Interpret it how you want to, the story should still be there. It originated in religion, but whether or not you see it religiously, it still deserves to be there.

Also, why does no one bother with this any other time of the year? My music teacher had us singing goddamn hymns, but because it was February, and not December. No one did a thing. The other teachers said I was exaggerating. Even when the teacher brought in a Hymn book. -_-

"Freedom of religion" means you can worship however you want or not at all. That's the whole point of it.

The country is Christian. The founding fathers were not deist, deism did not come about until about 50 years after the constitution was written. The only reason that no official state religion was named is because the protestant refugees were afraid that the Catholic Church (which was the prevalent one in Europe then) would take over and make the U.S. into another old-world monarchy.
