Hello there!

I was hoping you could help our predicament! I'm a programmer/Designer of a SHMUP game in development called Sorcerer's Path. An Alpha build was put on Newgrounds not too long ago, but we have lost our Composer since then and need a new one. Below is a video showing what we have with the game so far. It also shows what style of music we are looking for as well as the main concept of the game!

If you want to play, here is the Alpha build!

I'm not sure what your problem is, what isn't working, what errors do you get (if you get any), what does the corresponding code look like? What do you mean with "the Class on the Flash file"?
If you're using Adobe Flash CS x you just need to make 2 frames on the timeline, 1st frame for the preloader (nothing else), and the 2nd frame contains the ActionScript to start your game/engine.

Alright, so the error I get is that the line is "null or contains no properties" and it is on the first line of code! Now, the code for the game is not linked to any frame at all, like an action, it is in an actionscript file. Now, what I mean by "The class on the flash file" is when in the properties menu on the Flash file, there is a "Class" spot where you link an actionscript file to it!
I am using Adobe Flash Creative Cloud.

Response to: Problems with Preloader Posted April 17th, 2014 in Game Development

I have changed the properties, but now, it brings up the preloader and loads, but the code still attempts to start and comes up with an error saying that my variables are Null or no properties. It's as if the preloader isn't stopping the code and the preloader just does it's thing.

Problems with Preloader Posted April 16th, 2014 in Game Development

I am using one of the preloaders that Newgrounds have provided and I did everything it asked, but it still isn't working. Every time I put it in the "Dumping Grounds" and play it, it just brings up the white screen until it's all the way loaded and automatically starts.

Response to: Can Flash make Mobile Apps? Posted March 16th, 2014 in Game Development

Thank you for the help, but I actually found out! There's a publishing setting that if you set it for AIR for Android, it makes an APK that will work on Android phones! Haven't tested it for Iphones yet, but it works :)

Can Flash make Mobile Apps? Posted March 12th, 2014 in Game Development

I am currently working in Flash Creative Cloud and am wondering if I can make a Mobile application from the game I am making! If it can be made, what are the KeyCodes or CharaCodes associated with the touch screen? I've seen many mobile apps with a make shift D-pad and buttons.

Thank you,

Response to: Can't put anymore objects in Librar Posted February 11th, 2014 in Game Development

They are just how many items in total, such as PNG's, objects, and Tweens. What do you mean by pull them all into one big map?

I have at least 812 items in the library right now. Every time I try to put new art, whether a PNG or a JPG, Flash stops working. Every time I click it, the computer makes that Microsoft "ding" sound and I can't interact with it. I end up having to pull up Task Manager and end Flash that way. Does anyone know what's going on?

Response to: Character Artist needed Posted January 1st, 2014 in Collaboration

I apologize, but I wasn't clear on the post. The Demo shown above just needs to be done, not the actual game itself.

Character Artist needed Posted January 1st, 2014 in Collaboration

Before you read anymore of this post, please play this demo. After you get through the cutscene towards the end, you may continue the game by going left at the portal, but it's not necessary.

As you can see, all the art is nothing more than proxy art, hence, we need a character artist. We already have an environmental artist working on it and a couple of composers. I already have an Asset List written and ready. If you would like to know more information about the project, we have a Facebook page and a Tumblr page for this project. There is also a Deviant Art page that has regular updates to the game. The links are below.

The art for this game is needed to be done by the 17th of January for proper implementation to the game and editing if needed. If you would like to inquire on joining the team, please PM me.

Animators and Artists Posted December 10th, 2013 in Collaboration

Who Wants Make A Shmup? Posted December 9th, 2013 in Collaboration

Before you read the rest of this, please play this demo! (Don't forget to left click in the game to register keyboard keys and zoom out the browser to see the entire game)

http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/724895bddb917649c4b7b72db32c60ed

First of all, I designed and programed the entire thing from scratch! However, all the art, sound effects, and music is either not my own or poorly made! That's what I need help in! I have the entire game designed, from front to back, but I just need talent to back me up on this one! I am looking for a dedicated Artists and a Composers!

