Response to: Background Artist available here! Posted February 13th, 2013 in Collaboration

Hey, I'm in need of a BG artist, but I've already got some BG's, all you need to do is digitalize and color it. The project has a full team already, but our artist is very busy with college and is lacking time. Check out this Facebook page, and tell me if you're interested :>

A big novel collab! Posted March 14th, 2012 in Collaboration

Hello to everyone who's reading this! I have got a history around 90% done, just needs a bit of reviewing after I finish it and I'm currently looking for people to help me make my dream come true! The project I have in mind is a light novel game, where the player just reads and from time to time, decides an action for the main character to take, changing the course of the history or reaching a bad end.

This quick explanation might have sounded a bit too boring, but to whoever's interested, I am sending a quick summary of my history for you to read. It's nothing more than around 4-5 pages, though the history itself has almost 100 (The main course only, without taking into account the bad ends in the history)

What I need is the following:

An artist: All you need to do draw is the characters and some backgrounds. I have got some hand drawings my friend made for you to use as a reference. I do not require animations. Also, if you are able to, you may take a picture of a real place and turn all its colors into either gray or blue instead of drawing the background.

IMPORTANT: I need you to be able to draw anime-like characters, as in the picture I uploaded here. I'm not looking for any kind of art.

P.S: You will need to draw the same characters a lot, but just making very few changes, for example, their expression or arm position.

A programmer: The game itself is very simple. It's mostly about go to and play. However, I'd like for it to have medals and to create caches in the player's computers to store data. For example, "player completed route number 1, so, enable route number 2"
Saving would also be very useful. Doesn't need to be exactly on the page the reader stopped but atleast in the same chapter or day.

----------------------

Now, a quick FAQ:

Q: What makes me belive that you won't run away with my art / coding?
A: I do not know. If you have some way to have me proof that I won't, then I'd gladly do it for you.

Q: How much will we earn?
A: I do not own a credit card, thus, I cannot pay you via paypal. I myself have no interest in the money, because my family is fairly rich. I'm doing this because it's really what I like to do. Your payment will be 50% of the revenue for the artist and 50% for the programmer. Though I might have to pay my friend musician that will make us the BGM's, so it might be around 35% to 40%.

Q: When will you send me your summary?
A: As soon as you show interest. You don't need to show any compromise with my project.

Q: You surely look like you trust too much other people by giving away your history like that. It makes me feel like you will instead, steal us.
A: The summary I will be giving away is nothing but all events related very quickly. Also. there are lots of stuff that isnt related in it, and the history itself is much more interesting than the summary, so I don't really need to fear anything. If you show compromise with my project, I will give the fully detailed summary, which explains all the events. (For that, I will require a bit of your work for me to take a look. Some drawings or games will do.)

Q: I really do not trust you. I need to be sure that you won't run away with my art / coding!
A: I can give you my facebook profile for you to take a look. There, I have written lots of histories in "My Notes". I do not really know if that will make you less doubtful of me, but hey, atleast I tried, huh?

if you have more questions, either PM me or reply to this tread!

A big novel collab!

Response to: Need an Experienced Flash artist? Posted March 7th, 2012 in Collaboration

Alright, I will ask Marky about that.

Response to: Need an Experienced Flash artist? Posted March 7th, 2012 in Collaboration

Oh, and I can also make a portuguese translation for the game (my native language) and share it in brazil's gaming sites. I guess that would bring you more profit, wouldn't it?

Response to: Need an Experienced Flash artist? Posted March 7th, 2012 in Collaboration

Hehe, don't worry :3 I am now translating the history.

About the "huge hit" well, I've got a friend here that is a musician. He started to learn a bit of programming and made a really really reaaaalllly strange game. It was one of those old-school where ur a space ship and lots of aliens run down from the top of the screen and u just shoot at them. He told me he got $200 from just that.. (Though I don't think he only put it on NG, prob on more sites)

Also, he is kind of famous here, his name's Mark Spark --> http://markyspark.newgrounds.com/

You might want to ask him how much this API thingy makes. Also, you are free to share the game to as many sites as you like. The more, the better, right? ($$ xD)

He told me I can use any of his songs too in any of my projects, as long as he is in the credits :3

Response to: Need an Experienced Flash artist? Posted March 7th, 2012 in Collaboration

At the top of the screen, next to your user name, the third button with a "P". Its the project system tool, take a look at it!

