I think you pretty much nailed it. Just throw Pokemon in there somewhere and we're golden.

Response to: People finding your NG posts Posted 10 days ago in General

No one I know cares enough to scour the internet for my personal profiles and look through my posts or my art. I can barely get my friends to look at my drawings and animations as it is. Furthermore, I pretty much act the same on NG as I do in real life. I'm not worried.

Response to: Voice Acting Peeves! Posted 2 weeks ago in Voice Acting

I've never had any problems with any of my VAs (not a VA myself) but I get incredibly annoyed when people ask why I interview/hire people to do voices. "It's just someone talking into a microphone. Anyone can do that" they say. But in reality, a good VA can make the difference between a decent game and an incredible game - the same is even truer for animation.

My worst annoyance of all though is when people comment on demo reels and say things about the VA's appearance. Last time I ventured into the comments section on YouTube, someone was calling one of my favorite VAs anorexic and said she should eat all the cake she was singing about. Kinda made me want to murder someone. (Legal disclaimer: I didn't)

Yay! My first thought when I saw this was Piper, so I'm amused that it was her idea haha. Interwebs high fives for everyone.

Also glad to see dot dot dot in your post, that's possibly my favorite thing of all time... And was one of the first things I showed my girlfriend to get her interested in NG.

Response to: How much do you tip? Posted 2 weeks ago in General

I round up to the next dollar, and if it's delivery in the winter, I add a dollar. When I get food it's always a lot, so my tips are actually kinda shitty. I don't eat at sit-in restaurants so I don't feel guilty.

When I built my computer in summer of 2013, I was so afraid that I fucked something up and that when I press the power button that the computer won't boot. It did boot and everything was fine. Handling the CPU still makes me nervous, though.

I feel ya on that one. I've only built one computer and it was a clunky hunk of junk made out of spare parts. I'm terrified of screwing up like $600 worth of actual useful parts. I really need to get over that fear cuz I'm sick of paying full retail for my new computers.

What are some things you used to be nervous about, but are no longer?

Here are a few of mine to get started...

1. Talking to clients. As a freelancer I have to talk to a lot of people, and I used to extremely over-analyze everything before I said it. I've actually lost a few jobs because of that. In fact I used to be terrified of talking to people in general. Now sometimes I feel like I could do with some more restraint.

2. Having a kid. I always talked about wanting to have kids but it was always more of a "one day" thing. When I realized it was going to happen for real I started freaking out, even though it was planned, but now I'm just sick of waiting and want my damn kid to be here already.

3. Teaching. I've been a teaching assistant, lab assistant, studio aid, and substitute teacher, and the first 20 or so times I had to actually teach I was terrified. In fact the first time I started sweating and had to leave the room. The last three times I was a TA I totally rocked it. In my last position I even ended up in the news!

4. Showing my work. I think all artists go through this at various stages. At first I was afraid of showing other people in general. Then I was afraid of submitting things online. Then I was afraid of exhibiting my work in public galleries. Then showing clients. I wonder what will be next.

As I'm not from the US,I just can't fully understand how the incident that started as African-Americans fighting for their own rights could turn into something like this, so I would gladly appreciate it if anyone could further explain this.

Here's my view and understanding of it. Know first that my education on the topic is limited to basic high school and college history classes and a couple of advanced culture classes that were mostly focused on women but brought up ideas of discrimination as a whole. Also note that I'm talking specifically about black people here, not any other race. Racism vs Mexicans, French, Canadians, etc. is an entirely different story in the US.

People have been oppressed for thousands of years - it's just a fact of life. The reason racism is so persistent in the US partially stems from how it was spread in the slavery era. Whites and blacks alike actually believed all the crap slave owners were feeding them about god-given rights, black people being born subjugated, the notion of servitude being holy, etc. This carried on for several generations and it became seriously embedded in slave culture. Of course there were some who understood it was complete bullshit but that's not the point.

Moving on, after slavery "ended" plenty of people still had this mentality on both sides. It's similar to how some women didn't want the right to vote because they didn't trust themselves or their fellow females with freedom. There was somewhat of a civil clash of values between people who were reluctant to accept "freedom" and those who were eager to embrace it.

Fast forward to the late 80's. By this point, almost everyone who was trying to justify subjugation flipped to the other side and was now pissed off about it. They joined the ranks of those who thought the subjugators should have "their turn" and put themselves on a pedestal of entitlement and superiority. To an extent, it was necessary for the advancement of equality for the notion of black pride/power to form, considering that white people still had rampant racism up until like 2010 (and it's still pretty bad now). The problem is that people took it the wrong way and took it too far, and it transformed into the problem of racism that you see today.

Basically it's an issue of who wants to be on top. Rather than seeking true equality, where everyone is on the same level, white closet racists quietly still feel superior and reluctantly pretend to be nice, while black racists still can't accept the fact that people are just people and they are not in fact different, for better or worse. There are plenty of actual non-racist people, but sadly they get drowned out by the idiots and racism seems much more prevalent than it really is.

Because I'm a fucking MIB agent sent from the future to stop the goddamn annihilation of the human race and the only way is to get a job stocking shelves at your shitty unorganized and understaffed store.

Ugh. I'm so glad I'm done with menial employment.

Your vision problem sounds eerily similar to diabetic retinopathy. I'd definitely go to a doctor. Could just be a nutritional deficiency. Don't worry yourself over it until you've spoken with a medical professional though, stress only amplifies complications.

Are you diabetic by any chance?

Response to: Do you hsve curbside recycling? Posted 1 month ago in General

I live in an apartment complex, so we have a huge dumpster for recyclables (non plastic - those go in a separate bin). My last place only had a tiny can for recycling which was unfortunate. I bring all of my deposits to the recycling center right down the road from our apartment every month (we only really drink bottled water, no soda or anything).

I think recycling should be mandatory to some extent. It's a simple thing and takes little more than a few seconds of thought to do. It's always been entirely optional everywhere I've lived (NY).

As for upcycling - sometimes. I reuse plastic bags from the store for a variety of things, mostly as garbage bags for my small trash cans and to clean up after my dog when I take her for a walk. Old boxes become storage containers for clothes or crap we don't really use (they're also good toys for my cat). I started using coffee cans recently as water cups for painting.
