A Christmas-y Videogame Thread!

HO HO HO! MERRY CHRISTMAS, FELLOW NEWGROUNDS USERS!

I feel that since it is the season and all, we should start giving more. Yesterday, someone on another video game board (you can probably guess which one) bought me S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl. The guy didn't even know me and he bought it for me. I was so happy and ecstatic. Now, I have his Steam name and everything, but I don't know how to make it up to him. BUT I WILL TRY TO SPREAD THE SAME JOY HE GAVE ME!

SO, I have decided to post all my freeware games, free PC games, and maybe some misc. stuff. Note, these games are some of my favorite freeware games and I think you guys will love them too. I'd like to do this before Christmas because we'll all be getting new video games (this IS the video game board after all), and I thought you'd like some games to play before you open your new ones. Feel free to contribute and make everyone else's holiday a very special one. And of course, have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It is a very fun game with high replay value. The graphics and visuals are great for a freeeware game, and it also has great music to boot. There are easy, medium, and hard modes to ensure a tougher time for more skilled players. If oyu like asteroids and Geometry Wars, I hope you'll like this!

Also, I changed the controls so mouse aims my shots and wasd is my movement. You can do that under control options.

For this gem, I HIGHLY recommend you download it and try it out for yourself. I do not feel as if the gameplay and videos really bring it justice. I have a 1680 x 1050 Samsung monitor and it is AMAZING.

How to play "Drive a ship forward and destroy enemies. When time runs out, game is over."
It is great fun, it has high replay value, and it looks amazing in my opinion.

Not only is it free, but it is challenging! It may be tough at first, but I think once you get the hang of it, you'll love it. I play with my tablet, but some of the best players use their mouse! It's amazing!

The great thing about osu! is that user submitted maps are always updated, allowing infinite replay value. Also, there is online ranking, different difficulties for maps, and a great community. Some of the team may even be making a port to the DS and iTouch (Don't ask them about it though, enough people do as it is).

About "The Underside"

Now, before you say it is a Cave Story ripoff, don't say it's a bad game. Yes, it was obviously influenced from Cave Story, but the game is amazing. And I love Cave Story to death. I love the plot so far and there are a far greater range of characters in this game. HOWEVER, THE GAME IS ONLY AT A PREVIEW STAGE. There is no finished file. The demo may be short, but I think once/if the finished games is released, it will be amazing. THe creator has also made great progress by looking at his recent gameplay videos too.

I recommend Yume Nikki to anyone that wants a decent mindfuck game. It gets better if you play it in the dark with headphones.

I already have a few of the games OP posted (except osu!), but it will certainly be good to anyone that haven't played the games yet. I'll post a few more games later.

"Love is a classically styled platformer of tiny proportions." You begin with 100 lives and you try to see how far you can make it. There are 20 levels with 4 secret ones. The music is amazing and the enviromnment around you can influence the music. The screen is small, but you can increase it. I personally like the small screen.

Also, you used to have pay for it, but now it's free. Send the guy a thank you if you really like it.

Gametap has free games and games you can pay for. And there a lot of free good games to recommend downloading this. The one's I'd personally recommend downloading are Deus Ex: GOTY Edition, Fallout (the original), and Sam and Max: Abe Lincoln Must Die! ALL FREE! I also believe Psychonauts is free as well. Now, these are old games and you may have already played them. However, I doubt all of you guys played the original Fallout so now's your chance!

Note: Crazy Taxi isn't free, it's just from a screenshot of Gametap I found.

AEGIS WING- Classic side-scrolling space shooting game.
Yaris- Driving / shooting game. Not as fun as the others, but it is free.
Totem Ball- I have no idea about this game, I have never played it. BUT IT IS FREE.
Dash of Destruction- Play as a T-Rex eating a Doritos truck or the truck itself! It is a very fun game and great among friends. It's so wacky, but it's so much fun at the same time.

Sadly, I think a lot of guys probably have these games already downloaded. :'(
However, someone out there probably doesn't! :D

Seriously? That's great, and I suggest any fan of the FPS genre to download it (just ignore the other games developed by Ion Strom, with the exception of Thief).

An Untitled Story is a simple platformer (I'm not even joking, a seven-year-old could probably beat it) that is highly similar to Metroid and Castlevania, hence the term 'Metroidvania.' This is highly suggested to fans of either series, or mertroidvanias in general.

Aegis Wing is only available to people in the USA and is free to them.
Dash of Destruction is free to everyone and it came out earlier this week.
Yaris I think is only available to people in USA. Definately not for people of UK, can't find it myelf.

Thanks for the heads up on Dash of Destruction, had no idea it was free. It sure was short though, got 200/200 on it already and will probably never want to touch it again though. Was fun for the 10 minutes it lasted though. Merry Christmas :]

Knytt is a basic platformer with incredibly cute graphics and characters.

You play as a little alien guy who's ship has broken up into several pieces. You must explore the land to retrieve the pieces, rebuild your ship and escape! :D

Controls are nice n' light. The character handles like a feather and is capable of sliding down walls, wall jumps and what not.
