1) Ninjutsu is an extinct art, and no I'm not here to start a flame-war, but it's the truth, at least from what I know. If you're practicing ninjutsu, it's probably "ninpo taijutsu" which is similar, but still not ninjutsu. They probably just call it ninjutsu so they can attract more students (or it's a "McDojo" like many others, let's hope that's not the case.).
2) Martial arts are NOT meant for self-defense purposes only. Let's face it, they were used in clan fights, wars, duels, etc. I don't want this to sound like I encourage people to practice martial arts so they can kill people and stuff, but it's the simple truth, wether you like it or not.
Wow! ............
Well, you get an "A" for effort. I love how you started off sounding respectful, and then the tone of your post changed completely. But, with regards to what you've brought up:
1) From the way Tsuchiya has described the activities at his school, it's clear that the school is NOT a McDojo. Also, you're not the first person to claim that Ninjutsu is dead. Considering the detailed response that Tsuchiya gave to the last guy, the truth is that Ninjutsu is Alive & Kicking! He's also mentioned that the more specific name for his Art is Bujinkan.
2) There's not a single member of this club who thinks that self defense is meant ONLY for self defense purposes. And, honestly, you'd know that if you spent some time lurking in this club before posting.
As for joining; this is an open club for those with a serious interest in martial arts......... Honestly though, you probably won't get a lot of positive responses; if you make similar posts.
Well, first of all, let me say that I do admit my post seemed a bit rude, although that was not my intention, I keep thinking it's an extinct art, but that's my opinion, everyone else can have theirs. But just to explain why I think this is true let me add this.
According to one of my senseis, ninjutsu was an art taught between family members almost exclusively. Ninjas basicaly worked for samurais, feudal lords, etc. doing all the dirty work. Once Japan was unified, the emperor killed anyone that threatened to disrupt peace, so this in time got rid of ninjas since noone needed this dirty work done. Now, what is today known as "ninpo taijutsu" is an art that someone (forgot his name) formed based on what was written about ninjas, which of course isn't completely accurate since ninjas in general didn't know how to write, so what's written about them comes from samurais and other educated people that wrote their observations about ninjas.
Now, I'm not saying this is the truth or anything, but this is what I've been told and what I believe. Know that I explained my point of view on this, I'm gonna answer Tsuchiya.
Kenjutsu is basicaly, the art of the sword. But it really isn't about sword use specifically, meaning we also learn how to unarm someone with a sword barehandedly, a little about jo and tanto, and of course kicks. As Shihan Poly Martin says, you basicaly use whatever is in your reach to defeat your opponent, but of course, it's centered on sword use.
About a school, the only one I know is the one I'm in, Atemi-ryu. The leading master is Dr. Philipe Chenique, I'm not sure I spelled that correctly either, since I haven't even met him, he only teaches in the US (I don't know where in the US :/), I live in Costa Rica, I'm taught by Shihan Poly Martin, who is Dr. Chenique's top student. So there's a bit about kenjutsu, and to continue with this, would you tell me a bit about your art? (setting aside all this discussion)
