Well, I'm sure it couldn't hurt to draw familiar characters over and over. I did have to fix a few frames to get it right. Probably something to learn each time. I think if I did this more often it would definitely help.
Took a couple key frames from a scene for reference then attempted my own in-betweens. Not much.. just something to do.
Clips with a lot of vectors take a high amount of CPU to be redrawn over and over when they pan.
You can put large vector drawings into a movie clip and use "bitmap caching" if you're only moving the clip across the stage. It also has to be a single frame inside the clip. I'm not sure if you can rotate and stretch the clip or not.
Read all about it here.
If small amounts of vector animations and tweens are causing choppiness you made need a faster computer. If it's not CPU lag, try increasing the frame rate.
Ugh, I can't think of anything to animate.
I drew a couple of expressions and tried to put them together. Need to work on cartoon characters a bit more :P
Thanks. Yeah I noticed it changed scale a bit, couldn't be bothered to fix it.
I'm going to attempt some sort of facial/character animation next I think. The lessons in this book are pretty boring.

Yeah I don't know what I was thinking with that walk. I revised a bit, just for you :D

Thanks.

Yep. I tried to change it around a bit.. there's actually a fully animated scene from that on youtube somewhere. I think the author is giving a lecture or something.
Anywho, here is some dude putting on a jacket. I wanted to try some complicated actions. Maybe a little too complicated...
..or maybe I could've just spent more time on it.
I think you might have the wrong forum for this.. but anyway:
txt_array = "cheese".split("");
text_box = "";
i = 0;
function onEnterFrame() {
if (i<txt_array.length) {
text_box += txt_array[i];
i++;
}
}
You didn't create an array for the letters of the string. Make sure you have a text box with the variable set to "text_box" or something.

Thanks. Expressions are usually more fun to draw.
I took a look at your perspective tutorial and thought I'd give it a quick tryout. Here's what I got.
Make sure the audio track is set to stream in the properties menu. This will force the animation to sync with the audio as it plays.
At 2/8/10 05:41 PM, flashero wrote: ha that's like mine.
If you don't bother putting the frame of it travelling it across the screen and instead just have it appearing at the wall wobbling it gives the effect it's travelling a lot faster
I don't know about that. For your animation I couldn't tell the arrow had been fired at the wall. It looked more like it had just appeared there.
With this animation here I can tell the arrow is coming in from the left.
If there is no actual displacement on-screen it may be very hard to give the impression of movement.
This cycle took forever..
I used one of the references.. still doesn't look right.
24 fps OMG

That looks pretty sweet. The only noticeable problem is the head changes size a bit, still looks great.

I need some tips.
This site has almost everything you need to know about walk-cycles. It's a good place to start.
First attempt from one of the lessons in that book.
The walking is a little weird, but I kinda like the rest.
Haha, I love the expressions. The lip-sync is good.. at the end there is emphasis on the word "man" that would show that mouth shape, but other than that it's great.
That looks great!
It may look a little strange that his arms come forward much wider than the feet, but it looks awesome anyway.
At 2/5/10 11:51 PM, Fawx wrote: but 6fps??
Well some of them were 8 and some were 12. The very slow ones would either be 2 frames too fast or too slow.
Anyway I think the extremes are probably more important and you can see them this way :P
Here is a little compilation of the practice animations I've done over the last few weeks. Compilation
I just picked up "The Animator's Survival Kit" and I'm planning on working my way through that.. should be fun.
Woah. That is top-notch stuff you got right there. Seriously professional looking.

This is getting pretty awesome. Especially for a stickman animation :P
Cool animations. The style reminds me of AltF4's stuff.
At 2/2/10 08:28 PM, EJR wrote: That really wasn't too bad. The frame rate was pretty low, though, so it looked kind of choppy. Good job on the animation.
You might be having problems with your browser :P
The animations look like 24 frames per second at least, which is ideal for most purposes.
I tried.. didn't work out the way I wanted. Oh well.

Umm.. I wasn't planning on doing the works on these things. The characters aren't really good, I just wanted to practice some motion and lip-syncing.
Right now I'm looking for some short audio bits to animate something to.
When comparing Pixar to Dreamworks this picture becomes very relevant.
I'm not really a fan of either.. except for maybe Ratatouille.
I prefer all the traditional 2-D disney movies that I grew up with in the 90's. Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and the Lion King to name a few. Dreamworks doesn't really hold up in that respect.. or maybe I only appreciate these movies for their nostalgic value.
At 1/30/10 11:39 PM, Alec-D wrote: TWENTY MINUTES!
I want to see what you can do in an hour, holy crap.
It's only 8 frames long with 4 flipped.. so 20 min isn't that long for 4 frames :P

Did this in a 2-point perspective running cycle in about 30 mins
That looks great, especially for a angled shot. However the motion looks more like a fast walk rather than a run. I don't see frames with both feet lifted off the ground. Still cool though.
