I have an external XML file (on my hard drive), I load it with my AS3 code into Flash, I change the XML object's data. Is it possible to update an that existing external XML file from Flash Player? Note that in this case I am using Flash CS5 IDE, not Flex or Air.

I was thinking about using FileReference.save() method, but I am not sure. Will this work and is there another way?

I only use my own classes, I have a small personal library ;-)

.swf can be played on any computer that has Flash Player installed

.exe can be played on any computer. It will weigh more than the same swf, because it has Flash Player elements in the file itself.

Well, that is probably because such properties are common for multiple classes and don't need to be reminded of... I don't know, though.

It looks pretty cool! Maybe create a Tetris game but with a twist, something original. And then include the 'classic mode' in the game menu. Good luck!

AS3 tile engine question Posted August 26th, 2010 in Game Development

So I'm making a tile engine, I've never had any experience with tiles before, so I decided to try it out. I have one question - what each tile on the stage should be? Right now each tile is a code-generated MovieClip with different tile pictures on different frames.

I was thinking of maybe making each tile a Sprite, but then I would have to make a new object for every tile in my library.

I could also make each tile a Sprite with pixel information cut off from a big sprite sheet, but that's more advanced, though, so I would want to start with something not so complicated as BitmapData cutting, lol...

So the question is: what should each tile on the stage be?

If you want to create a Mac yourself, here's a step by step guide:

1) Take a 10 year old weak technology

2) Take everything unneeded (such as cooler, usb hubs, etc) out, we want it to be small

3) Put all you have into a shiny white box

4) Sell this for over $3000

5) ???

6) PROFIT

I watch his videos not because of him, but because of the videos he finds. Because I wouldn't bother to find them myself, so RWJ does that for me. Yes, he is my secret personal slave.

Ad providers Posted August 24th, 2010 in General

Hey guys. I hope this is the right forums to post this at.

So, I have a blog, I have original content (tutorials) and I update my blog with new content daily. I've been up for over 2 months and would like to try to make a ltitle bit of cash from what I do. So my question is - what is the bset ad provider for blogs?

I know of Google adsense, but the problem is that it doesn't pay through paypal (I'd like to be paid through paypal), however if there's no other choice I guess I'll use it.

Thanks in advance, newgroudian people.

Response to: Worst picture of Justin Bieber Posted August 24th, 2010 in General

Look at that picture. Looking? Now imagine it is you. You've been offered a famous job and now people are hating on you because they listen to your music when they don't like it (why?) and spread pictures, gossips and similar shit.

I don't like Justin Bieber's music too, but you don't see me making topics about it. It is there, let it be, there are people who like it. If you don't - then just don't listen to it, simple as that!

Response to: Brightness in flash Posted August 24th, 2010 in Game Development

Hi

I know for sure that you are able to completely manipulate what you see on display using AS3, i.e. brightness, contrast, negative, grayscale, etc...

But I am not sure about AS2. It probably has something to do with RGB of the object. Or you can just use brighter colors when you draw your game lol

Good luck!

You know you can disable all the toolbars in IE, right?
Yeah.

But that defeats the purpose of all those "features" might as well just get a simplified browser that gives you a slim interface optimized to be in harmony with a slew of great features.

You make no sense.

So you say, if you turn off the toolbars in IE8, you take those features off. Well no shit!
If you get Chrome, with those toolbars already off, there are no such features too.

So what's the point? It makes almost no difference in the interface then. So why use Chrome when IE8 is faster and safer?

And what are those great features you speak of? Interface color selection? lol

P.S. I saw this somewhere in this thread I think, some people said that Microsoft is dumb for making IE "not simple to use". Seriously, how fucking retarded do you have to be to not be able to use this browser?
