How can you get two or more distorted lead guitars to sit comfortably in a mix together, in other words, both guitars can be distinctly heard.
I'm working on a Cave Story cover at the moment and here's a snippet of what I mean (mushed together):

Here's an example of what I want to achieve:

Help?
I definitely agree, maybe I should have clarified a bit more. Always use distortion sparingly, as said above, as it could harm more than help depending on the circumstance.
Since your focused on bass playing and your looking for heavy/punchy sounds I have a technique that might help you that I learned from Family Jules 7x's recording series.
Once you've finished creating your bass tone (w/o distortion) and have everything recorded and ready to go you can try duplicating the track with the same effects you had from before (tone, EQ and everything else) then adding distortion in it's appropriate spot according to your signal chain, I use bass overdrive from Pod Farm with the bass nob turned all the way down. In review, one track with distortion, one without. Once both tracks are played over all of the other instruments the distortion will have disappeared and the bass guitar will stand out in the mix a whole lot more, sounding more punchy, heavy and present.
If you are having Pod Farm trouble feel free to ask me. I use that software all the time.
I usually like to start from scratch when constructing guitar tones ( I have no experience with synths) mostly because it's easier to get a desired sound from the beginning of the creation process rather than building off of an already made preset and it's also easier to create a sound that will complement the other instruments within the piece.
This topic is a bit different from the others in that I am looking not only for interesting video game musical compositions, but I am also looking for music that would work well for any rock/metal covers.
It doesn't matter what game it's from as long as the song was made specifically for that game or series.
If anyone has any interesting contributions feel free to lay it on me.
Hey, thanks for the reply, this is some good advice and I'll take it into consideration.
So far I'm pleased with the way my current project sounds and it's nearing it's final stages with just a bit more recording and mixing on a few tracks.
The problem I'm having is the way in which each headphone, speaker set, or monitor on the market seems to be configured differently. So far I've completed most of my project using the Audio Technica ath-m30's then I switched over to the Bose AE2's just too see how drastic of a difference in sound I would receive. The output I receive from the AE2's muddies up my audio too much for me to let it slide.
I can't find any definitive solution to this problem, none of the equalization I've done to my tracks seems to be the source and I can't figure out how to improve the audio on one headset without hurting it on the other.
I'm not expecting any definitive answer either for I'm sure there is no one absolute solution to this problem, but what I am looking for is how you audio masterminds out there have dealt with this complication before and if you could help me or share your experience I would greatly appreciate it.
If you think the source of the problem may be a result of the headphones themselves or the way in which I record please let me know and if you need more specific information about my set up please feel free to ask and I will post it.
Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help me out and if this topic has already been posted before I apologize, it's hard to find related subjects since there doesn't seem to be one specific name for this dilemma.
