Oh, another thing, how do you guys feel about the jump? I got a couple of comments about it? I'll change if more people agree. I need to preserve the height of the jump, the speed isn't as important and the drop rate can pretty much be whatever.

Also, as for performance, does it "jerk" at all? I noticed it isn't as smooth in the broswer. I'm thinking about doing the final in Flash 10 if the compiler is faster. Does anyone know?

I also like to hear what you think about the fairness/difficulty. I want it to be a challenge this will be the standard difficulty. I already marked a few of rough spots that are a little cheap.

Hope that made sense, good game.

Yeah, I know what your talking about. I'll see what I can do. Sometimes I wonder if the player deserves a break or not.
I'm actually going to have the gellies load later too in that spot after watching my friends play I saw how frustrating it looked.

I'm glad people seem to be enjoying it! I uploaded the repaired version using flashes mouse function so the Mac(possibly UNIX based) systems can enjoy it.

As for the skull-zombie, I hope you guys find it acceptable that he's a bit weird. That's actually the first graphic I did btw. The character makes me smile.

Also, I do wish to apologize as I'm not refering to flashes that reach the front page or the top of the portal. A lot of people have created some wonderful things and I realize now my language wasn't actually clear. I refer, again, to the majority of flashes that are released that people don't even see.

Response to: Play My Great Flash Game Demo! Posted October 25th, 2009 in Game Development

No, I did not mean to be cocky. I wanted to get people's attention. There are a lot of flash games that are created very half-assedly and people often times post things on forums without really putting effort into their work.

Okay, some good comments thus far.

As for the code, I know I didn't spend a whole lot of time on it and I recognize some of its flaws. I come from a Com Sci. background, but I do admit a bit of haste in my coding so i can devote time to the art and design aspects.

Sorry about the mouse, and you are correct. I did use "1" for the input. I'll fixed it later.

Response to: Play My Great Flash Game Demo! Posted October 25th, 2009 in Game Development

Just click the left mouse-button and you're good to go! :) Numbers 1-4 and the Mouse Wheel can be used to change weapons. Each weapon is good for different things.

Also, I failed to mention the flying wing things upgrade your weapons(only one time). Die and you loose the upgrades.

I don't want to overhype this by calling it "great" but seeing how most Flashes are complete crap...I had to get your attention somehow. Anyway, I set out to create one of the best looking flash games on the web. You can judge for yourselves :).

You play as Reuben as he tries to stop a coup de force and prevent the coming of melovalent forces and a dark age.

Four weapons, each upgradable, each unique. Lots of action and lots of fun. Enjoy!

Comments/suggestions welcome. Also, I'm not sure on the speed with the embedden HTML it seems slower and I'm looking into that. Is Flash 10's compiler faster?

Here's the link. Hopefully Angefile doesn't crap up.

Anyway, enjoy the game and let me know what you think :)

Hosting for A Flash Beta? Posted October 10th, 2009 in Game Development

Hey Newgrounds,

I was looking around for an approapriate place to host a flash game demo. I've spent a lot of time on this project and would like to see people's reactions before continuing my work and releasing it.

-Thank You

Here's a picture of it.

Response to: Bitmap Caching? Posted September 20th, 2008 in Game Development

Thanks for the support/compliment.

Right I figured the filters since it converts the entire movie clip to one image, but the option to turn bitmap caching on is more appropriate in this case.

But this still leaves me with the color problem, when the root undergoes the transformation the level has to update. So maybe what I'll do is set the script up to disable caching when an explosion goes off(which is what using the color transformations.) Other suggestions are still welcome of course.

Response to: can I recover .swf to .fla? Posted September 20th, 2008 in Game Development

Yes, you need a decompiler. Sothink's SWF Decompiler works well:

http://www.sothink.com/product/flashdeco mpiler/index.htm?gclid=CNf_1ZHd65UCFQXGs goddHDKeg

Just bare in mind the library will be different than the file before compiling. So it will look sloppy and some graphical assets may not be entirely intact.

Bitmap Caching? Posted September 20th, 2008 in Game Development

Hey,

I'm making an graphic heavy game. I'm running into efficiency problem due to too many png images. For now I just applied a blur(of 0) to the group of pngs (the level in this case) which fixed the problem however. I use color transformation on the entire stage when explosions occur when the transformation is applied the game slows significantly.

Is there a way to cache the group of pngs and avoid this problem somehow. I'm assuming Flash is converting the movie clip of the pngs everytime the color transformation is run.

Here's the script for the color transformation:
var tar = new Color(_root);
var blow = {ra:brt, rb:0, ga:brt, gb:0, ba:brt, bb:0};
tar.setTransform(blow);

Also here's a picture of the game.

Ah, thanks a million. This is actually just what I'm trying to do. Language? why English, of course, j/k. I plan to do this is C++, I just started with it but it's nothing foriegn. I noticed the source is in C++ too so that's a plus or rather a plus plus, nuck nuck nuck.

People already answered you: just google for the steps solving the Rubik and program it.

oh, gotcha, but I wanted to know if my idea would work, but I'll start with the tried and tested algorithms, I suppose, I just don't want to make a program that does what a human does anyway, I like to find shortcuts.Ideally the cube can always be solved in less than 28 moves right?