Response to: Need an Experienced Flash artist? Posted March 7th, 2012 in Collaboration

Cool but, NG pays however develops a game and publishes it, doesnt it? You'd have the whole sharing with you, I'd just give you the history and you put it in the game!
Theres the API thingy, but I don't really know how it works. I've just taken a look at the "Project development" tool here, and it has an automatic revenue sharing or whatsoever o_o

Response to: Need an Experienced Flash artist? Posted March 7th, 2012 in Collaboration

Hmm... By the way, we'd need to find a programmer too if you are interested.

Response to: Need an Experienced Flash artist? Posted March 7th, 2012 in Collaboration

Hey, I am a writer and I have got a story that's around 90% done, though it still needs a translation to english (But that should be really quick)

I am planning on making a visual novel about it, I wrote 3 stories that are all connected together, and I'm planning to make each of them a game.

Could you possibly help me? I am looking for anime-like art, or just something that looks gentle.

I have NO interest in money for two reasons:

I do not live in the US, and I do not have a Credit Card, so there's no way i'd be able to receive anything.
My family is fairly rich, so I do this because I like.

I'd gadly give you the full story to read and see if you like it. Also, you can be the owner of the project. I won't request that you send me your art, I don't want you to think that you might be stolen or something.
I just really want my story to get published, It's one of my dreams :3

The Spheresof Light:a Winter Breeze Posted September 3rd, 2011 in Writing

Hello everyone! This is a book i'm writing, which takes place in a medium-sized city in Japan.
I want to share it with you all before I publish it! If you like thriller, drama and being hit by heart warming feelings, then this is the right history for you!

Oh, and I'm planning to make a Visual Novel of this history. If you are an artist or programmer, I have some work for you!

I made two resumes of it here. One that has the least spoilers, while the 2nd has more. (A lot more)

Resume 1:

The main character is a girl named Tsukishima Sayuri. She wakes up in a hospital with total amnesia and has great difficulty to move her body. After a few days, her family takes her back to her house. Her school life starts to slowly go back to normal, however, she often has two different dreams.
The first one, she is "at nowhere" (That "nowhere" has a name). It is an infinite blue horizon, even devoid of ground. The only things there, is her and a small sphere of light.

The second dream is about a shadow, and every time she has this nightmare, the shadow does more dangerous things to her.
As time passes, those dreams become more dangerous, and she starts to fear them. A few days later, a strange gentleman arrives at her home. He rings the door bell, and ss he spots her when she opens the door, he makes a surprised face, and hugs her in tears.
Confused, Sayuri asks him who he is, and he reveals a lot of things to her.

--------

Resume 2: WARNING! SPOILERRRSSSSSS!!!

(I'm not going to say the same things that were in the previous resume, so I'll skip them.)

My history is about HOPE, LOVE, and the "power" of people's wishes, of their faith.

The sphere of light she sees in almost every dream, is a person from her past, which she helped to achieve his deepest wish. Because of that, as soon as that person died, he became Sayuri's "Guardian". Willing to repay her for bringing him happines in his short life, he sacrifices a lot of things in order to help Sayuri. (And now I ask you, what does someone's soul owns to be spent in this "sacrifice"? ;) )

The shadow is a "manifestation" of xxxxxx. Something that haunts her for her past deeds.

There's also a reason for why I gave this name to my history.

------------------

Act 1: Rediscovering the World
Chapter 1: Recovering the Consciousness

?? / ?? / ????

A world... A strange place... A vast and curiously, blue. But... There isn't anything in this... "World"... I don't even know if I can call it like this. I have no idea why I am here.

I look below, but there is no ground. Im floating.

I stare everywhere, hoping to find something, but noticing that I am really alone here, I start to fear this place.

"I want to get the hell out of here..."

Suddenly, something starts to shine in front of me. A tiny sphere of light slowly takes form.

"Huh?"

A sphere as strange as this place is in front of me, but somehow, I dont fear it. In fact, it makes me feel calm. My fears quickly disappear with it's presence, and, for some reason, it starts to float around me.

Continuously staring at it with curiosity, I finally try to touch it.

My hand goes through it, but at the same time, I feel a cosy feeling in the palm of my hand.

"What could all of this mean...?"

My mind is filled with questions that seem that won't be answered any soon.

I decide to touch it again, however, as I stretch my hand, a huge explosion of light blinds me.

... ...

...

I open my eyes.

----------------------------

?? / ?? / ????

