Hm, maybe so I have no idea. Is the game supposed to fill the entire screen (like it only fills two-thirds of it now), or is the screen supposed to be smaller? Can't contact your coder?

On a side note, what were you using when you came up with this game?

Can't you remove the game? Take your time to fix it and upload it again? That would at least save you from having a few dozen bad reviews and a low score

Strangest thing, I was just thinking of whether or not to reply to this topic, seeing as I never really knew the guy or his work and thought it would only be strange to give out my condolences to someone I don't know. Hypocritical in a way. Then I checked out his profile and he has a bunch of medals from one of my games. Strange as it may sound it actually kind of shocked me as it creates some kind of connection with him... Anyway, dying at such a young age is never a good thing, and I hope his family find all the strength and support they need.

And add some texture to it if you really want to go for that realistic look. The thing I'm working on right now is using a couple of textures as well: What I do is I download some photo's from Google, some grass, forest, metal, old paper etc. I copy the layer that has the graphics, paste it, replace the fills with bitmaps. Convert the bitmap layer to a symbol, and lower the alpha. It's a pretty work intensive method but you can make some pretty neat things with it. The benefit of lowering the alpha instead of having just one layer with all different textures is that you can reuse the texture for other materials, you can fade it out more, you can change the color of the fill-layer to achieve totally different effects.

Again if I'm not making any sense... well... I tried.

Smack your mates for me. And yes, it's a sad film at times, the intro is pretty heartbreaking. But it's good fun most of the time, it also has scores of jokes kids won't understand.

Also does this look better.

Looks better but I'd take away a few more chips of metal, and make a few of those straight lines crooked&curved. You'd be amazed what a small amount of things that are composed of other things have actual straight lines. If that made any sense.

sorry if it didn't.

I just saw 'Up' (in a theater packed with kids and parents, I felt a bit out of place with my mates and bottle of beer). Anyway, it was great, first real film I've seen that's in 3D too, which was much better than I though it would be. It really adds to the experience in a subtle way. I thought it would be really intrusive and lead to those forced situations as seen in the final destination trailer... but it didn't! Hurray!

Now back to coding...

Topic: how to animate fire?

Posted: 10/22/09 07:29 AM

Forum: Flash

I've been messing around with fire myself lately. What I do now is; first I draw a simple yellow line, a few frames later I draw a flame-ish shape that is still attached to the object, another few frames later I draw a flame shape that's up in the air, and to finish it off I draw a small speck even higher up another couple of frames later. I shape tween that, do the same trick on another couple of layers, loop it and you get something like this(quick example, looks like crap). Add some smoke and sparks to your own taste and you have a pretty decent fire.

how to animate fire?

Guess what, not everyone spends 2/3 of their day on the BBS. So don't go flaming people for these BS reasons. Either write down something constructive or don't bother at all. I'm getting tired of all of your non-contributive/+1 posts I keep seeing every time I take a peek in the forums.

At the OP: If you show some examples of your work that would make things more interesting for would-be willing coders. If you're any good you might find someone. I must warn you though that threads/ideas like these almost never succeed.

If it's an open field, something along the lines of square root{(ball.x-enemy.x)*(ball.x-enemy.x)+(
ball.y-enemy.y)*(ball.y-enemy.y)}. Do that for both balls and you have the distances of the enemy to the ball. Explained better here.

Topic: Hows ma site design ?

Posted: 10/18/09 05:40 PM

Forum: Flash

I agree with ProfessorFlash. The only reason why Flash would be good for web design is because you can do wildly different stuff with it than your average html/css site. So if I were to build a website the first thing I'd try to do is thinking outside of the usual rectangular shapes and colums etc. Make it exciting, you have Flash and Actionscript, which allows you to do a lot of strange, dynamic and extraordinary stuff, so why go for something square and simple which you might as well do with html/css?

As for the design itself, it looks pretty neat, although I think everything is slightly too big.

Does anyone know whether those monthly NG certificates actually exist? Or are they just a myth? I've been waiting on mine for 3 months now... And I really want to show it to my grandparents.

Dude, give it some time. This is a forum, not an IM conversation. Not a whole lot of people have CS4 (and thus the bone tool), and a big percentage of people who do have CS4 probably don't feel like helping out. You just have to wait for someone who does.

Unfortunately for you the chance you'll find someone willing to do this is extremely small, non-existant really. There are loads of these kind of threads each week and to my knowledge none of them ever worked out. It simply isn't worth the effort animating someone else's ideas. I suggest to start practicing yourself.

This is one of the most important truths in business. You always hear so many romantic stories of self-made millionaires who started out from scratch. I'm willing to bet the percentage of people who succeed in that way is smaller than 0.0001%.

You need some sort of in-between animation, I'm not sure what would be the best way to do this. Maybe start a timer after the player releases the left or right button. Then, if the player presses the other directional key within a certain period of time, first display a turning animation. Once that turning animation is finished continue onto the running animation.

If the player doesn't press another button with that period of time play the standing animation.
