I haven't tried animation yet, then again 3D isn't really my forte or what I'm really pursuing.
If you can, get your hands on an awesome program called UVlayout, which will smoothen your workflow substantially.

Basic colour selection finished, already filling in details here and there.
Only the 2048x2048 diffuse, specular is going to add that much since the red wood will have a shiny, laquer finish.

Make that texture artist ;), these aren't my models. I do know 3DsMax, but only the basics.
You could argue most of the look is defined by the texture, though.

That's the UE3 engine at work, in the game they actually pulsate a bit for added realism.
It's basically four things: Mesh, DIffuse texture, Self-Illumination map and Post-Processing (bloom, color correction, Depth of Field).
You import the mesh into the Unreal editor, apply the diffuse and self-illum to it, animate the self-illum, place it in the level, and add a post-processing 'block' over it.
It's my first time using this effect and it's actually fairly easy. UnrealEd is very user-friendly and I would recommend you to get your hands on the free Unreal Development Kit, which allows you to create your own games using Unreal Engine 3 for free
Note: we're 'only' using the Level Editor that comes with Unreal Tournament 3, but for next semester we'll be whoring the UDK :D

It's a walk way.
You walk over it, it gets you to the other side. I believe it's finished, let's see what the others have to say.
2048 texture by me, a whole lot quicker than the others. Had to cap some additional faces in there and fiddle with the UV, since it was mirrored but not correctly so it showed a very nice seam in the middle.
Now I have to handle a solar mirror aaaannndd... update the fountain/monument from last page.
It's fun, but am I glad I can walk away from the computer every now and then.

Looks like a hybrid between a solar panel and a satellite dish.
More of a solar mirror, but we take some liberties ;)

Experimenting with Post Processing in our level, meaning special effects such as Bloom, Depth of Field, Motion Blur and Colour Correction.
While not my intention I came across a very striking combination when putting one too many zeroes after the dot.
This won't be used in this semester's project, but perhaps in the next we can find some use for this.

Three has a natural look to it, leaning towards red hues.

We've gotten post-processing down... for now, there are still some tweaks to be made.
I'll be producing nothing but decals (small projected images reserved for details) from now on, so that includes nice pamphlets, posters and less interesting but ultimately rewarding stuff like road stripes, chewing gum on sidewalks (that's actually already in) and other fine details.
Here's an example, now I realise it's small, but those are the size constraints I have to work with for certain decals, so it's an exercise in getting the highest detail in the smallest amount of space while looking realistically for players.
Also, this is the jpeg version, the white areas are actually transparent.
