I recall hearing that George W. Bush held a press conference and began gloating about how "his men" had captured Saddam. But wait, is this the same person who said the day before NOT to gloat? I think Bush is a hypocrite on top of everything else...

WHERE ARE THE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION???
And already the story is changing. Upon his capture, Alleged Saddam (by the way, if they captured a lookalike, would the US tell anybody?) said he wanted to negotiate. Later on, Rumsfeld claimed AS was not co-operating...even if he grassed up a few extra Generals and other regeime members.
Hmm. The US making up the story as it suits them, as it goes along? Not seen that recently...

how would the u.s. have a previous DNA sample to match up with the one of this supposed saddam.and as far as all this scarring? don't you thik the iraqis are smart enough to take care of all that
it's like that joke, saddams hideout get's hit with a bomb and his arm gets blown off. one of the iraqi soldiers asks "is saddam dead?" "no" replies his comander "he's recovering nicely and is in good spirits. his look alikes are another story."
eh, even if it wasn't him, do you honestly think bush would come foreward and say "oops, my B, we got the wrong guy." ?

Ah, I believe it's him. He cleans up nicely, too. Either way, saying "I'm the President of Iraq, and I'm willing to negotiate." and then saying "How can I go to the bathroom when my people are in bondage." isn't really expressing Saddam's great mental competency at the moment of capture. Most of the cooperation came from his briefcase of tricks.

Considering the ridiculousness of the news coverage (Basra captured eight times, Umm Quasr five), why am I expecting joy when they capture Saddam next week?
Anyway, it isn't headline news over here anymore ALREADY - the conviction of Ian Huntley for the murders of Holly & Jessica has taken precident. Now, how long before the news works out that he's a child murderer and not a paedophile? Very different crimes and circumstances - although he's been guilty since the trial started, so why is it news when the jury finally agrees?

The news dried up pretty quickly around here when no new developments were rocketing out of Baghdad. It's back to how a pharmacist filled prescriptions well drunk and is now suspended without pay. w00t.

I noticed how the news ratings jumped up when the news came in that Saddam was captured, so I got a good idea: Extreme Dictator Hunting. We release several third-world leaders into the wilderness and then send in one group of soldiers (and George W. with a butterfly net) after them. The team with the most captures wins.

Well a day after vowing to stay out of the debate over Saddam Hussein's punishment, George W. Bush reversed course and said he believes the former Iraqi dictator should face the death panalty.

Umm first of all, why would a look laike be hiding in hole. THe only "look alike" who may want to hide in a hole with a gun and 750.000$ is... Saddam Hussein himself. And yeah Memizis... release him??? Why exactly would that be "fair", and why exactly would we want to do that?

Wow, you must be the slowest person in North America. Do you pick up on any form of indirect speech (or text in this case) at all?

I don’ t think Bush was gloating more so than he was stating a fact.

I've noticed just how quickly the whole "Saddam" capturing business has been deemed non-newsworthy. Not just the Huntly thing (as well as the Rio Ferdinand being 'roided thing), but looking at the front page of every Media student's favourite rag/cornerstone of any coursework on Moral Panics, The Daily Mail. So Monday was all the "We got him!!!" headlines, and Tuesday?
£65,000. That's what an asylum seeker's family get in handouts in one year.
Wednesday?
Deja View. Most of the TV on Christmas Day is repeats.
Throw in coverage of the whole Diana trial in Scotland - Mo Fayed can't accept his son was maybe a dumbass for not wearing a seatbelt in a speeding car with a drunk driver going through a Paris underpass and there must be something suspicious - and you have to wonder just how pathetic some journalism is. Unless, of courser, they already know it's a double, so couldn't be bothered going along with it, while every other paper does. Way to get your readership up!!!