With great difficulty, I try to see what is around me but surprisingly, my vision is extremely blurry, and my eyes hurt.
Still almost blinded, I try to move, but I can barely feel my body. It's hard to even move my neck. As minutes go on, I'm able to see more clearly.

"...Looks like I'm in a hospital... I... Guess something bad happened to me... But... I don't recall anything... Moreover... I don't even remind my own name... Damn..."

Turning my neck a bid to the side, I notice that there's a boy sleeping in a chair next to my bed. He looks like he has around 15 or 16 years, and he looks kind of cute like that.
After a while, he wakes up.
As he notices that I'm also awake, he jumps off his chair in surprise, and hugs me.

-Thank God!! - He says. - I... I can't belive you woke up Sayuri-san!!

"Sayuri? Could that be me?"

-Uhm... Do you have any idea of what happened to me... Boy...?

The boy looks confused for a while.

-Y-you... Don't remember Sayuri-san?! You had a car accident! - He had tears running down his cheeks by now.

-W-what...? - My heart aches to hear that.

-You were in coma since then!

-...Wow... Then it must've been real bad...

-Y-yes... It was...

-How long did I stay here?

-Huh... About 5 weeks.

"... I'm not really sure about this, but... A car accident that leaves me in coma and I can barely move my body? It's not like I'm paralytic or anything, I can still feel it and I don't feel pain anywhere. I'm completely uninjured... I guess it's better to leave it like this for now."

-Can you tell me my name?

The boy once again makes a surprised face, but this time, he looks also worried.

-Oh no... - He realized that I have amnesia. - B-but you're awake! That's what matters! I will help you recall everything, nee-san!

-Nee-san?Am I your sister?

-Yes, you are. I'm Ogawa Takumi. Your name is Tsukishima Sayuri.

//Note: In Japan, it's common to say the surname and then, the first name. Example: Ogawa = The boy's family name. Takumi = His first name.//

-Huh... Why do we have different surnames?

-Oh, damn... I... Wouldn't really like that to be the first thing you recalled, but... I'll tell you if you want.

-Please do.

-Years ago, when I wasn't even born, my parents found you abandoned somewhere in this town... With only a note with your name on it, and they decided to not to change it.

I feel my heart aching once again after I hear that.

-Oh... I see... - I was a bit depressed now.

-B-but d-don't worry Sayuri-san! We all love you!!

-N-no... It's not anything like that... It's just... Ah... Forget it...

The door opens.

A nurse comes inside with food on a tray, but as she sees me awake, she drops it in scare, and leaves the room running. A few moments later, a doctor comes in, and just like the nurse, he is also surprised. He comes naer me and ask a few things. Then, he says that I can probably leave the hospital in 7 to 10 days, and I should also try to move my body as much as I can.

--------

?? / ?? / ????

5 days later, I could freely move my body, but walking was still strangely difficult. I was always falling down after a few steps, as though I was a baby.

-Hey, Ogawa-san, how old am I?

Ogawa was visiting me just like he did every previous day.

-You're 17.

-And you?

-I'm 15.

-Hmm... Taking opportunity to ask, what is today's date?

-It's May, 8, 1997, thursday.

-Thanks

-Anytime!

Since there wasn't anything else to do, I spent the whole day trying to walk.
At night, I had a dream.

---------------

?? / ?? / ????

A world... A landscape... An entire blue surface...

I am once again, inside that "nowhere". That sphere of light is also with me.

I stare at it, and I begin to feel nostalgia.

"Strange... Why do I feel that this sphere is so familiar. It just spins spins and spins around me. Also, I don't really know if I am floating to some direction... It's all blue here, so I don't know if I am actually moving or not."

This place surely does sound weird, but it doesn't scare me anymore. In fact, I feel calm to be here.

Suddenly, an explosion of light blinds me.

Time's up! The artist chosen is Abbyka! Congratulations! =)

To everyone else, don't give up! Everyone had amazing drawning skills that I could never do anything like that! It's sad but I can only choose one.

Thanks to everyone who participated!

Anyways, if someone's wondering, I think the project will be done in around 1 or 2 months.

