Well, now you have. That article talks about the US and the UK.

And if we specifically look at the US, the states with the highest levels of church attendance also have (by far) the highest violent crime rates. Unsurprisingly, the states with the lowest levels of church attendance have violent crime rates which are well below the national average. Now, at this point I am not suggesting that the cause of these crimes is in almost all cases religion (and even if that were true, it isn't my point anyway), but what these statistics do prove is that Atheism doesn't lead to chaos and murder and destruction, so the idea that religion somehow provides 'control' and 'order' is bullshit, because if it did, the states with higher levels of religious interest would have similairly low crime rates to the more Atheistic states.

Except that article never discussed social class, culture, etc. it simply bashed religion w/o looking at the other variable involved. Back in the day when there was virtually no moral development among anybody, you needed to be religious or else go fucking insane because you didn't have the moral development to be able to handle "THERE IS NO FUCKING GOD".

Hahaha, yeah, when someone has the burden of religion breathing down their neck they should look on the bright side and realise that they can 'hope' that it will go away. Praise the lord.

Yea, that is completely the point. Thx for agreeing with me.

So you're saying it's better to live your life being constantly lied to? You said yourself that the afterlife may not be true, and yet you're happy for people to go about their lives, tolerating all kinds of shit, and turning the other cheek because they are convinced that heaven awaits them even though you can't prove it? What nonsense. All this does is support the argument that religion brainwashes people. You've just proved my point in what you just said. Incredible.

But you never proved that it doesn't exist. And if you believe it doesn't exist than really NOTHING in this universe matters, so why spoil the fun for them if they don't benefit from being made aware?

What you've just said could easily be applied to Communism; that it provides a means of control and order. Yeah, it does, but it involves brainwashing people and forcing them to behave in a certain way out of fear, which is the same way that religion thrives.

Nobody is forcing anybody to do anything. Also, i have never heard of more religious places having a higher crime rate than other places save the middle east.

Religion is often utilised by people who are terminally ill as a source of hope and comfort, which is entirely understandable and I fully empathise with anyone lying in a hospital bed who turns to 'god' for hope and whatever else. In that sense, yes, religion provides hope and encouragement, but for the rest of society, it's really just a burden.

but it also provides them hope. having burden does not necessarily mean you don't have hope. Religions brings in the point of saying: "Don't worry guys!! There IS something after death!!" which may or may not be true.

Yet you said the entirety of religion is the problem. Don't set double standards after the fact.

If you knew anything about the Catholic church and development of society from 300 AD to about the end of the middle ages, you would immediately take back EVERYTHING you just said.

Religion primarily does two things:

It provides a means of control and order.
It provides hope and encouragement.

You're getting economically raped!! Posted July 21st, 2009 in Politics

And who is the perpetrator you might ask? Its Nixon, thats right, Nixon. Even after his death he is still ass-ramming your wallet to this day. Why you might ask? Its because of a little thing we have going called a "fiat monetary system".

THIS should explain it better than i can.

Basically whats going on is that your standard of living is being robbed (or has been robbed) by the government. Inflation is their worst and most secret tax they have put on the American people. Why does nobody react to this? Because Americans like doing what they do best: Throw their rights away to give emergency power to the government in times of chaos caused by the government. Hence the whole "boom" and "bust" story of the 21st century. On top of all this, the government is so cunning that they handed off our debt to other countries KNOWING that it wont mean a damn thing in 50 years. Think about it, if China holds billions of dollars of debt now, in the future that would only mean as much as thousands mean today. Everything from the "consumer based economy", "the multiplier effect", "booms and busts", "Keynesian Economics" all work together so snug to keep this HUGE economic scam alive. The only thing the government has done wrong recently was exposing it to the American people.

Who is going to profit: the government, and the early investors who stocked up on REAL resources
Who is going to pay: The people who are currently being exploited by this system, i.e. the average Joe

Again America, im going to ask you to do something you are not accustomed to doing, FIGHT FOR YOUR DAMN RIGHTS.

Thank you ever so much for clarifying your ignorance and/or apathy.

You didn't pay attention to my point at all. My point was that what you were saying was pointless. You are clearly not addressing the issue at hand and are trying to play stupid semantics. Post something intelligent and/or actually contribute or just don't post.

Samurai-Mind, Body, Soul
Medium-Cosmic, Spirit, Psychic

Do you mean they changed their music for the purpose of selling more albums? Because I don't really see much of a difference between albums like Revolutions per Minute and Appeal to Reason, other than the latter being more energetic.

Also, I just got The Sufferer and the Witness, which is IMO their best piece of work, but not their best album, if you know what I'm saying.

Im just saying that they have a lot more of a mainstream sound than they did before simply for the purpose of having a broader audience. The former albums had a much more hard rock sound, the newer albums have a much more punk rock sound to them. To me this just seems....... sellout-ish.

No one is idolizing him, we are just saying that what he did was relatively normal compared to other bureaucracies. And im sure a coward wouldn't have the balls to march into Russia, Eastern Europe, and France......... oh wait.

Response to: Politics forum thread making guide Posted July 10th, 2009 in Politics

How about flaming and trolling? I know there are some jerks who just make threads in this forum for the intention of trying to epically troll as many people as possible since about 99.9999999% of people who lurk/post in this forum are hotheaded and willing to pounce on the slightest logical flaw and sometimes w/o realizing that its just a troll. Also what about topics like "________ suck" or "Fuck _____" whose purposes are purely to attack one group or another disregarding if it has logic or not. All that ever erupts into is some incredibly stupid flame war which loses all logical taste after a while.

Also, if you want to make a sticky, how about we start with the unofficial general forum rules which have been sloshed around in mod blogs (Zerok's blog) and obscure, out of sight topics (Sanjay's rant on celebrity death threads)?

This is where the peer reviewed part comes into play. You wouldn't believe the standards that a journal has to pass to be considered scientifically true. There are a good number of people that have to look at the journal.
