I would have immediately reccommended you for an expelling. I think your teacher was overly lenient, to be honest. And I assume you're a trouble-maker at school, because no-one who isn't would say that. Racism has no place in society and your teacher was very right to punish your ass.

Jokes about the holocaust may be funny to you and your friends, but you've got to respect your teacher in school. If I was your teacher, I would have most certainly attacked you violently, and damn the consequences.

I think a detention would have cleared things up. But then again, I dont know how strict your school is. You had to know that there would be consequences for your actions. Teachers get offended by the slightest thing. Some adults have no sense of humor and they have to go apeshit when you do something that's completely harmless. Saying Jesus Christ in Spanish got me 15 minutes detention, but I shouldn't have gotten punished for a damn interjection.

You're right most teachers have no sense of humor. But one time I said crap in front of a teacher when I screwed up and he didn't even say anything... he was just like, "you okay, man?" But I had this other teacher who got all offended when I called one of her little students a 'mini-Tyler' just cuz he looked like a friend. That's just messed up.

Anyway the moral is.... you have to choose your teachers wisely... don't crack off smart-ass comments in front of the wrong one...
