Sorry Comrade, but stupid people don't cause Global Warming to be false.

And if it wasn't Global Warming, it'd be Y2K version 2

And if it wasn't Y2K Version 2, It'd Be 2012.

And if it wasn't 2012, it'd be swine aids.

And if it wasn't swine aids, it'd be Satan.

Here, let's prove a bit of Global Warming. You know on a cold winter day, a bright sunny day is usually colder than a dull cloudy day? Also, Venus. I rest my case.

Here's how i see it.

Being Mentally Handicapped is bad, and we should not make fun of those people.

Being Retarded, however, is a choice, and therefore should not be tolerated.

Example: Jimmy was in a car accident, had a massive concussion, and is now mentally Handicapped. His friend Billy is a Frat Boy, and now is retarded.

1) The Meaning of Life - There isn't one. Sorry. Quite simply, what is meaning? Purpose. But purpose is a human concept as is meaning. Life could go on without meaning. Its the replication of a bunch of cells in a very complex system. So the answer to the often asked question might as well be 42 because no other answer would do. A couple simple things about #1. If there's no meaning given by the universe to life, but meaning is a human concept you can apply meaning as you see fit (and you often do). So there simultaneously is meaning when there is not. It just isn't the ultimate truth kind of meaning. Its the shallow selfish kind of meaning.

On this count i have to disagree. If you haven't noticed, people do things for a reason. Without reason, you wouldn't do it. A better way to put it is in terms of self interest. I am typing this because i enjoy a good philosophical conversation. If i didn't, i wouldn't. Therefore it is my self interest. It's also in my self interest to keep living because i love life and the potential i might do something greater with it vastly outweighs my pains, troubles and health problems.

Now, if what i said seems irrelevant, i'd like to bring up my second point: Why would this meaning, this desire to keep on living, non-human constructively, be a shallow selfish meaning? We exist because we will it to. Does that make us selfish? Maybe, but wouldn't a better word be that it makes us bold? Stubborn? Maybe even a bit hopeful?

Any game that puts storyline over...i dunno...sub-par graphics usually gets some sort of emotional response from me.

Mass Effect 1 and 2 were roller coasters
Bioshock was "awwwwwe"
Dues Ex 1 was "WHOLY SHIT!"
Dues Ex 2 was "Damn good idea"
Oblivion was "Now what?"
Any Total War game was "I AM MAN!!!"
Fallout 2 was "mmm. yes. educated. yes. mmmm. yes."
Age of Wonders 1 was "wow...now he's alone...awe."
Age of Wonders 2 was "OH GOD! THE WRITING! SO HORRIBLE!"
Age of Mythology was "Eh, good enough"

Do we see a pattern here, children?

Edit: Unless, of course, they choose to. But there should be taken into consideration still that they don't fully know the consequences of their actions.

Yes, because there's no chance in hell they wouldn't, you know, do anything like "modify" or "integrate" or anything, you know, remotely creative. ever. Not Bioware. nope.

Uh, there aren't any Rachni left, unless you mean the results of the experiments...

Aye, i do. I chose to save the Rachni in ME1, so they be better be adding to the reaper body count when i the final battle comes about.

The Geth do not have those kinds of powers as far as I am aware

Well, yes, they're more reaper powers than anything else (i'm talking about the husks FYI) But there is no reason i can't have a robo-Ash or robo-Kaiden.

As for the ME story, you guys specifically have a rule that says "No over-the-top" stuff. Sorry, but every time i think of Mass Effect, i'm filled with a inquencible lust of Awesome and Badass.

for every character, you do 100 sit-ups, then write an epic.

Solution'd

An exercise? Posted March 2nd, 2010 in Writing

Do you have more than 3 characters in the story? A bit hard to keep track? I have stories with many characters often, and i don't really do much in the way of actually develop them until i have to. So here's how I've figured to jump the gun.

1. Open Excel or any similar program
2. In the top row list your characters in whatever order (order of appearance, Alphabetical, by sexual orientation, whatever.)
3. In the far left column, put the same characters in that same order.
4. Go to a box where two characters correspond and write their relationship. So say that you have a character named "Felix" and another named "George". In where Row Felix, Column George intersect, you write their relationship. Note that Felix may feel differently about George than George feels about Felix. Keep track of this.

With this, if you ever forget how one character feels about another, you can always look it up. If it gets to extensive, you can always search for your Character using the simple "Find" (Ctrl+F) command, or use different files if certain groups of characters don't have particularly strong relationship.

As times go on, Relationships change. So, write that in the box. Something like "George likes Felix and the start of the book. After they rob the bank togeather and Felix sells him out, George is heartbroken. After he kills Felix, he realizes that he has left a sum of money for him in his will, making George confused." ETC.

Commence the Harvesting.

Response to: A poem that's a bit odd & dark. Posted March 2nd, 2010 in Writing

Poetic. Considering that's what you were aiming for.

I consider writing good if i can find the right voice for it, which i did. It's dark, but it doesn't trip over into being sadistic or even self-pitying.

Not much in the way of criticism, aside from the fact that it didn't...well...click with me...But that's just personal Aesthetic, and nothing that is inherently wrong with the work.