Sorry for that.
Theres already a project like that going on, Project Denovo
That takes a hell of a lot of work; you might want to think about a team.
Also, for the amount of work that would take, you might wanna invest a bit more money ;)

Yeah, I've got 2 people and me working on it, we all have each other's MSN and I think we are a united team, as we had a lot of fun talking about random stuff yesterday =P
We won't give up! (Atleast not me '-')

And... It surely takes a lot of work, but I think its easy (atleast for me '-') as while I've been making the story for Spring Wind, I ended up creating 2 other stories that made myself and Marky cry (lol)

(That means we will have 2 more projects to work on when we finish Spring Wind! =D)

It's only time consuming, as programming isn't difficult for me.

About the money, as I'm really not interested in making any, I'm giving away all the revenue to Abbyka and Marky.

I'm not talking about gameplay, I'm talking about art direction. The thing is: all those games with similar gameplay have some distinct art style. You don't. You're following a pattern that's been done to death before. You've said you would prefer anime and clean smooth lines, in other words, exactly what you've shown: the most boring kind of anime there can possibly be.

Maybe like Draghead's one? LOL
I'm not fast to defend Droghead, but you are being downright insulting. At least Droghead is trying to make his own stuff, unlike you who is scared of taking the genre in a new directions. I would prefer Droghead's drawings over any example you've shown so far.

@ test-object

I'm not following a pattern, I AM open to use any other kind of art, but about Droghead's art, that is NOT a kind of art I'd like to have in my game!

"The most boring kind of anime there can possibly be"
Okay, thats YOUR point of view. For me, it isnt boring, for a thousands and thousands of people, it isn't, just like for another thousands and thousands of people it IS.
I can't make everyone happy you know.

Okay, I insulted Droghead, but your also insulting me, since your first post on this thread, you've insulted the way of art I like.

When did I say I won't accept any other kind of art? Does Abbyka's art look anime-like? No. but I still contacted her and I'm almost choosing her already.

That's alright, I was being a bit rude without elaborating anyway. I'm talking about the soulless pictures you provided. They look horrible and uninspiring. How about an art style that would make your game actually interesting? There's a billion clichéd anime "Visual Novels" around there already, why is this one worth anyone's time?

I'm not saying the game will be bad, I'm saying you are aiming for a ridiculously overdone art-style that is almost sure to backfire on your creative process.

Huh? The art i'm aiming for doesn't need to look in any way, like the pictures I uploaded, I only uploaded them to show the people that I wanted the pictures to only show the upper part of the character's body, I didn't mean that they MUST draw something like that! Because that picture was made by professional people! And not only one!

Also, about the cliche'd game, then, what's the point in ANYONE creating 90% of the games? there are probably 100 zombie shooter games here on NG, and every of them you do the same thing: barricade and shoot their heads. (Yes, there are some other kinds, like RTS zombie games)

Probably, 70% of NG's games has a same gameplay as some other game, but obviously, they aren't equal, and some are really good, though you always do the same thing in every damned game!!

A good example is Last Stand, a game where your a survivor and has some barricades in front of some building, and at night, you kill the zombies, at day, you can either go find stuff or repair the barricade.
And, on the other hand, there's Bunny Invasion, where a ton of bunnies come to kill you while you use a pub as a defense building, which has life (just like the barricade on last stand)
On both games, all you do is shoot things, repair your walls and buy/find new weapons. However, I really liked both games, and played them until their end.

--------------

"Why's this one worth anyone's time?"

Really, I don't know, just like my example above, my game WILL have the same gameplay as anyother Visual Novel, the only thing that can make visual novels different from each other is it's content, nothing else. (There are, indeed, some Visual N's that add some other kind of gameplay, like a mini-game inside it.)

But I'm sure that my one WILL be worth of people's time, I can confirm it and rest assured.
I'd like to tell you why, but, then, i'd have to tell the whole history. (As there won't be some kind of inovative stuff on my VN, as it would be somewhat strange)

"Soulless"? What did you mean by that? No context?

"Art that would make my game interesting"? You mean, some kind of different art, other than gentle? (like, an art-style that has never been in a Visual Novel before? Maybe like Draghead's one? LOL)

@jow279

Hmm, doesn't look bad, but looks somewhat strange I think. But it's probably because its not anime-like, but don't worry about that, I dont mind if it's not anime-like art.
(Don't know why it looks strange to me)

@ EVERYONE (literaly)

The kind of art i'm looking for is something like the pictures I uploaded here, the character MUST have GENTLE lines, be "soft" and have soothing lines.

--------------

In order to not to confuse people anymore, i'll share with you guys what my game is about.

As i've already said, my game is a VISUAL NOVEL, in other words, a ROMANCE!!!

