I know you're all looking down on him, but if one of your friends died, maybe one that you didn't treat as well as you felt towards them, then yeah, you'd start to weigh that stuff in, and think about how you should have acted, since you obviously didn't feel that way, but your actions said something different. Since you all aren't going through this, you're forgetting all the shitty things you do to your friends on a regular basis, just it doesn't mean much to you because you don't have something monumental (like their death) casting a light on all those things you've done. Maybe I'm assuming too much. I know at least, I'm guilty of this, not on this scale, but yes. Doesn't rationalize what you've done, but maybe have some more empathy, since you're all probably doing the same thing to a certain extent. We don't value things until they're gone, pretty simple concept.

This.......I agree with all of this. The OP might not have been the best of people, he may not have acted like the best of people BUT he is expressing grief here...and you guys are berating him. To me it sounds like this guy is making a turn around. And TheCatsLeotard is right...no one truly understands what they have until it is gone.