Honestly, I want to make this a fantastic Kickstarter project, so I am looking for that kind of dedication! However, if it doesn't turn out that way, I still would like people to help me finish it just as a first project! So, what would I like, do you ask?

Artists

At least 1 Artists needed, but will take 2.

I need samples of your art for starters! Also, if you could create concept art for the Main Character! The Main Character is a lone apprentice wizard. His power is limited, but he is determined and his courage is bountiful! The style of the game is dark, yet colorful! Examples of this style can be seen from games such as Odin Sphere on the PS2 or Grim Grimoire on the PS2. The art will primarily be sprite based.

Composers

One needed for music and the other needed for Sound Effects.

First off, if you could give me your samples, that would be great! If you could make a 30 second piece The style of the music varies. The boss battles should sound decisive and powerful. Examples of this is Yoko Shimomura, who has composed for Kingdom Hearts and Radiant Historia. The Level music should match the environment, of course, but have sounds from the environment included in the making of the piece. Examples of this is Donkey Kong Country, composed by David Wise.

If you have any information at all or would like to join in, please PM me! I hope I can work with awesome people, so show me your awesomeness!

Hello Matt,

My name is Spencer, AKA wolftriplex. I am currently Programming/Designing a game and am in need of a composer. I looked at some of your music and thought it could be a perfect fit. I have a demo of the game if you want to see it. I also have example music to get a feel of what I am looking for. The game I am working on is closely related to the arcade game Raiden, but an adventure feel too it.

Saving in Actionscript 3.0 Posted September 23rd, 2013 in Game Development

I am making a game in Flash using Actionscript 3.0, but I do not know how to create a saved game in Actionscript 3.0. I want to save as if I'm having the game put up on Newgrounds. How would I go about writing this in Actionscript 3.0?

How do I track the Mouse? Posted April 1st, 2013 in Game Development

I am making a game where the player travels by using the right mouse click, much like League of Legends, but I don't know how to track where the mouse is in Actionscript 3.0. Can someone help me?

I am trying my very best to create a Save option in Actionscript 3.0, but I have no idea how to. I've heard of saving objects and saving on a server, but without an example code, I have no idea what any of that really means. Can someone help me?

Calling all Animators! Posted June 4th, 2012 in Collaboration

Hello there! I am your friendly neighborhood Flash Programmer here with some interesting games that are in need of some art! These projects will start on July 1st on the dot and will have! I will have a schedule made up for each of these games, a weekly bases of what needs to be done! Now, these weeks are estimated, so they will be more concrete by July 1st!I will provide an asset list, design documents, and Level Design documents by this time! There are three games in total! Two of the three games, I have provided demos!

Project Wizard

A vertical shooter adventure. Think of it as if Raiden, Megaman, and Zelda were put together! There will be fourteen levels, two levels will be made every week! One of the weeks will be used for the Title and one week will be used for the End Credits!

Controls

Move = Arrow Keys
Space Bar = Shoot

Here is the demo!

http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/e6224728ed6a69763bcf214f 120e0362

Revenge of the Pigeon Prince

A horizontal shooter. In essence, it's a wacky game about a pigeon wanting to take revenge on the human race, so he craps on the people and vehicles! There will be seventeen levels! Each week, two levels will be completed! One of the weeks will be used to make the Title and one of the weeks will be used to make the End Credits!

Controls

Move - Arrow Keys
Shoot - Space Bar

Demo

Rage of Super Kami Guru

A tower defense game! If anyone hasn't guessed already, it's a comedy game based off the hit abridged show by Team Four Star! This game has thirty five levels, but luckily, it will have the same background mostly the entire time! The style will be like the Legacy of Goku sprites! Each week, five levels will be completed! One week will be used to make the Title and one week will be used to make the End Credits!