By orientation I ment that all the colors could seem that they were on the right side but they might be in the wrong location, like a blue faced cube with white on the top might not be lined up with the white side of the cube.

Those people are using lubricated cubes, they're not the "out-of-the-box" kind from competitions. At a competition, they give you one out of the box, and the world-record is 30 seconds or something like that. 4 seconds is pre-edited -_-

lol, okay, I was just joking since it's more work coding it. I'm doing this for a programming challenge. So I'd appreciate advice on wether or not my theory will work b/c I can't currently think of a better way, thanks.

Rubik's Cube solver... Posted December 11th, 2007 in Programming

I came to the conclusion that the rubiks cube isn't worth the effort to solve so I've been working on a program to do it for me. Anyway my question is, will the rubiks cube be solved if one colored side is put in order if each block is in its proper orientation and position? If not, If the program solves the face sides in an order(red to blue to green whatever) will that solve it? Should i just ignore the color concept and solve it differently, as in using block numbers to develope some system? Thanks for any help! :)

Help Critiquing an 18 Month Game

Hey everyone,

I could use some help critiqueing a Flash project that I really thought was something but then recieved mediocre reviews. So I'd like some help in deciding how the game could be better for a possible re-release or sequel. I'm giving you the codes so you can get through everything if you have trouble. I recomment the third level above all.

Link: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/375910

Hold "l" before the Main Menu appairs to open level select.
Hold "e" after hitting play to start with 30 lives.
On the Pause Menu. Press "Tab+C" and enter the following codes.

Codes:

mortalitas: Kills you
vita: +10 lives
deus: God mode
telum: Infinite ammo and Grenades
panton: All ammo and grenades with unlimited ammo
valetudo: Adds one health chip

Below is a picture as proof that I actually have some nice visuals, what i'm apparently lacking is other stuff. Thank you so much for you time.

This is frustrating me a lot, simple because its almost out of my control.
Working with my upcoming game Black Epoch(on the Alpha Page) I noticed that the preloader does not load until the game is 99% loaded. This is worthless.

The game is 15 frames long about half actually have graphics.

I noticed it is set to preload 584 frames. This is really bugging me and I can't release the game until this is fixed. I can't send the FLA file of course this late in development.

Thank you for any help!

Preloader bug! Not a Noob question.

Black Epoch Demo Posted February 15th, 2007 in Game Development

-Skip my tragic story if your impatent and go down one paragraph.-
After creating and submiting a game to NG for the sole perpose of being able to put an entry on the Alpha page I had the misfortune of not knowing the resictions. I created my page thinking I could edit it so now I'm stuck with out of date pictures on it and can't create a new page. I'll have my cousin submit the new Alpha page tomorrow.

Anyway 16 months in development, going from zero knowledge of Flash or programming. Behond my greatest flash creation! Or at least a demo which could pass off as a finished game. Anyway expect a great story!

I've heard my preloader doesn't load until it completed. Is this true? How's the difficulty? I think its moderate but then again I live and breathe Contra and beat all 7 levels of Shattered Soldier.

Thanks enjoy. Expect three levels of this by the end of April.

lol. Okay call me stupid but I made the Alpha page for my game however I only have old screenshots and no swf so now I'm ready to put some new pictures and a demo up. *sigh* can I at least delete it? Thanks. The game is Black Epoch if your interested but grr I need to put the goods on that page.

I'm a bit lost in what you want to know. So forgive me if I'm insaulting you here. But anyway the pen tool is for a Wacom Tablet. Depending on which model you have depends on its features(the more expensive one has a tilt feature).

Response to: Removing all clips on stage? Posted February 9th, 2007 in Game Development

Hey thanks. So could you use a for...in loop to apply filters such as blur to everything? I'm a bit unfamiliar with "For...in" but I give it a try,

Response to: Need programming help!!!_!!! Posted February 8th, 2007 in Game Development

Yeah. It took me a long while to learn. www.gotoandplay.it is an excellent resource(check out the space shooting tut.) Just be persistant with it. I don't know if you can learn on your own like me but you should get it eventually.

Removing all clips on stage? Posted February 8th, 2007 in Game Development

I wondering if there is a script that can remove all movies clips on the stage(all are attached). I've been having issues with this considering there are sooo many clips to remove. Anyway I'd appreciate any help thank you! Oh, and look forward to a demo release of my game Black Epoch at the end of the week or next(depends on some graphical work that needs to be done). :)

Radian based shooting system? Posted January 17th, 2007 in Game Development

Hello,
Now that Armor Games 5 is up I really need your guys help to complete my project.
Now I've been working on a gun that rotates relative to player position. The problem is the coorindinate point has to be a on the pivot but the bullet has to load at the end of the gun. I'm requsting help to fix this issue. So is there a good way to load the bullet at a fixed point at the end or screw the rotation to in sense create false coordinate point? Please help, thank you.

Here is the FLA file, the graphics and engine are striped to the bare bones of what is needed.
