Okay, maybe the weaboo comment was little unnecessary, but I still don't understand the widespread fascination of Japanese culture. I mean, early Japanese interest stemmed from them having an isolationist policy, but the interest never let up and now I have a bunch of people walking around my school knowing more about Japan than their family's traditions.
Yeah, you don't have to be a weaboo to like Japanese music, you're right, but I get annoyed by weaboos and I get overzealous, no harm meant.
I know what you mean. Most people obsessed with Japanese culture seem to get their source on Japan from Anime even though Japan is nothing like Anime. My step-father visit there a few times to build houses and he says that it's very crowded, very expensive, very stressful from working non-stop, century long mortgages and their women are seen more as sex objects than actual people. Despite for what fondness I have for Japan, I would never want to live there.
I happen to like Japan for their weapons like the katana and their loose censorship policies. Then again, I also like Mayans for their architecture, Scandinavians for their music and 20th century United States for culture and products. There's a lot of cultures to appreciate and there's no harm in liking other cultures for their customs and traditions.
But you are right on the obsession with Japan. It shouldn't have to be at the point of assimilating yourself into it and forgetting about your own identity in the process.
