Ok, well, like every other indian child forced to be a doctor, I'm taking sciences in UBC (if i get in of course). About how long do doctor...ing courses take? I know I gotta do a whole buncha sciences, then go to med school, and then do an apprentaceship thingy... How long does all that stuff take?

Well in Ireland generally the undergrad university courses will take about 5 of 6 years (1st year generally just covers all the sciences, you may be allowed to skip this if you've done prior study of them) then around 2 years in the hospital. After that you'll need to decide what you're going to be specialising in, and may then need to do another few years study in your given field.

Alternatively you can do a 4 year postgrad rather than the 5-6 year undergrad, but after that it's pretty much the same.

Not bad, if a little quiet. I decided not to go to any house parties this year, which was just as well because later New Year's night I started feeling a bit sick out of the blue. Thankfully though it passed by the following morning.

As a matter of interest, when are you guys back to college? I know some of you may already be back, or will soon, it's just that I have another 3 weeks still to go and wanted to see how things compare elsewhere.

Semester break (Winter Holidays) ended today. Which is a bit strange because at first the date was "10th of January"... ah well.

What uncle of yours is a doctor? I've never met this uncle have I?

I'm pretty sure that Mikey's girlfriend only had to go to college for 8 years, but I never thought of medical school or anything like that. Oh well, so it's at least 8 years or more.

Also, how was everyones New Years?
It was good. I was with you. :)

Yeah, it wasn't that bad except for I was extremely tired for the entire time. We both were. We were tired up until the countdown and slept through the football game the next day. God I was dead for some reason.

Well I was suppose to be at a party. I showed up, but only a couple of other people did too. One was pregnant and two of us don't really drink that much so it wasn't much of a party. It was more of hanging out than anything. It didn't help that I was really tired and didn't feel like doing much.

I'm going back Sunday. It's going to be nice being back.

I finally get a roommate too. If some of you have seen Hay Wars or Beneath The Sheets (two movies I have on newgrounds) the kid that is in the movies with me is going to be my roommate. He's transferring over and my roommate that I did have dropped out.

The one in Pittsburgh and no you haven't. It does depend on what type of doctor you'd like to be, just face it, you'll be in school a long time it's as simple as that. :)

dammit this sucks. I'm going back to my classes in two weeks but I can't find another good GenEd class to take. I've tried searching anything that remotely interests me but the class always interferes with my art required classes. I really need another class because if I have about 18 hours this semester, it would cost the same as if I took 13 hours.

You sure about 18 hours? I wouldn't be so quick to get out of school early by doing that, plus that's a stressful semester if you're taking 6 classes. Also it depends on what kind of GenEds you're looking at and if your schedule is too restrictive in the first place to add another class. I recommend a Psych or Sociology 100 class as both are 4 credit hours and there are so many different class times that you're bound to find one that fits your schedule. They're also both pretty interesting.

I'm not really seeing how 18 hours will cost the same as 13. Does your university give a discount for more hours taken or something? Plus, 18 hours would be demanding, especially if you have to work and such. The most hours I ever took was 16, which was plenty for me.

well right now I have 4 classes which add up to 13 hours. I really wanted to take Anatomy because I enjoyed it in high school, but I can't find it under the GenEd listing. I'll try to find a Psych or Sociology class, I guess, but all my morning slots are filled and I only have room after 3 pm on most days.

the tuition costs the same as long as it's under 18 hours. If it's more, you have to pay more for the classes (at least I'm sure that's how it is). Last semester I took 15 hours, and it wasn't that bad, so another couple of hours shouldn't hurt.

Would this be the one that has convinced you to go another four years of college at Pittsburgh? You know I rather just go 4 years and be done. Teach in a small town not someplace as big as Pittsburgh. You caught me when I wasn't paying attention though and I said I would move with you.

Perhaps taking the medication for my allergies, which is already suppose to make you tired, along with some alcohol made me tired. That's what I'm assuming what happened to me, but I have no explanation for why you were sleeping other than we are lazy.

I finally get a roommate too.

Why, are you going to rape him or something? I know you guys use to date. Well I know this because I was the one to hook you two up. I'll be sure to warn him as I'm sure he doesn't want a night full of rape.

I have 17 hours this semester and that's enough for me. If anything I may have to drop a class this semester if I can't find time for everything. Hopefully I can get them all done and out of the way though. I can't really afford falling behind anymore. I already dropped behind enough when I changed majors.

And I'm ready for that game. I hope it's a good one. I don't really care who wins either I just hope it's full of points and hard hits.

The only way it would cost more would be for the books. It really doesn't matter if you take 13 hours or 18 hours for the price other than the books right? I've made it by so far in college with about 4 or so classes that didn't need books. Hopefully I can get by this semester with one or two classes without books. I'm sure there will be text required for most of them though.

I know for a fact that one class doesn't have a book though so at least that helps a little.

man...all the PHYS and SOC classes are either taken or don't fit into my schedule. I can't find anything. I think I'm going to just take a random class and drop it if I don't like it.

