Who has never read any of the Harry potter books?

I just never had any interest in the whole wizard thing, but since i've began reading much more often, i've thought about giving the books a chance. Also, let it be known that i've seen the first three movies and already know a lot about the ending of the last book.

I read the first and second ones when I was about six, though I've never read any of the later books at all. My older brother used to read them a lot, and once he forced me to read one to him, which was pretty funny.

I read a couple a long time ago. I was young, and stupid.. etc. I think you might be the only one though.

Why not read something with a point to it other than "friendship conquers all"?

How about...

As I Lay Dying
Crime and Punishment
1984 (or Animal Farm I guess)
A Clockwork Orange

That should tie you up for a while.

The Harry Potter books are the only fiction books I ever completed (read all of them except half-blood prince) that weren't compulsory (like as part of a school project or homework...). I can't stand fiction, it feels like a waste of effort; reading isn't exactly fun for me, I like the information that is conveyed by the text, but for fiction, you know it's all made up, so you're not pulling any useful information.

i read the what happens in them through wikipedia. it is as accrate as possible, but not entirely, cuz it only tells u what u would read the book for in the first place. it does leave some stuff out, but not as important stuff to the plot. so i have read the whole series pretty much, but i so cheated. :p

im right behind u through state of mind. and i can take ur food.

I've read them all a few times each.
People watch the movies, and judge the books on the movies, which is completely stupid.
the movies sucked massive dick in comparison to the books.

The seventh and Eighth movie will probably manage to outdo the book though.

Hell no. It's a children's book, and it sucks at that. Worst of all, you'll be associated with one of those rabid fanboys the second you pick it up.

Well they are the most popular book series ever, but it doesn't mean you HAVE to read them. If the storyline doesn't appeal to you much then just don't worry about not reading them. Not everyone has after all.

I think that after the first few books in the series the overall tone becomes less childish, and I think they're an entertaining read, despite the fact that they're not as spectacularly written as their popularity will have you believe. Take away the hype and you have a good book series, you'd be foolish to read the books expecting the greatest pieces of literature ever written.

I remember when I tried reading Lord of the Rings quite a while back, quite the failure on my behalf. Less than a dozen pages in, BAM! Haven't picked it up again in years. I guess it's because of the franchise. I haven't seen the movies in a long time, so maybe it's about time I give the trilogy another shot, now that the movies are kind of hazy in my mind.

I read them and it was bad. Reading it would cause a drop in IQ points.

I still have to read them, but I still got a list of books I need to read, for instance "hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy", HP Lovecraft, "Untill I find you",...
Still too long a list and I don't know which to start with.

Hey, you're preaching to the chous here. I'm a Potter nut. Just doesn't mean everyone has to love it.

Lol, I actually managed to read The Hobbit. Seriously, if you're still interested in reading the LotR series, start with that, I managed it. Still need to (like you) be able to able the other books though. They are a challenge.

Yeah. After all, it's the first logical step in the series...
I should probably get myself a copy of the books, before I was just reading my parent's copies. I find that if I own it outright, I'd be more inclined to getting around to reading it.

But like RubberTrucky, I've got my fair share of books waiting to be read, in particular, the second and third books in a thick Sci-Fi trilogy. The first book took me over a year to get through, because of its size, and my habit to put it down and not read again for weeks or months. I've also got a few Terry Pratchett novels that I'd like to get into, as well as one book by Stephen King. I love reading, but I hate it how I generally take so long to get through a large book.

I just recently realised that I've read like 20 of his books over the last year, some more than once (mostly re-reading in new context, becuase I took the random order approach).

Rowling's work is okay (certainly compared to what's the new big thing, Twi-shite), but she's seriously stealing Pterry's thunder.

I don't take revenue from my profile.

Me and you are quite similiar in ways. I bought the first couple of Terry Pratchett books, and I've yet to get past the first page. And with Stephen King, well I bought a whole bookfull of his books secondhand from ebayfor not much, for me and my dad to read. Only ready IT so far. I do enjoy reading, but I just don't do it enough.
