Is how it attempts to organize everything FOR me, as if I'm a 2year old who doesn't know any better.
For example, in this picture there are a ton of random folders that I never use, and only serve to make things more difficult.
For example, I don't use CONTACTS, I save everything in my cellphone.
I don't need APP DATA (or know what it is).
I don't need FAVORITES. Etc etc.
Now I understand that maybe these are things my computer needs to run, and I just dont use them (Oh, and I can't delete those folders, Ive tried).
What I want is something simple.
All I need is: Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Programs, Desktop, Computer.
Everything else doesn't need to be on that list, they just serve to squeeze all the other folders together into tiny icons.
In the second picture(which I will post after a few replies), is my ideal organization.
And yes, I am extremely visually based.

Well, just don't worry about the default folders that Vista sets up, I actually find them quite helpful. But try not to touch anything in the APPDATA folder, because several programs are dependent upon what is in there (such as FireFox, IE, and iTunes).
I'd also suggest that you turn of "show hidden files and folders", unless you like to hide your files. Basically, just leave everything where it is.

I hardly have a choice, but yeah, Ill make sure not to shoot myself in the foot. That hidden folders idea seems interesting. Ill look into it.

Vista was made to help you keep all files in a neat order. People can do it themselves, but some can't. There should be a feature to shut off this feature. Lol

you're right, they should have engineered the OS to comply with your personal needs and disregarded everyone else, especially the majority.
but if that's your only problem with vista then you're going pretty well.

Im just saying they should allow more freedom, much like XP did, and then offering what I think would look good =)
And yeah, I think everyone else is overdramatic about how "Vista sucks!"

Oh please, don't make me laugh.. Vista was build for the incompetent/old people who manage to completely destroy their PC by just creating a .txt or something. My family is just like that, they just CAN'T get to grips with how a computer works. Now Vista mostly helped them since it treats you like a fucking idiot!! >_< But at the same time, Vista doesn't let you do anything, probably annoying those users who don't know what the hell they are doing and making them do something stupid..
It's clear that Windows wants in on the whole Apple thing (meaning: look at these flashy colors, but if you actually want to do anything else than the basics you're screwed). That's my biggest problem with Vista, the whole interface is not intuitive, it restricts you in so many ways and there is no way to change some settings that it will be less shitty..
My housemate had a good idea for people when they were to install a new OS (say Windows 7 or something), Microsoft should incorporate some basic tests at the beginning of setting up a user account like, pose them with a question (e.g. your internet doesn't work, what do you do > multiple answer, and then increase the difficulty up to binary or some complicated messy shit) so the OS 'knows' what kind of user you are and to what extend it should be holding your hand every step of the way.

The only niggle (just a niggle) I have with vista is that it takes up so much RAM just to run it. Sure is purty though.

App Data was called Application Data in XP (and every other windows versions). It was a hidden folder. Why the idiotic morons at Microsoft would suddenly make it not is beyond any sane person.

That's actually a pretty good idea. Maybe there could be an industry standard test that could be used for all different kinds of software, so that it can adjust perfectly to the user.
It's kind of like the auto leveling system that was put into the game, Spyro: Year of the Dragon. If you sucked at it, it would lower the difficulty to easy. But if you were doing pretty good, it would crank up the difficulty to hard.

Uh... notice that the Appdata folder is kind of faded out in the picture. That means it's hidden, so Vista hasn't done anything to it. Don't go bashing on Vista without anything real.
Come, follow me into the deep...

Personally, I don't really have too much of a problem with vista. The biggest thing I don't like about it is the fact that its a fucking RAM hog! Other then that, vista is fine with me. The fact it asks for permission like 5 different times in order to do any major changing in your system gets kind of old, but if it bothers you that much, there is a way to turn that off. I don't exactly remember right off hand, but I do remember running across a way to turn that off. With that said, it is handy to have it ask permission for everything for those people who don't really know what the hell they are doing, so it kind of helps protect pc's from computer illiterate people. I have gotten so use to messing with vista, when I go to a computer that has XP, I somewhat feel lost in somethings because I'm so used to the set up of the way things look in vista. If you look at all the people who bash vista, and continue to go on and on about how vista is so damn bad, its the ones who haven't really used vista but like once or twice, which isn't really enough to get a good feel of vista. Besides, when you look back at XP, when it first came out, it wasn't that great because they still had some bugs to work out. It took a couple of years to actually become good. What I don't get though, is that with vista, recommended ram is 2 gigs, and minimum is 1 gig, but yet, they put vista on a computer that only has 512mb of ram, and not just that, but with a shitty single processor. Come on, at least be nice and let the computer support a dual core at least. Its still going to run shitty because of the 512mb of ram, but they could at least be that nice. Why do that? I figure its to get people either spend more money on a better computer, or spend money on upgrading thier computer, but when you have ppl that don't know anything about computers, they arent going to know what to look for, or why their computer is running like shit. Sorry I made this so long!
Enjoy this life of wonder and imagination

You need two desktops? What are you planning on doing?
And you really don't need a "pictures" folder... you could make your own in your "documents" folder.

Lol typo.
And I do need two folders for PICTURES and DOCUMENTS. Primarily pictures for my new camera, and documents for school work.
And Yiff, It is hard. It wont allow me to delete contacts, it said there was an error. And I can DELETE "Network". I just never have the need to say "Oh, crap. I need to get to my network. Where do i go? OH THANK GOD ITS RIGHT THERE". I just want to hide all folders except the basic ones i need.
