3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsThe other day I bought a used game from EB games. There was no available case at the store when I bought the game, so the clerk just gave me a blank case to put the disk in (the game was Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, BTW).
Today at about 3:00 I thought it would be a nice idea to just look up, and print the game's cover so I could have some way of identifying the case. I went on to many sites such as cdcovers.cc, but I eventually stumbled on to some sketchy CD/DVD cover websites, thanks to Google.
When I went to one site, I noticed it wasn't as legit looking as some of the earlier sites in which I visited. Shockingly the site (which was soon to fuck me over) had the game cover I was looking for. I took one look at the image, and my computer suddenly froze.
I then noticed my computer was saving some mysterious PDF file. I tried hitting Ctrl Alt Delete, and other emergency measures but my computer just stayed frozen.
The split second my computer unfroze, a bombardment of pop-ups from Internet Explorer covered my screen (I use FireFox). I decided to restart my computer. When my computer re-booted, another bombardment of popups swarmed my screen...
I decided to restart in Safe Mode, and use my anti spyware/ malware program. Tons of random shit appeared on the list of detected wares. I did the ware sweep about twice, and the program kept finding stuff.
I restarted my computer in normal mode, and ran some antivirus scans (thankfully finding nothing). My computer is working alright again, but I still have some occasional (blank) popups....
I'm going to check out the mysterious PDF file...
TLDR; My computer is acting gay.

Yeh' gotta be careful of those shifty looking pedofi---PDF files.
You really have to be careful where you go and download. I only look for legit sites. If your computer still acts dumb, I recommend looking for someone to clean it up for you. I did that when I had a bad virus (I mean viruses) and yeah....
I bet you can't beat my record: 5,853 viruses in one day, I had to get my system rebooted like it just came off the store shelf lol

I always wondered why Adobe called their files pedofiles. And you should delete IE.
I'm keeping mine because I still have IE6, looking forward IE8 so that I can be 2 versions late.
My signature was old so I changed it.

You can't delete Internet Explorer with out crashing Windows. The system is basically dependent on it.
Well, what's in the PDF file? Are you going to tell us?

A PDF file? Did it say file.pdf.vbs or something, or just file.pdf?? If there's a real malicious PDF file, that's suckage!!
If I offer to help you in a post, PM me to get it. I often forget to revisit threads.

You could have saved yourself all this trouble by taking a sharpie and writing "Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel" on the cover.

I delete mine as soon as I download Firefox! It is definetly NOT dependent on IE!

Serves you right for buying such a shitty game. "BETTER THAN SEX" my ass.

Why did you go there?

That seems really smart, considering the site that "fucked [you] over" downloaded it to your computer without your ordering it to do so.
TLDR; My computer is acting gay because I decided to go to a site that looked untrustworthy and start clicking links.

Professional Tip: Never open files that have been known / associated with screwing you over in the past. Ever. Even if you think they're safe now. Just don't do it.
As for the virus thing, I like how you handled the situation.
It surely beat the normal "Agh, my computer be broked [insert crying, moaning, complaining, taking to Best Buy and expecting them to fix your mess]".
In addition, how hard could it be to find a cover case o.O?

why didnt you just use google image or wikipedia?
your as ugly on the inside as you are on the outside

Which AV/Malware/Spyware/etc... did you use?
Here's a program that will save your life:
Spybot: Search & Destroy
I consider this program a lifesaver. If you play popular video games on your PC, some hackers will try to gain access to your PC through spyware/malware and embed software to discover your password. Spybot stops that.

Here is my list of AV/Spyware/Malware/Cookies/etc...:
Ad-Aware
Ad-Watch
avast! Anti-Virus
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
CCleaner
SUPERAntiSpyware
McAfee
AVG Free-Edition
ZoneAlarm
Spybot - Search and Destroy
Avira
All of those are free and 100% safe! If you saw, I didn't put do Norton. It slows my computer down too much. Check them out if you like.
Sorry. I meant to put Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware/Anti-Malware/Coo kies Deletion/etc..
When I formatted my computer the time before the last most recent one, I didn't put anti-virus or spyware on my computer for I thought I browsed the internet safely and I never downloaded any crap that would compromise me.
Then my computer started running real slow, and performing like shit, so I reformatted. But the damage had already done, for 24 hours, I had my WoW account hacked.
Not having anti-virus or anti-virus is just like bending over, dropping trouser, and spreading your asscheeks while screaming "come and get it boys!"
Metaphorically, anyways.
Do you know the website link?
you know so we dont fuck ourselves over.
Please disregard all of my pre-2013 posts. I was young and borderline retarded.
if you have more than 1 anti-viruse(s), 2 anti-spyware(s), 1 firewall(s) then they will fight for resources and pretty much render each other useless
I don't have all of those on my computer currently, but I have used it at one time or another.
Ok, guys it's fixed. I just used 3 (yes 3) ware purging programs, and I found the main ware, so its all good.

Instead of searching with google, use Yahoo, much safer search.
Also if a site is likely to give pop-ups,malware,spyware, or adware then it makrs the website so you don't click it.

The system is dependent on explorer.exe not iexplorer.exe
There's a difference. Explorer is what lets you look at files and shit.
