Sociology. Partially because it's such a broad major and you have a decent amount of different choices when you get out of school, and also because it's somewhat related to psychology. I was always interested in psychology but like I mentioned before, I don't have the means to have the type of career I want from it.

I have a question.

Now I lived and went to school in Ohio my whole entire life until this summer when I moved to D.C.. Now my question is; Do I have to pay out of state tuition, or not and if I do what is the minimum amount of months I have to live in a state to be considered a resident of said state?

You would be considered out of state. If you moved to DC permanently and I believe live there for six month then applied, you might be considered in-state. At OU, out of state resident are almost never allowed to change their status even if they lived in Oklahoma for years, unless there is some major change, i.e. they'd got married or become truly independent in some way.

I'm just going to say this: If next semester isn't a bit lighter than this one, I quit engineering. Our midterms lasted for nine weeks, and the last two weeks of the term were entirely consumed by a design project that they kept changing on us.

Just finished up one of my classes this morning with a 4 hour exam. It was actually pretty fair, but the questions were so open-ended that I feel like you could always write more for them. I was scribbling in the margins up until the "pencils down" call.

I have no idea how well or poorly I did, since its all done on a sliding scale and I haven't gotten a feel for how smart the people in my class are - but hopefully I'm not somewhere near the bottom. I need to get a high rank to open up my chances of a decent summer internship, or else I will probably end up working at a shopping mall or something.

2 more exams to go, and then I'll be hitting the slopes!

Well big day for me tomorrow.. I can either ace the Economics final and barely pass the class or anything less will give me a failing grade. I went over 18 chapters worth of material today and I'm to the point that even if I read more I can't make sense of the information anymore. I'm going to try and look over stuff tomorrow before the exam and hopefully theres some luck on my side. I guess you guys were right though. Even though final exams can be so much stress the feeling afterwards is awesome. You're just done and you don't have to worry about it until another semester.

Bedtime for me.

Well I've only been living here about two months, but I talked to someone about it and they said something about it depends on where you pay your taxes. IDK, but I don't have a job or own anything at the moment. So if I ask my parents to not let me be a dependent or something and just say I live at my friend's, or one of my family member's house I think I can save about 7 grand per.

Oh yeah and are you excited for the Sooners going to the National Championship? Because they haven't looked so good the past couple of bowl games.

Ouch dude. I have a final tomorrow at 8 am but my situation is not that dire. I think I'm getting a C in the class mostly from lack of participation and the teacher being a bitch about grading. I just need to do ok on this and it'll be another hurdle out of the way.

Hey guys? When does one apply for a university? I'm still going through my semesters right now, but I should be able to apply for a university now right? When did you all sign up for collage/uni?

Also personal question... Are there really dorm parties n stuff in collage/uni?

Just remember those supply and demand curves, multipliers, and such. :) Since as you said, it's just an intro class, you could do like you said take it at another college and transfer it (for cheaper and for and easier grade). It's not like you are required to take only at your school, like an upper division course.

At 12/12/08 12:21 AM, DELUCA2400 wrote: Well I've always been interested i student politics and I've always wanted to share experiences with fellow Italian Americans. So I'll look into those.

I really enjoyed student government because you really get to complain to the administration and fix things around campus. I gave it up to become President of the American Indian Student Association which was a huge deal (and time consumer) because OU has one of the largest native populations. I enjoyed it so much and made so many friends there. That's what clubs are all about.

Well I've only been living here about two months, but I talked to someone about it and they said something about it depends on where you pay your taxes. . . . It wouldn't work, at least at OU. You would have to be completely financially self sufficient. Not even marking yourself independent on the FAFSA is good enough. You are right though it's the state where you pay your taxes and declare your permanent residency. Just ask your admissions office.

Oh yeah and are you excited for the Sooners going to the National Championship? Because they haven't looked so good the past couple of bowl games.

Yeah don't remind me. Big Game Bob better earn his paycheck. But I am excited and I loved how we totally screwed Texas. Classic :)

I can only speak from personal experience, but I applied 'Early Decision' to my university in the fall of my Senior Year of highschool. Depending upon which schools you are looking at, they may or may not have the option to apply early. The good thing about applying early is that you have the opportunity to be accepted in a school, usually the first one on your list, before you even begin your second semester of senior year. This reduces the amount of stress you have to deal with as you prepare to close out your highschool career, which is huge.

There are two options which a college/uni may have in terms of Early Admission:
Early Action: in which you apply to the school earlier than most people (early November), and if you are accepted you can still choose to apply elsewhere, but at least you have that acceptance to fall back on.
Early Decision: you apply to the school earlier than most people (early November), and if you are accepted you must rescind all other applications to other schools - you sign a binding agreement to go to that school if accepted.

Later in your Senior Year, usually around late January or early February, you submit your application in the Regular Admission process if you haven't been accepted Early Decision.

However, I began looking at schools as early as Sophomore Year of highschool - but I was an athlete who wanted to continue my career in college, so I literally mailed out 30-40 resumes to coaches with my stats, my grades and my standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, SAT IIs).

If you aren't an athlete, I recommend that you begin narrowing your choices down by first looking through guide books. First narrow the schools down by geographical location (how far do you want to be from home? Do you want to go out of your country? etc.). Then look at schools that provide the major/area of study you are looking for. Then look at the grade/test score qualifications of the schools in your area of interest that seem interesting to you - basically ask yourself 'Do I have a shot at getting in here?'. After you've selected a shortened list of viable options, begin to narrow them down by asking: Can I afford to go here? Do they have the campus I want? Do they have the extracurricular activities I'm looking for? Etc.

