9 times out of 10 the NG search bar fails miserably at giving you the correct threads, especially if the one you want has a general word or phrase in it.

I think it's too inclusive and tries to give as many results possible.

For instance, if you search "Audio orgasm" (two completely different search terms that SHOULD make the search very, very specific) you'll get all of the popular threads with the word "AUDIO" in them - like Audio Advertisements, the lounge, etc etc.

And even if you do plan on searching through every single search result page, chances are you'd be better searching for it on google.

Anyways, I remember a thread back in 07' probably could have been 06' possibly though. It was a guy asking what type of art his ASC11 Stick figure was. I then replied "crap", a mod says "win" and locks it.

I've tried a few times to find it. Search bar brings up nothing. I may have found it with Google once but wasn't lucky this time around.

NEVR locked a similar thread to this recently ( http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1069 347 ) but I think the format for asking for help finding a thread might work better than the original "write a sentence describing the thread you're looking for" method in here, so I figured I'd give that guy-with-a-good-idea-that-just-happened-
to-not-be-original a little shoutout/ego-stroke and paste his format idea here.

Normally I leave the "find this for me?" stuff to Shunshuu, but I might actually try to help out when it comes to finding THREADS, as I loves me some old threads, and on my various computers from the past 10 years (all 3 of 'em), I have literally 1000s of NG threads bookmarked.... sad, I know:

DESCRIPTION: The greatest thread in General history, IMO. It featured a battle between bartard and HeReTiK (who's also well known as a flash artist in the portal) and various other General regulars. Only the battle was acted out via horrible, horrible, AMAZING MS paint pictures. It was such a great thread, I couldn't help but get in on the action myself a bit. Mostly consisted of hilarious posttext and MSpaint pics showing various level icons/postcount screenshots with arms, legs, and weapons... doing horrible violence to each other.

(I could find this one on my own by hooking up my old late90s/early00s PC to a powersource... but A) that's a pain... and B) the above serves as a good example of using the form like EggfordTheEgg did in his ownill-fated thread... and C) I'm pimping the glorious General thread in question... and D) finally, I'm seeing if there's still anyone around here that has memories of the greatness of General back in 2003 besides me. A bit of a test. #;-}>)

Hm, I searched through a ton of Heretik's posts... from early February to early January 2003, and I can find 20 threads ABOUT the thread in question, but I can't find the thread in question!

well, I just searched (quick visual scans while paging down rapidly, then clicking previous page... I was looking for the PICTURES I would have been posting in the topic more than for posts or topic titles) from page 373 to page 335, where April 2003 began... and where (er... when) I was having a conversation about b/p rank goals with Recon Rebel in the LUL.... and by that time, by April '03, I was mostly in Wi/Ht? and not in General that much anymore.

So it's safe to stop looking.

Yes. First I went to www.newgrounds.com/bbs from April 2003, then I clicked on General... there happened to be a Heretik thread ON PAGE 1 (man, he was prolific back then), and I clicked into his profile (which still opens in a pop-up! LOL... man, I love you, wayback machine...)..

Then went to his postsearch, as in the above link... and what do you know, it's his postsearch from when he had 1474 posts, latest post Feb 13, 2003... so not quite April, but that should be good enough. :::searches:::

Yeah, I noticed that, too. And of course it's problematic that only SOME pictures load and others don't. A real pity. But anyway, as was probably clear to you, my quest became a compulsion just to FIND the damned thread, and by the time I found it I was too exhausted to want to look at all the posts and pictures anyway.

I still can't believe someone deleted it. I hope I never find out which mod or admin did it, because it would forever taint my feelings towards them. ;_;

Sure it was silly, but back in 2003, silly was king. And good-natured silliness, especially. 3-4 years later, topics may have been less silly, but a lot of them (on General, I mean) were way more mean-spirited and far less funny (to me, at least).

Anyway, you can't truly judge that topic unless you can see all the pictures that bartard and HeReTiK made.

Some of the pictures on this page of bartard's post history provide a pretty good idea of what his were like:

However, most of Heretik's good ones were in THE THREAD that was deleted, so there's no way I can show you what they were like. Take bartard's pics, but add 3x as much funny, and 10x as much twistedness.

The humour was from him taking situations that bartard had depicted in MS paint and turning them on their heads... he'd put bartard and the other "characters" in bartard's pics into situations where the tables were turned and they were about to get pwned (or already pwned), and the ways in which the little level icon characters would get killed or tortured were very well depicted (for MS paint, that is #;-}>)...

Anyway this old lay-out brings back memories. Everything looked pretty nice back then actually, wouldn´t even mind if we went back to it. Also I love how you can still open peoples profiles.

The page 1 layout or the page 2 layout? Page 1 layout was fine, but I like today's colours better. Page 2 layout is nice and black and simple, but I think the slightly more modern layouts of page 1 and the redesign are superior, colours aside.

Page 1 lay-out. I´ve never witnessed the page 2 lay-out since that was from before 2004(?).

What I liked about the page 1 lay-out is that everything seems so simple and compact. Nowadays everything seems so much bigger and there are so many new links and options on every page.
