What I came up with is this: You make your movie, but on a layer above everything else, you put another layer which covers every single frame of your movie. In this frame, you put a screen which blocks your movie and put on the text: "FUCK YOUTUBE!", and turn it into a movieclip. Then you use actionscript to make that MC invisible so anyone can view your movie normally.
Now, if someone were to rip your movie and turn it into a file that can be put on YouTube, this top layer would be visible because actionscript doesn't work in those files.
Would this work? I mean, I think it will but I have no idea if it actually will. It should, since without the .fla, there is no way to remove that top layer, right?
i dont think itd be worth the effort. I think as long as you credit yourself or put something like this movie lives in newgrounds.com or whatever that should be sufficient. I think the trend of the internet right now revolves around sharing and sites like youtube/google video/etc. Wether you like it or not people will share your movie. I dont necessarily see that as a bad thing, thats how you grow in exposure and recognizeability. In fact I'd actually recommend that you make your own youtube page and make a habit of posting your stuff on youtube on your own sort of as a deterent to the leechers and to satisfy the mainstream publics craving for your stuff.. then you atleast become the reliable source for future fans and on each movie description on youtube you can be like 'you can find the high res version here - link to your movie. '
I think the more negatively you treat the situation the more rebelious people become in trying to get around you. You should just be smart and concious of the trends and capabilities of the internet in this day and age and find a way to make them work for you.

Programs like SnagIt allow you to record things directly from your screen. You don't need a .swf file to turn a Flash movie into something you could upload to YouTube.

Yeah, you're right Luis. I was just wondering if it would work though.
Nice signature by the way :P

If you're wondering about the technical side of it, be sure that you have no idea what you're on about. ;p
Maybe try converting a Flash movie to video yourself before thinking about how to avoid it.

I really wish that there was a way to report people on youtube for stealing your stuff even if it doesn't have a copywrite on it!
Reporting someone on youtube doesnt stop the 20,000 other sites that have your spoof of metal gear!

I'd have to agree with Luis here. If you made your own account and uploaded your movies at a better quality then the people who are ripping your movie off, people would most likely flock to your upload. If people are going to just do it anyway, why not provide better quality for them, while promoting viewers to come to you directly, instead of people that rip you off? Makes sense to me. :P
Probably the only way to prevent something going on to YouTube is to place some type of copyright related thing in your Flash saying 'This version of this Flash belongs on (website here) only'...if someone violates that, then sue them.
Of course,I doubt it would escalate that far.

Uhm, even with such protection, I can make a perfect recoding (but I don't want to) using a tool to embed the flash player and capture each frame just as it is rendered, without any quality loss.
