Messy? FL works just fine if you know how to use it. As for the guitar, all (most) guitars that are synthesized sound like crap, that has nothing to do with FL itself.
If FL is not for you, try out Reason, or Cubase

How can you never have learned to play a guitar and then claim one is shit?!?! >;D
Give it time dude, it takes a while and hard work to get good at something. Just because your learning music on a computer doesnt mean you wont have to practise and get good at it. I use FL and would definitley reccomend it, and if you keep switching programs, you will never learn anything haha.
When you say messy, I think it's because you are not fammiliar with all the features. Take a couple tutorials and get to grips with the basics.
Honestly dude, you should stick with FL, especially if you payed for it
...but I doubt you did

I agree with everyone else, stick with Fruity Loops. I made that wrong choice and went for Magix Music Maker before FL. It was a waste of $60.

Try out Reason 4 if you have the keyboard for it,
It is utterly and simply the most amazing "composer's sketchpad" you will ever own,
There's a free trial out there,
Link'd : http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/
Audio/Audio-Editors-Recorders/Reason.sht ml
I wouldn't go for Cubase though, unless your planning on buying a buttload of Vstis; Reason comes with 3 synthesizers, 2 samplers and TONS of factory patches.
The possibilities are limitless lol

Not exactly true. The guitar samples in Reason are good when properly complimented. Yeah they're not as good as homemade guitar samples but in terms of only software it equals smiley face.
Different programs are meant for different things so it depends on what you want to do.
If I'm not mistaken, FL is best used with plugins and other programs, while Reason is far superior as a independent program. Basically if you're set on getting to know one and only one program check out Reason.

The only thing that I'd warn with Reason is that you can't recored audio (please correct me if I'm wrong). As you said you don't play any instruments, that shouldn't be a problem. But if you do plan on migrating that way in the future, keep this in mind.
Either way, if you learn Reason, you can eventually move on to another DAW. Reason can be Rewired into programs like FL and Logic (and I'm assuming Cubase and the others). In this sense, you get the versatility of Reason and its instruments and the Sequencing capabilities of another program. This is a pretty good, albeit expensive, path to take. But if you're deciding to embark on the music producing path, you're going to have to be willing to drop some dough into it.
Anyhow, do your research and make your own choice. You're going to want to stick with the program that best fits you. Think about what kind of workflow and interface you want and choose accordingly. If price is an issue, you're going to want to look at FL because that's the lowest. However, make sure you get the version with the piano roll.
Remember, there's no right program. Most of the programs essentially do the same thing with different pros and cons. Some have core benefits for certain types of music but with the amount of third party plugins, VSTs and virtual instruments, almost any program can work for you. Just make sure you put the time and effort in to learn it.
Good luck.

You can't MAKE MUSIC on turntables. You can PLAY music on turntables, and MIX on turntables, but not CREATE (unless you're one of those mad skilled hiphop DJs).

That's not true. You can learn more if you use more than just a single program IMO.
I also recommend it though, many large acts you've probably heard of use it. So there is clearly nothing wrong with it. And if it's your first program, you can't compare it to something "un-messy".
Check out Cubase, or maybe Reason.

Yes, definitley. I agree with ya. I was saying if you like, use one program for a month, and then get bored of it, and switch to another...That's what would kill the learning. But if you stick at it for multiple programs, then thats all good!

The song starts off with the basic slayer with no mixer presets after 1:51 where I do my part of the track I used mastering in fl to its finest to make the slayer sound awesome.
These Days:
When I work in fl studio and want guitar. I record my bass or my friends electric through ableton live first then transfer in as an audio clip to fl studio.

Perfect Setup Ever:
1. Fl Studio Producer XXL
2. Reason 4
3. Other various effects and vsts
All exporting using rewire, into Pro tools. All 3 in one :D
Anyways, I went from loops(Acid 6) to midis(reason 3) and now im making my own stuff in FL Studio.
Going from one to another lets you pick up a lot of techniques and experience. For example, i jumped into FL Studio 3 days ago, and I know the program to were i can make a pretty decent trance song. I guess what im saying is that experience is most important in this equation.
I hope i helped! :D

comon nubs. CUBASE IS TEH SHIT
sure it takes a while to learn but its about equal to reasons compositional abilities AND YOU CAN USE VST'S!!
fl studio, while easy to learn. well imagine this.x
say "alrighty I've made a full song in fl, but I've decided I want to cut out a section and rearrange the track"
you are FUCKED, its going to take forever, literally.
in cubase, though, you can completely rearange a track infinitely faster. this is why I use cubase

Exact reason i switched from reason to fl.

I did that on my latest song countless times in FL Studio, any good suite should let you do that.

One piano roll (pretty much a midi) + one sequencer = not very time consuming. FL Studio ftw.
I really need to get my hands on cubase O.o

Why not be like us REAL composers and do it right the FIRST time!? Then you wouldnt have to go back and fix it >;D
...Kidding man. I see whatcha mean with FL, it takes AGES to change stuff halfway through.

Never had experience with artificial music, but with the keyboard thing, FL, aren't you able to hotkey chords and et cetera to keyboard buttons, and play live?
Also, I've been reading on the internet that there might be GarageBand for PC. If so, it's going to be your best friend.

like many ppl are saying here:
fl studio is not the program you use when you are going profesional.
its a good program to learn how to construct a song in.
fl studio has its limitations. but all programs do.
most artists in the buisness use ableton or reason. ableton is more for live performances and reason is very powerful without taking up all the cpu.
eventually you do rewire and use a bunch of programs since they all have their benefits and faults.
