voting system? or fail system? 2008-12-01 18:03:17 Reply

I noticed things like the voting system when i first got my ng account, people that posted reviews like "lulz awesome" get labeled as helpful, which I don't see how a review like that is helpful at all, they didnt describe why they liked the piece. I also noticed that when people give bad reviews and low scores, mainly to the things on frontpage, it gets labeled as useless. Am I the only one lost on this one?

I don't like it either. If your review compliments the author, then it wont get deleted. I disagree, but there's nothing we can do about it. Just go with the flow...

It could be encouraging the author to make more, and in that way be helpful.

How aren't bad reviews with low scores useless? Perhaps even abusive? Not following you there..

It's just because people people mark reviews that they agree with as helpful and reviews that they don't agree with as useless. I never do this when reading the reviews on my submissions. I always mark the ones helpful that actually helped me out and/or gave a good constructive review and mark the ones useless if they were completely useless. It doesn't really matter though does it? You won't ever get enough people to mark them the right way and it's not really hurting anyone if a clearly helpful review is marked as useless. I wouldn't care if all of my helpful reviews were marked as useless and if all of my useless reviews were marked as helpful. It doesn't really change anything.

Constructive criticism, if I'm not mistaken, is emphasized on this site. When people don't like a flash, they give it a negative review and, no matter how helpful on making a better flash it is, people instantly see it as abusive beacuse it doesn't follow their opinion of "right."

People in general are emotionally driven...they see a negative review as "mean" and instantly mark it useless. Someone else who doesn't like the flash goes through and marks all the negative reviews as helpful. It's kind of annoying, but it can't really be expected for everyone to do that kind of thing with complete objectivity ;) Whenever I see it on the site, I simply mark the reviews how I feel appropriate...it's just one vote, but at least it sets the rating going in the right direction again.

Support a local composer. All you need to contribute is $10.00 per hour, for sixty years.
Or, you could just visit a profile page and rate/review stuff. Hint-ety hint hint.

Like everyone said, people mark mean reviews as useless and good reviews about the flash with helpful..but i think this has a little cause also, since constructive reviews start to not appear so much , new NG users might forget whats constructive or not..anyways it's not like i like that some get helpful reviews by saying that map was good or something..

I think the review rating system is unneeded too.
