Zombies are appealing in popular media because it allows for extreme violence against other humans with no moral backlash. In fact, it is glorified and praised. It is the ideal situation for the collectively frustrated society we live in. That's how I see it anyway.

Combine that with the lawless scenario of an apocalypse and you have the ultimate daydream.

Nice models, the animation was pretty stiff in many places but you'll get better at that :). In the short term I would say try to avoid using the explode command so often, or at least use it with custom particles. Shattered models have a kind of... Amateurish look to them in most circumstances.

Still cool though, keep on keepin' on.

If you're looking for a good 4 year program on the East Coast it's hard to beat SCAD. HUGE selection of courses, but your latter statement makes me think you might now be able to afford / don't want to spend that much money, on SCAD. Which is by no means no slander on your financial situation, SCAD is PRETTY expensive but most university standards because it's a private school. But I'm currently there (SCAD) for a study away program from the Visualization Department at A&M. It's really good. One of my teachers used to work for Dreamworks if that's any indication of who you'll be learning from.

Hmm yes, I have heard of SCAD. There are posters all over the art and design hall where I did my undergraduate study. I love Dreamworks so that is good to know. I have been thinking of taking out a loan - I've managed to dodge that bullet so far, but if it means pursuing my dream it may be worth it. I don't want to get stuck paying off debt for the rest of my life, but I also don't want to get stuck with a sub-par occupation because I was afraid to take a risk.

Either way, it's a fun fucking game and believe me, you will go broke if you're not rich, so there's always room to grow ;p

Play sealed draft tournies. I don't know how it is where you live, but here in the closest city there are two sealed draft tournaments every weekend. Everyone pays in and buys enough boosters to make a deck - then you pick a card and pass to the left, over and over until everyone has a deck. Makes it fair and provides an interesting element. Some launch parties also have sealed deck tournaments - everyone just gets a starter deck.

I prefer these formats because I don't have the money or the time to really refine an excellent deck. It lets new and more casual players get into it without breaking the bank or dumping their girlfriend/boyfriend.

Response to: I'm learning Japanese Posted February 3rd, 2014 in General

I took an introductory level class in Japanese in college. I knew enough from anime and manga to basically skip it but it was good to get a truly structured foundation.

Let me tell you, if you plan on actually learning the language the right way, you are going to spend a long time on learning mora and grammar. You have an initial 104 symbols to learn, plus a few sets of special symbols. It's a long process, but it is worth it. The Japanese language is a beautiful written language, so don't cheat yourself and just learn to speak it. I have only learned a few kanji so I can't read or write most things very well, but then again I only had an interest in learning the basics. Moving on to Korean now.

Anyway, I'd like to point out that there is nothing wrong with being interested in Japanese culture due to watching a lot of anime or reading manga. It is a HUGE part of their popular culture, especially with music infused through OPs/EDs/OSTs in general. I think the natural next move from there is to get interested in Japanese games (not JP games made for an American audience). Spend some time learning about the rest of the culture too, though. Japan is a pretty fantastic place with interesting customs and history.

Supergandhi, I have to admit - I thought you were annoying and pretentious at first, but you're starting to grow on me. I think I have a crush on you.

In regards to the link posted in the OP, any artist who doesn't understand the difference between additive & subtractive color needs to spend a couple more years in school. I thought just about everyone knew that CMYK was used for printing. I guess it's not as common knowledge as I suspected.

ALSO.... An interesting thing to note: some printers can actually print in RGB. The only reason for this is to keep true to document colors when converting web to print. Of course, the colors don't come out under the same mixture ratios - that's impossible - but the CMYK formula is compensated to roughly match what you see on the screen.

Don't let the actions and words of others have an effect on you that makes you crazy. Learn to separate yourself from the bullshit. As long as you know who you are, and that you are innocent, nobody can touch you. No matter what they say will never be true, and you will know the truth. The only person you need to prove yourself to is yourself.

Goddamn you and your reasonable voice of reason bullshit! Now I have to dump my girlfriend, abandon my family, and live in the wilderness where there are no filthy humans to bother me. Or at least Canada. You are quite right - I hate people too. I have really grown to just HATE humans. They make me angry with their backstabbing and masquerading. But that is just it. I never used to care. I spent the first 18 or so years of my life around clones and fakes, and clones of fakes, and still just went about my merry business. I can still remember a day when I was the one giving out the advice you did in your last paragraph.

Now I begin to wonder if backstabbing and gossip are other people's forms of dealing with anger.

And yes, I do write from time to time.

Now that you mention it, when I get angry the first thing I do is take care of responsibilities. After the cat incident I mentioned, I sat down with my laptop and began finishing an assignment. When I get in a fight I go hunting for freelance jobs or clean my apartment. Maybe that's my current method.

A long time friend of mine delved in the art of Tai Chi for a while. I don't know much about it. Then again I don't know much about Aikido either, or any martial art for that matter. I think I'd be more interested in a Korean martial art since I am already deeply invested in Korean culture, but I have an open mind.

I think you nailed it when you said that you have more memories to deal with - it's like each subsequent episode of anger shortens the fuse or strengthens the blast. And yeah, I was a huge jerk at one point in my life. Now I'm just a moderate sized jerk. I mostly get angry at stupid things lately - for example, this morning my cat was chewing on something rather expensive in my room and as I stood up to stop her I hit my knee and was pissed off for the next five minutes. Something like that would have never even bothered me in the past. There are some chronic sources of anger I know I could remove myself from, but I'm not really interested in that. I am mostly just curious how other people deal with their anger and if there is a general trend of the world becoming more angry over time.

I know, turning to alcohol was really stupid but I felt out of options. I did develop a taste aversion to beer from that though, so it had a plus side. Sometimes it's not easy or feasible to step away from the source of anger, though. And I'd rather find a way to subdue anger than avoid it - you know?

@ Cyber - I've been considering martial arts, there is a local Sensei who teaches Aikido at the college I graduated from and I hear he's a pretty cool dude.

Dealing with anger Posted January 21st, 2014 in General

Hello Newgrounds,

I would like your opinion on a subject that has recently become close to me in many ways.

How do you deal with your anger? How has this changed over the years?

For as long as I can remember and up until my first year of college, I was one of the most level-headed and docile people I had ever come across. Nothing made me angry, or even the slightest bit irritated, and I was always able to see the bright side of things. I never cursed, and when I was mean to people, it was for fun. Now a graduate of a four year degree program I find myself to be a bitter vindictive asshole with little patience and even less optimism.

The thing is - I really don't have a way to deal with anger. I've never had to deal with anger before. I used to deal with sadness or anxiety by playing video games or exercising to keep my mind off of it until it subsided, but that doesn't work with anger. It just festers and grows and spouts until it runs out of fuel. And as an artist, I've tried turning to my craft for this, but drawing only serves to perpetuate my emotions. Talking to people about it has the same effect. Hell, I've even tried just getting drunk, but to no avail.

I see a lot of angry people around here, so perhaps this thread can serve as some introspection for you as well.

Have at it.

If you make an armature before adding clay, you can make tall, skinny figures and creatures. It also saves you a lot of clay and makes your sculpts noticeably lighter.

Also, depending on how thick your figures are, you can try hollowing out the middle and top sections and leave the base heavier. This is not really recommended for tiny figures but it worked marvelously for my last attempt at sculpture. Alternatively you could also consider making future models in specific stances that will allow for greater balance (i.e. legs spread slightly further apart)... I'm a fan of the former method.

Cool to see a traditional 3d artist around these parts.
