'No fun allowed' 2008-12-16 23:32:09

The way mods use this phrase at certain times, there must be different definitions of 'fun' every time I see something or someone being told off with this.

What is 'fun' defined by a mod/admin?
Is it like one of those parental rules parents are allowed to break? A lot?
Is it me or does 'fun' happen to (mostly) slide by when performed in large groups (unless it's mass trolling/sarcasm)?

I'm looking at threads like the 'wildfire' thread on this one...

I'm rather curious to know...

It's an arbitrary decision by an individual granted the authority to make the decision. The bottom line is that they have the authority to make the decision, not you or I.

There need be no reason, only action.

There is actually a 10,000 page book that is passed down through the generations of mods which contains every possible lockable thread ever. It also lays out which lock message to use in every situation imaginable. "No Fun Allowed" is a message applied to only a few specific threads, as mandated by the guidebook.

So it's all very formal and official, you see. The mods are just going by the book.
