Sure there isn't a lot of sophistication behind the verbiage, but you have to admit the guy knew how to find the rythm in the word. I'm not much for wrap, but even reading that I could see how you were supposed to read it, I could feel where the words rolled into each other and had emphasis. He may not have had the vocab, but he had a lot of the technique behind poetry down. Don't be so critical. Besides, it's the message that's important in that song to its listeners, not the lyrics.
Remember Hey Delilah? It wasn't that original or inspiring, but it worked cause people got it and connected with it.
