I think the best thing to do then would be to go back to basics.
Work some more on your pencil work. Since you're more comfortable with that route, you can practice your drawing techniques there, practice on your shading. Post those here to get some more feedback.
Then, once you've gotten the hang of it there, translate that into working on Photoshop.

Well, I've only coloured it with the touchpad, but yes.

No mouse?... what are you using!?... and it shouldn't matter what program or equipment you have, where you apply the shading should still be the same regardless

Oh! If its where the shading is that's the problem, I really don't know what I'm doing

When it comes to shading, I know no other techniques than the lasso tool and fill bucket.
Its obvious I'm just a pencil artist, and without a mouse, I'm not sure I have too many options for techniques of shading...

I saw the move "Wreck-It Ralph" twice in theatres and I can't stop drawing pictures of Vanellope Von Schweetz and video games lately. I've made three so far: each apparently getting better with time.