It won't take 4 years, at most it'll take 2. I never said you had to go another 4 years but I want too and there's nothing wrong with going a little bit longer, it looks better when applying for jobs and you'll have more opportunities. I never said you had to teach right in Pittsburgh, there are small towns that surround it.

I finally get a roommate too.

Ew, I'll pass thanks. Thumbs up for the hook up also. *Sarcasm* :)

I guess I could have looked on your uni's sitefirst. I never heard of one rate for full time students. I always thought all universities go by X amount per credit hour. Interesting...

I'm a first year Electrical Engineering student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Electrical engineering is pretty interesting stuff, especially AC current. After I graduate, I'll probably take a shot at getting a master's, or maybe try to go work at Raytheon or maybe the National Security Agency.

One thing that's kind of bothering me is my work schedule at the library. The best times to work are on Friday/Saturday nights (because it doesn't interfere with classes, and nobody goes to the library at night). But obviously working on Friday and Saturday nights doesn't do wonders for my social life.

To say "I love you", one must first learn to say "I".

I got my first offer today. From York, for an A in Physics, and a B in any other subject, not counting the A in Maths I already have.

I can probably manage that.

I start back on the 12th. Only a few of my friends are around at the moment, as the rest of them are being annoying and not coming back to uni until the weekend. It's only a few days now, but I've already been here a week so it's been kinda boring.

Looking forward to having a shitheap of work to be getting on with though ;P

I will also be going back to college today. My schedule today looks something like this.

1) Go buy your books because the website delivers them to slowly. (Over 500 dollars this semester)
2) Organize the room with the new roommate. We are bringing a futon and a couple of TV's. One for gaming and one for TV.
3) Go eat.
4) Anything I want to do.

Something that I'm also going to start doing here soon is going to the movies every Tuesday. (As long as the movie they are showing is something that I'm interested in) Every Tuesday as long as I have my college identification it doesn't cost anything. This is a great deal and I wish I would have taken advantage of it before.

You should reconsider. It's not really like you need your books day one or even week one. Even if you do then you can always make borrow it from the prof, the TA, or some new friends.

I remember my first few years in college I use to get every single book for every single class but towards my last year I only bought for the classes that "really" required it. Also, I realized that some of the textbooks were on reserve in the library, which really cut down on textbook spending. You might want to look in to that too.

I can't believe I never saw this group before... I'm a freshman over at Western Illinois University, as a Broadcasting major, and so far it's going pretty darn swell, I go back next Sunday, the 18th.

Have you ever considered a book rental system? There are tons of sites online in which you can just borrow books, and return them at the end of the semester. I saved roughly $300 doing it this way, and that was on several hardcover books.

Or try Half.com, if you're looking to buy books for keeps.

Just found out that my supposed first week back of term, which starts tomorrow, is a research week. So I have no lectures for the whole week.

Kinda stupid having a research week on the first week back though... there's not a whole lot to research compared to if they had it, say, in the middle of the term.

Well I just got done with my first class. It wasn't too bad, but we really didn't do anything yet. We pretty much introduced each other and the common things that you would do in the first day of class. I have a couple of assignments and a couple of things to read for tonight, but they won't take more than a half hour to an hour each. Hopefully I don't get too much in my other classes, but if I do I can just do it Tuesday since I have completely different classes on Tuesdays.

I was actually 1 of 3 guys in my class. One being me of course, two being the teacher, and three being someone that I know from last year. The other 20-30 students are girls.

It's also the longest class that I have since it's around 2 hours long. My other classes are only an hour long. What a way to start the day off, 8 AM class that lasts two hours. D:

Also, thanks for the tips on the books and stuff. I'll try the websites and probably the rental thing next year.

your classes are starting already? I still have 2 more weeks to go. maybe its because I don't go to a private college. oh well guess this break has felt short, which is good since I'm bored a lot now.

Yeah, well perhaps I started break before you did or something. I'm not completely sure, but I had a complete month off. It didn't seem too fast or anything for me, but I guess I was starting to get bored a little.

Anyway, done with two classes today. The second one seems like it's going to be extremely easy and the teacher was funny as hell. I probably spent half of the class laughing because of all of his stories. He also mentioned that we didn't need the book and that we could go sell it back. That's great news to me since any money is going to help a lot.

I still have four more classes to go to today. So, I'm taking the chance and relaxing now while I still have the chance.

I had more like 2 weeks (19th December to 12th January), but with the research week I guess that bumps it up to a month.

Extra week to get drunk and annoy my flatmates whilst they have to do assignments.

I just sent off my UCAS application today.

What a stupid, procrastinating faggot I am. Should have done it months ago.

Applied for Politics/Economics at Newcastle, Birmingham, Leicester and Liverpool.

And Hull lol.

Hull actually has one of the highest rated politics departments in Europe, but still...Hull lol.

I have to buy this program before my classes next week called Live Text. I'm going to end up using it every year until I graduate now, but it's just more money that I have to through out there now. At least I found out that I didn't need one of my books so I will be getting 80 dollars back for that. There are two versions for it so I'm not completely sure which one I'm suppose to get or if I have to get a certain one so I'm off to email my professor about that right now.