Now, you may "Why should I trust this guy!? He's just a noob!"! Well, here's some proof! All of these games listed below were games I have programmed in a week in a school project! The Artists in my team did all the art as well!

Need Help in programming Posted November 13th, 2011 in Game Development

I just need to know something about the loading screen! Do I have to make a loading screen myself or does Newgrounds make one automatically when I post the game? If I have to make it myself, could someone tell me how?

Anyway, not that matters, because there is no decent animator or artist stupid enough to do a project like this if there is no money involved. Unless you are a talented artist and have many good submissions to newgrounds, no animator is going to want to waste there time with game designer wannabe. Get some skills.

You know, this is what newgrounds is supposed to be about, people getting together and working on fun projects. It doesn't matter what skill level the person is at, as long as they are willing to work for something. Maybe in the Gaming Industry, sure! They would need a certain amount of skill, but here, it's a lot different. Everybody that has good submissions out there had to start from nothing. How do you think they started? I'm sure many of them asked for help. All I'm saying is don't beat down someone's dream just because there's an obstacle in the way.

Response to: Want to collab with me? Posted November 13th, 2011 in Collaboration

I can be a Programmer for this! I am in need of an email of yours so I can show you some of my work! Just so you know, when it comes to programming with flash, it's technically impossible to have two programmers, just because two programmers can't have the same exact program at the same time. It's like two writers writing the same book. It would just be too hard, but I would be willing to program it by myself! I've done many of small, two week projects myself! Could you also tell me what kind of style the game will be in? Such as a Platformer, a shooter, ect. Thank you! I hope to hear from you soon!

Response to: Looking for artists, writers, etc. Posted November 13th, 2011 in Collaboration

I can help as a writer! I've actually written a book before and am writing another one right now! If you want to check out, here's a link!

I wrote it 6 years ago, so the grammar from that book isn't that well done, but I am a lot better writer now! If you want my assistance, please email me at wolftriplex@yahoo.com! Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon!

I can help with you! I just need to know a couple of specifics like what kind of puzzles there will be, how long the game will be, ect. I work mainly in Actionscript 3.0! I hope to hear from you soon!

Response to: Need A Coder For A Fighting Game Posted November 13th, 2011 in Collaboration

Hello! I am interested in coding for you guys! I was wondering if I could help code for you! I mainly code in Actionscript 3.0 and use my own Actionscript files when I code, so if you want, I can do everything, including the timer, in no less than a four days. If you need any of my examples, I can email them to you! I look forward to your response!

Action Script 3.0 Help Posted October 4th, 2011 in Game Development

I'm having a bit of an issue. I'm making a SHMUP game and I'm trying to make a function where if the player gets hurt, they will start flashing and be invincible for five seconds. Is there a way to code a Flashing effect in Action Script 3.0?

Response to: Adding Music in Action Script 3? Posted August 26th, 2010 in Game Development

Thanks you guys! This makes a lot more sense! I'll post if I have any more problems!

Response to: Adding Music in Action Script 3? Posted August 25th, 2010 in Game Development

Ok, I'm starting not to get Sound Channels at all. I put on the top,

import flash.media*;

then I put what you said in the constructer,

var soundChan:Soundchannel = music.play();

but it comes with this error.

Line 82 1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type void to an unrelated type flash.media:SoundChannel.

That's the line that says creates the sound Channel. Any hints?

Response to: Adding Music in Action Script 3? Posted August 25th, 2010 in Game Development

Thanks! I've never messed with sound channels before, so it's something I can tinker with! It really helps!

Hello,

I'm making a game on Flash, using Action Script 3, and I am attempting to add music to add a little flare. I was able to add the music, but I have no idea how to stop it. I add the music in from an object called "music". I want other music to play, but whenever I try to stop the music by entering, this.music.stop();, and adding new music, all it does is put the new music on top of the existing music into one annoying blend of sounds. Does anyone know a code or a method to completely stop a song while playing?

Thank you,

wolftriplex
