Anybody who acts like that in general isn't worth knowing.
This semester is flying by. Next week will be the 6th week, which is the half way point as far as lectures go. After those 6 weeks I have 3 exams and then it's Christmas already. It's crazy haw fast university goes by when compared to school, but I suppose I only spend half of the year in education now.

I didn't really get on with all the guys in my halls. I chatted to one of them who I'll say hi to if I meet him in the pub, but that's it. All my friends I made through my course/friends of friends/etc
I was the same. There wasn't a single person in my halls that I'd particularly say I was friends with or even knew all that well at all. There was one guy that I'd stop and talk with if we bumped into each other but the rest I'd just generally ignore. They didn't seem like my kind of people. Almost like middle class chavs in some cases.

So I did my psrty trick tonight which is mifnight condom flossing, which has at least chaged my name from racist patrick, not sure how preferable that is.
So uh, fall break is pretty nice.
Aside from the fact that I have to go back a day earlier than I hoped, due to the fact that it saves me $300 on air travel.

Back into lectures starting tomorrow. Not looking forward to it. Have 5 hours with no breaks on Tuesday.
Are any of you in frats? (I'm a sophomore in high school right now, not in college.) And if so, did you have to do anything to get in?
I don't get any October holidays :( I suppose we make up for that be getting a near 6 month long summer break though.

Yea. It's nice in theory, but if you're not doing anything all summer it can start to drag on a bit.

hey guys!
freshman here, i'm loving the college life so far. i was just wondering, what are some ways you guys are making some cash on the side? i'm going to a very expensive school, i have maxed out financial aid, and i'm currently holding two work-study jobs. is there anything else i could be doing to make some more money for my tuition/expenses?

Medical trials.
My hall (well not mine the one 2 doors down that's part of the same group) got a pizza vending machine, everything is now awesome.

I didn't even know such a thing existed. It does sound awesome though. When I stayed on campus there was a place that sold some of the best pizzas I've ever eaten about 50 meters from my front door.

Back from a weekend trip with the department to some fancy lodge the queen owns, helpful to get to know the people on my course better.

That sounds pretty cool. How many people went? I can't imagine we'd ever have gotten to do that because the class is fairly large.
I have to give a presentation in front of around 50 people in Thursday and I'm really not looking forward to it. I want it to be over and done with but at the same time I don't want the time to come.

Not everyone went, I'd say maybe a third to half of our first year class.

We sometimes get handouts, most of our lectures are recorded and made available to download, and the powerpoints are available, I don't see a reason to use up paper on notes as of yet.
At 10/24/11 06:21 AM, Ejit wrote: What do you lot do in terms of notes?
The only class that I took notes in was my maths classes. Even then it wasn't really notes, it was just copying out what the lecturer did because they never used slides. Plus, with something likes maths I wont learn unless I actually write stuff down. All the rest of my classes though I don't take notes. The slides are made available and they've been enough for me to pass all my exams on the first attempt so far.
One of our lecturers this semester always seems shocked that people don't take notes. She claims that the slides alone wont cover all the content as she is able to set exam questions based on anything she has said in class. I still don't really find all that much to take notes on that aren't in the slides.

I always took notes and then copied the most important things from my notes over to note cards that I could carry around with me. That way if I had a test coming up I could just pull them out of my pocket and study. I rarely studied though, but just writing them down and copying them again was usually enough repetition for me to remember most of the information.
The professor that marked my computing assignment has just tried to scam me out of a whole percent by saying I didn't plot a trendline, even though nowhere in the assessment did it ask for me to plot a trendline. Needless to say I have sent them a very aggressive email saying I shouldn't be marked down for not doing something I wasn't asked to do.
I take notes in every lecture because that's how physics is taught. Chalk and talk is the best way to lecture anyway, I get NOTHING from powerpoints. Our lectures consist of something being explained, and then notes for it being written up on the blackboard. Copy down everything the lecturer writes and you get a pretty solid set of notes.

wow its almost as if you lost a single percentage of coursework that is probably about 5% of your module, which is under 10% of your year, which is worth nothing anyway
Went out last night for a girl from my halls birthday and got absolutely fucked, subsequently missed all my lectures today.
They guy I was walking home with got seperated from me as well, apparently he got mugged by three huge asians after we got split up, hip hip London.
Phew. My presentation is over and done with. It wasn't so bad once I got started, it was just the waiting for it that was nerve racking. I should have done alright and I don't think that I particularly messed anything up, so that's always a plus.
Now it's time to try and get the remaining 3 pieces of coursework out of the way:
- Modelling a creature in OpenGL using our initials
- Creating some kind of small expert system using Clips
- Some kind of logic assignment where, I shit you not, we get 5 marks for answering the question "Do you understand the course?" with "yes". The lecturer seems quite eccentric, but I she seems to know what she's doing.

I've come to the realisation that although my lectures are recorded and I can catch up whenever, they are 2 hours each which racks up to a huge time investment if I miss too many.