After you've narrowed your list down to single digits, its time to go visiting. Take the tour. Ask questions. Fill out your name onto every slip of paper they might give you - admissions offices keep track of those questionnaires, sign-in sheets, etc., to determine your interest in the school. You don't have to visit all of the schools you will apply to - just the top ones on your list. But it is important to avoid the hassle of transferring if it turns out you didn't inspect a school closely enough before enrolling and you ended up hating it by taking the proper steps now and asking anything that might be on your mind.

Also personal question... Are there really dorm parties n stuff in collage/uni?

Yes there are, but rarely does one find the stereotypical Hollywood College Party. Sure, you might find yourself in the midst of an underwear party or Toga party - but movies would have you believe that college life is like that 24-7. Yeah - you do have some crazy fun at college, but it is usually outweighed by the amount of work you have to do during the 6 other nights in the week.

Of course, I struggled academically in college, so some other guys may have a different opinion as to how much partying they were able to do.

I know how you feel. For one of my Business Administration courses I was studying all the materials for a whole months 8 hours a day. But it was just too much material and I ended up not participating in the examn... :/
instead I repeated that course next semester by a different lecturer and it was much easier. ^^

Boy, I'm glad I don't have to worry about examns until late February 2009...

Crazy dream last night. I had a dream that I woke up at 10:50 for my 10:00 exam today and then it was just me making a footrace to get there in time with hopes that he would let me take the test during his next class or in his office. You know how when you try to run in your dreams and it's like you are going extremely slow? Well I was basically walking even though I was trying so hard to get there. The first part of my dream was actually on campus, but the other half of my dream was just completely messed up. I was going through weird buildings that had electric fence set up, which I had to either crawl under or jump over. I had people trying to stop me from getting there and they were chasing me around with four wheelers and everything. More fucked up things happened and I ended up in my house relaxed. I don't even know if I took my exam in my dream. O.o

Yeah - I always have those types of dreams during exam period. Two nights ago, while I was trying to rest up for my exam, I most have woken up 6 or 7 times after having dreams where either I a) missed the exam completely, or b) had the exam in front of me, but didn't understand any of the questions. I would wake up in a cold sweat and then quickly check my alarm clock to make sure I wasn't late.

God I can't wait until I'm done with this school nonsense.

This looks like a cool club. I'm in my first year at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston studying a BSc Hons in Forensic Science. Any questions? And yes, you WILL be in debt when you finally graduate :P

hey I would like to be in the college life club, I currently attend a community college in NYC and will hopefully go in to a senior college by next year. I want to go into forensics for now but we'll see if that's still the plan a year from now. in any case whatever I pick its going to be science related. though ironically I will not be a frequent poster for a week because its the final week of the semester,so that means finals and last minute paper writing, but looking forward to being a member.

Getting on with the last coursework essay that I have to give in this term. I've left it late to start (again), and I have until 1pm on Monday to finish it. It's going alright so far, but I still have another ~2,000 words to go. Luckily the material I've chosen to write on is good, which makes the essay writing itself smoother.

your lucky, though hind sight being 20/20 all this backed up work could have been avoided had I actually spaced out my work over the semester instead of letting it pile up on me. however in my defense its partially my teacher's fault for making it due at the end of the semester :p

Nice. :)

This essay, whilst one of the longest ones I've been given so far, isn't really stressing me out though. I guess I've just gotten into the groove of efficient essay writing or whatever.

ALMOST DONE!!!!

I have one final left, and I have to finsih 2 thesis chapters for monday. I can't believe I made it this far. I've decided not to read 2 of the books that were assigned this semester, but they weren't even on the original list I posted. So, oh well.

Fun story, I woke up yesterday and couldn't log onto my computer. Went into safe mode and couldn't get to any of my files. Created a new account and tried the same thing, still failed to open files. Finally, I decided to delete the old account so that it would let me save the files to my desktop. This didn't work either and I ended up not having an account and still not being able to access my files with about 2 hours until my writing portfolio was due.

Finally, I got hold of a boot-disc (a magical cd of wonders) and managed to get my files and print them, but I was unable to fix all of the damage. So, I copied what I could in the time I had to my new profile and now I'm in desperate need of a reformat and back up, but I'll need a boot-disc again to do that.

It was a fun day, LET ME TELL YOU.

Not really. There are parties but not like the scale like Animal House or Old School. At my uni, they really cracked down after a pledge died after drinking essentially an entire bottle of Hot Damn. Nowadays, most of the parting takes place off campus or at clubs.

Think I might have failed my chemical reaction engineering final. Luckily, the course website says nothing about needing to pass the final to pass the course, and I DEFINITELY racked up enough marks to pass the course.

Frankly, you guys are nuts for choosing an Engineering-related area of study.

And BBM, you're a jerk for rubbing your early Christmas vacation in our faces!

No matter - One week and two exams from now, I'll be hitting the slopes of Vermont for some much-needed fun.

I came off one of my finals thinking I had done decently well to find an email from my teacher waiting for me saying that everyone in the class had done pretty badly on the exam. What's worse is she sent this right before I was going to go out with friends. I think my teacher was trying to deflate everyone's mood for the night on purpose.

Well I thought I did decent in my Economics exam, but apparently I didn't do well enough as I have failed the class. That means I get to retake the class again next year sometime. Oh well, I'm shooting for a different teacher and I think I will be fine. That or I might try to find an online class and transfer the credits over.
