Hmm, I have just one more chapter to study for an exam Wensday, but other than I really don't have much to do for a little bit. I'm still a week ahead in one of my classes and won't have an exam in the others for another week.

Tonight I'm getting some Chinese food and then I'm heading out to the boxing match here. The other teams are Penn State, Army, Navy, Mansfield, etc.. Some other colleges from the area also. It's awesome since the matches are free for students to attend. My old roommate is ranked 3rd in the nation and boxes 136. He's the last match of the night so it'll be a late one.

One of my classes were canceled today and I feel like skipping another one. It will be the first time that I skipped a class not only this semester, but also this year. It's not one of the classes that takes attendance as a grade and it's a class that I can afford to miss once or twice a week and still be perfectly fine in terms of knowing what we did in class.

Even though he is giving our exam back today. I'm almost 100 percent that I got a 100 percent on it though. So I'm not too worried about that either.

Do you guys have Reading Weeks? It's a week where pretty much all of the courses in the uni get a week off of lectures to hunker down and revise and write essays and most importantly go out and get trashed. It neatly coincides with school half-terms and people often go home for some or all of it.

Except me, because my shitty course doesn't have a reading week, so I have just as many lectures as always, except all my flat mates are surprised when I trudge in at 7:30, having been in the labs doing homework all afternoon and evening.

I had an interview at Lancaster this week. My interviewer was a Bond villain. Dr Oleg Kolosov, laser specialist. Offered an A and a B, which I've already been offered from York, so I'll not being going to Lancaster.

I had one right at the beginning of this term, first week back.

Most ridiculous time to have a reading week, if you ask me, because there's nothing to catch up on, per se. All my friends have their reading week this week, which is somewhat irritating as I'm hung over today and will probably be shuffling down to lectures in my baggy tracksuit bottoms looking generally malcontented, grunting negative comments about everything I set eyes upon.

At least it's afternoon lectures today. I really much, MUCH prefer them to morning lectures. Seems more relaxed somehow.

Naw Brum Fo Lyfe.

Birmingham were the last uni to get back to me, and only when I went up for an applicants-with-offers open day did I decide I wanted to go there, before then, I was set on Canterbury/Southampton.

Have any of you ever been rejected by any colleges before you got into your current college?

No, why?

I have a friend who was rejected from 4 of his 6 choices when he applied a couple of years ago. It confused me considering he was a seemingly model applicant. He was a much better applicant than I was anyway, and I got 6 offers from a non-serious application that I only did to keep my school happy.

When I applied seriously the year after, I cancelled the applications for which the offers hadn't come in for as soon as I got an offer from my first choice.

I start uni on Monday, still haven't made any friends, except a few dudes i said hello to yesterday at this orientation week, and there doesn't seem to be any young people doing my course, they're all former uni students.

Nah. I had the grades to get into my first choice but I decided to go to a smaller local college for the first couple of semesters. I paid less for the required gen eds that I would have taken at my first choice so it was better overall for me.

It takes time. I didn't really make any good friends until my second year. Just go to the local hangouts, join some clubs, and enjoy yourself.

Today was one of those days where I was just going to sleep right in, but this time by accident. My alarm went off at 7:00 AM like it always does and I shut it off. I don't remember anything after that as I fell right back to sleep.

Luckily my girlfriend woke me up at 7:30 so I had a reasonable amount of time to get ready for an 8:00 class that is somewhere around half a mile away from my room. I walked into the room at 7:59. I'm happy I didn't miss because he let us know about two extra credit assignments that are due first thing Monday, which I would have not known anything about because I don't have that class again until Monday.

So don't I. I just meant that I don't have that same exact class until next Monday. I still have two classes Thursday and two on Friday.

I usually only have one on Friday, but I have a Biology lab that is optional to go to. I plan on going to it as of now. The only reason I won't is if I'm sick or something like that.

Also, to the question about getting accepted into the colleges that you applied to I personally made it into every college that I applied to. That being said I only applied to two different colleges. :p

Question directed at those with any experience in English Universities. Apparently on the applications there's a question asking whether you smoke and that it's vital you put down if you do, even if it is just socially. Anyone have any idea what this is for. Is there smoking/non smoking rooms in some Uni's, or do you think they'll just put your application to the bottom of the pile.

Any facts/theories on this would be greatly appreciated :)

IIRC, I never had to answer such a question on my application. They definitely don't have smoker's rooms in university halls, though. I believe they're all non-smoking.

I dunno what the significance of the question is, frankly... but even if you did smoke and you put down that you didn't, there's no way that they can prove you didn't take it up *after* you went to uni. ;)

You'll probably find EVERY room is non-smoking at pretty much every uni in the UK.

It's actually illegal to smoke on campus at all here. I think it's a 50-100 dollar fine for the first offense if you are caught smoking by the campus police. That's anywhere on campus too so if your out by your car in the parking lot you still can't smoke.

This still doesn't stop anyone though. I've never seen anyone actually get in trouble for smoking and people are all over the place doing it. So they really haven't enforced it at all.

I think that happens to a lot of kids. I mean, you have your 'Reach Schools' and your 'Safety Schools' - you are likely going to be rejected from at least one of your ambitious applications. I had a friend who got rejected from like 6 out of 7 schools she applied to, went to that safety school for a year, and then transferred over to her top choice after her freshman year.

But to answer your question, No - I got into my first choice through the Early Decision process, and had to actually rescind all of my other applications.

Hey guys, can I join?

I've just started University at the Australian National University, doing a B Software Engineering. Lectures don't start until next week though; this week which is called O-week in Australia, is pretty much a huge excuse to get drunk and do fun stuff every night.

So do you guys live on or off-campus? I'm living on campus, at a college called John XXIII. It's been awesome, heaps of cool people.

I live on campus. I just picked where I'm going to live for next year this morning around 9:30. I got the dorm that is right next to all of the class rooms, the cafeteria, and the gym. The way we pick is from pulling a number out of a box and that's the order that we choose our dorms. I was lucky to get 116 so I got to pick really early. My girlfriend picked somewhere around 700 though so she doesn't have too much of a chance to get into the dorm that I'm in, but there's still a chance.

I live on campus until like June or something. I'm living in a house next year; the deposit went through today so all that's left to do is wait for the contract to arrive and sign it.
