Whats the point of submitting work?

So the start of every emo's life is the simple statement, Whats the point anymore? Well... I have come to ask myself that question. Not on life of course, but on submitting my hard work to Newgrounds. Even if people do like it... I dont feel anything. AT ALL. I just feel like I need more and want awards and trophies.. but sadly I am unable to exceed past the front page of NG. ***Most stuff that gets front page does not get a trophy but instead is recognized*** I try and try AND TRY until my heart bleeds with anger because I cant seem to get to the top. I just made a movie that I was almost positive would make it to the top.. but instead it was highly underrated with a score of 3.40. Sure, it got front paged and all... but that only got me 4000 measly views with some "Good jobs" in between. And then I was kicked in the teeth and sent packing after one day of fame. I dont get it... So I ask myself, what is the point of submitting work to NG anyways? Why do I bother spending hours of time on something that wont even matter in a week after its done? Now, there is one game I made called PANCAKES that got me some huge attention.. but that game suck suck SUCKS. It was intently overrated and got 78,000 views.

But... then it hit me. Why would my crappy game get so popular? THE IDEA. I realized I might have some potential with ideas, not art work. And so now I am looking to NG for a collaboration sort of thing. I already have an artist, and I can program. So if this project doesn't become successful.. I dont know WHAT to do. I cant even come near to those guys who get top of the week.. I dont have the power to do so. Thats why I am teaming up with people who each specialize in a unique capability that will combine to create one great game.

Oh I am just rambling on like some old fart now. So anyways, I am trying to say that the ONLY reason I submit work is for the feeling when my work is accepted. .. I dont get it. Well, at least people laugh at my stuff so I will keep on submiting work to "help" some people... and then have others give me a big kick in the face with a kind, "This is the worst movie/game I have ever seen. ZERO!" Thats what throws me off balance and makes me want to quit.

If people enjoy your work, which I'm sure they do, then that is the point. I am happy if my submission gets even one favourite, let alone my total of 41 favourites. That's what keeps me going at least

If your not content with the fact that people liked your flash due to the concept, rather than the artwork/animation, surely that should be enough. It proves that you're great at concepts, and should keep on going.

Maybe you just enjoy animation for the purpose of animating..I know I do. It's a way to vent your emotions, and creative abilities. The best I've ever achieved is a decent score, nowhere near front page or even Daily 10th.

Anyway, the moral of the lecture is: "Be happy with what you have. :)"

Who cares if people don't like your Flash? When I make anything, it's to entertain mainly me, and my friends. If they don't like it, WHO CARES

Besides, most losers on Newgrounds have lame tastes for crap and overrated-ness.

And you should be proud to get front page, even if for a day!

You should be proud of your Flash, and in my opinion, it's all that matters.

Well think of it this way, at least people see it on NG....you didn't just make it and watch it over and over again while you were alone in your room. Plus, now that it is on NG, it is technically published work. Congrats man! You've been published.

I mainly like submitting it because it gets views... I love to wake up every day knowing 80,000 people have seen just one game I made.. but yeah thanks a lot for these responses. More discussion I hope.

Obviously, whatever makes you happy, but I personally would rather have favourites or reviews than views. If only one person PMed me specially to tell me that he really enjoyed one of my flashes, I would feel so much more honoured than if the submission had 40,000 views and 40 reviews.

Generally, making Flash movies is a hobby lot's of people enjoy, and it's way better when you can see people are enjoying what you've made, even years after you submit, like my Flash tutorial I made in 2006.

Not true at all... I love making the work and submitting it. That is one point, but i dont know what the MAIN point is. I do enjoy praise.. a lot. But it never seems like enough. I dont know why either. It is probably just simple human nature.

You know how people sometimes say money isnt all its cracked up to be? Well.. Im not rich or anything, but I can see how you would never feel the empty void of your desire for cash. No matter how much you got.