There's almost NO game play.

Visual novels are for people who like to read beautiful histories, those who entertain them and make them be "heart warmned"

The pictures will change as the main character walks into a different scene or is talking to someone else. (In other words, talking to him!)

In other words, my game is a BOOK, the only difference between a book and my game, is that there's music, there's pictures, there are some sound effects, and you can choose the main character's actions from time to time, and thus, changing the history, which will have lots of different endings for the player to see.

This is a good example of how my game will be:

Response to: Artist Needed to Draw Characters! Posted February 25th, 2011 in Art

Oh, yeah, forgot to mention that, I will also include credits for you, both in-game and in the posting of the game!

Oh and, don't worry about the picture I uploaded here, your work DOESN'T need to look THAT good! It should atleast not be ugly!

Do your best people! I'm looking forward to see your work!

Response to: Artist Needed to Draw Characters! Posted February 25th, 2011 in Art

Yes, to everyone who asked, I WILL pay you!

Now, could you guys show me atleast a picture of your work? I will then, choose the one I like the most.

Whoever wants to join me and Marky, please, send me a picture (either here, on this post or via PM), you should draw a girl! Don't care if she's blonde, black haired, long or short haired! (Don't forget to put clothes on her!! =P) Also, you only need to draw from her bellybutton to her head, I don't need you to draw her lower body, something like this picture:

Obs: You don't need to draw background for this "test".

Obs2: Don't worry, if I dont choose you, I won't use your art without permission.

Me and MarkySpark are making a Visual Novel game, and we need someone who can draw characters, background images and other stuff!

What you draw doesn't need to look professional, as long as its not ugly/stolen/ unusable by some other reason.
Important notes:

1) You MUSTN'T only edit already existing images! You must make them out of nothing!

2) I WILL give you a reference of how I want the character to look like.

3) You will have to create clothes too! (Like school uniforms, casual clothes.)

4) If you can make the characters Anime-like, I'd be very happy!

5) Everything's already set up! 85% of the history is already done, all I need is someone do draw !

6) More info, PM me via Newgrounds!

Here's a picture of what I want (Doesn't really need to look this good):

Trouble with Anti-aliasing Posted February 14th, 2011 in The Games Factory 2

I've made a black cutscene that is simply various rectangles that appear one each another to black out the screen, but when I try to copy & paste it on another frame, the rectangle's lines before white! And I cant use Fill tool to take them out! even with 100 tolerance! I can only take them off one by one, and it will take a looooong time! Can someone help me disable anti-aliasing? (If that's what causing me this trouble)

I've seen some other guy saying on another topic that anti-aliasing creates white lines around the object! That might be it! Can someone help me turn it off?

Yes, you can make the block with a single pixel.

There are two ways to make the gun animation:

First Way:

1: Make the character armless.

2: The guns must have the character's arms holding it.

3: Since you will probably be starting with some pistol or something else, the character won't look armless! When you change weapons, the position of the arms will also change, because every weapon isnt holded in the same way, right? In that way, it won't look strange when you swap from a pistol to a big sniper rifle.

4: Depending on the characer you are making (Top view, platform-movement character), you will have to make different gun positions, but if he only aims one way, then theres no need for that.

Obviously, the gun with arms will be following the character

Also, when making a gun face a different way, don't forget that it needs an empty space behind it, so that it doesn't stay inside the character.

------------------

Second Way:

1: Make a copy of the main guy.

2: For every gun your game has, make a different clone of the main guy that uses the same variables as the main one (such as the HP variable).

3: Each clone should be holding a different weapon, and everytime you change weapons, the main guy model is replaced by its "clone".

Note that you must make a walking animation for the clone holding a different gun, otherwise, the gun will disapper when he starts to walk / die / do something else.

You can either make him walk the same way he did when, for example, he was walking with a pistol for when he's holding a rifle OR you can make him walk with a different position. (Because you dont hold a rifle with a single hand like you do when your holding a pistol)

You can also "Cheat" on that animation too, on the animation thing.

1: Make a dummy, identical to the character / zombie

2: That dummy should have the "running-and-being-shot" animation

3: When the main character gets hit, make a trigger turn him invisible for a couple of seconds, then, on his place, make the dummy apper, play the animation and fade away.

Obs: The dummy must ALWAYS be following the main character, just make him invis. (There's another way to make him only appear when them main character gets hit, but it gets a little bit complicated)
