I played them all in their prime and I have to say the original Playstation is the best.

In conclusion I don't like retro that much.
Wow, it sounds like you've never even played a SNES in your life.
Anywho, The Super Nintendo is an awesome console, it had some of the best platformers and RPGs of it's time.

SNES. This isn't really much of a debate, the NES had so many problems, a good system, but SNES was far superior. Since people are kind of disregarding what this forum is about, it's NES or SNES, not fuckin SEGA... But I did love my SEGA. I'm going to go play Sonic. (and if we're really going to break it down PS1 trumphs ALL these systems BIATCH!) PEACE.

I can't really decided. I owned and NES and a Genesis but never an SNES. My cousin had one so I played played his every weekend. I couldn't tell you because I love all three.
Meh... the SNES had better games and more popular. The NES also had great games but it had more periferics and games. So choose!
If at first you don't succeed, then you suck.

absolutely:)
That's a tough one because both systems were so great. Although SNES had superior hardware just because it was newer, NES had many classics. However, classic series like Mario, Castlevania, Zelda, Metroid, Mega Man, etc. were all great on NES, they became even better on the SNES with better graphics, sound, gameplay, features, and just better overall. Even though the SNES did that for all the NES games, they all started on the NES making them non-existant on the SNES if they never were made on the NES. You can just argue all day about that. But my favorite out of the 2 would have to be.....
SNES just because it was everything about NES just with enhancements. Also, it has better replay value and is more fun to play because most games have a save feature or password feature (I know NES had those too, but they weren't as common as they were in SNES games and the saves in NES weren't as reliable as SNES ones). Overall both systems are great, but SNES is IMO better and more fun to play.
Super Metroid.
I don't think I need to say much more.
Oh and Earthbound is 10X better then Mother/Earthbound Zero.
The only real thing I prefer about the NES are the Mega Man games. Mega Man X was pretty good but I'd choose Mega Man 2 over X anyday.
I grew up in the arcades and on the Sega Genesis, so for me, NES vs. SNES comes down to games rather than nostalgia.
MARIO:
Super Mario Bros. 3 vs. Super Mario World. A lot of people will go with NES here, but they're full of shit. Super Mario World is superior in every measurable way, except the lack of Hammer Bros. suits. SNES wins.
ZELDA:
The Legend of Zelda vs. A Link to the Past. Judging by the standards of the time, it was the original that was the bigger shock to the gaming world. However, A Link to the Past was everything the first one was, and more. Though, if you're looking for Zelda, just pick up a Gamecube: there's a whole shitload of collection discs, ports, and peripheral devices like the Game Boy Player that will allow you to play every game in the series up until Twilight Princess. Draw, just because the wise choice is a third option.
METROID:
Metroid vs. Super Metroid. Look, I love the original, but the SNES installment is, like in the Zelda case, "everything the first one was, and more". And since Super Metroid didn't get a GBA port, I'm giving round three to the SNES.

THIRD PARTIES:
The NES couldn't handle the kind of stuff they were making by SNES-time, and back then it wasn't just improved graphics that set the generations apart. Entire genres existed that the NES just couldn't play due to outdated hardware. Can you think of a good fighter on the NES? No! The Game Boy ports of SNES-era fighters tended to be, at best, far inferior to their SNES and Genesis versions. Just like the SNES couldn't handle 3D fighters or first-person shooters well, which became possible in the N64/Playstation generation.
FINISH HIM
SNES inserts its killer app, the game that won it the 16-bit wars. Donkey Kong Country. The NES explodes from the awesome.
SNES WINS. FATALITY.

SNES. It was just a huge change in gaming from what the NES could only wish to do.

I give my love to the NES, cause it's just such a classic. It didn't have too many really good games, but I played my entire 4th and 5th years of my life killing ducks and beating Mario Bros.
Hmm I'd say NES because it has Super Mario Bros. 3 and that's my favorite Mario.

The general consensus on what is the best lies entirely on sole opinion.
Unlike surefire methods to determine, like by viewing overall sales in it's generation, how powerful the console is, what new things did the console bring that became mainstream in later generations (I.e. The Playstations use of CDs/disc, the Dreamcast's use of online play/browsers, the Atari's use of cartridges, etc.), and how well it's exclusive titles are received, best consoles are determine by opinion.
That said, why are you taking other people's opinion as any more fact that yours?
The best console is whatever you believe it is.

Backseat modding is also not allowed, and this topic isn't just a this or that thread, people are actually making this a worthy discussion if you hadn't noticed.
As for me I would have to go for SNES, I never had a NES until later on so I never fully appreciated the console whereas I did for SNES, plus I loved Mario Kart and SMW3 for it, so my vote definitely has to go for that console.

I loved my PS1. I used to play on it until it would overheat from too much Gran Turismo 2 (Gran Turismo 2 was my absolute favourite game on there) and then I'd probably cry that it wouldn't work (I was about 6). Then... next day it works again and it'd be another five hours on it.
I still play on it, so that shows my love for it.
Holy cow, I haven't posted here yet? Shocking...
SNES. While the NES was great, the SNES gave us the pinnacle of 2D gaming with tons of greats like Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, Star Fox, etc. While the NES games were cool and all, they don't age as well as the SNES games do.
This round's winner? SNES.
