No I didn't. Tried that several times before and just did it again just to be sure, but no difference. Same error.

Response to: Enemy Spawning help Posted May 19th, 2009 in Game Development

So you want a random (out of 5) MC to spawn, one per 5 seconds?

Hi guys, I'm kinda in need of some help here. I've downloaded the AS2 vCam from here. I'm using AS2, Flash 8.
I used it before and never had any problems with it, but now I have. When I hit CTRL+ENTER , I got these errors:

**Error** Symbol=VCam_AS2, layer=actions, frame=1:Line 18: Syntax error.
     import flash.display.BitmapData;

**Error** Symbol=VCam_AS2, layer=actions, frame=1:Line 52: '{' expected
     onEnterFrame = function ():Void {

**Error** Symbol=VCam_AS2, layer=actions, frame=1:Line 54: Unexpected '}' encountered
     };

Total ActionScript Errors: 3 Reported Errors: 3

I copied and pasted the vCam MC from the downloadable .FlA to my project. Any idea what's wrong? I'm guessing interference by something else in my Flash, since it worked before and it works in the source .fla as well. Any help greatly appreciated.
What I think is relevant code(on the first frame in the vcam MC):

import flash.display.BitmapData;

//..... some stuff here

onEnterFrame = function (): Void {
	camControl();
};

I'm not so sure wheter Tom reads my PM. I'm sure he gets alot of stupid PMs with requests to do something, like delete a submission or something. Anyways, PM'd.

Btw I know who Tom is >:O

Why are there 13 ads or something on the Gamespage? At least there were 2 days ago.

It's a good thing you took comfort in death. It means you've got a strong personality.

Try the 30-day-trial of Flash. To get started, go here.

Response to: Sound Quality? Posted May 18th, 2009 in Game Development

Try doing this:

1. Right click on the song in the library, and choose 'Properties'.
2. If the check box that says 'Use imported MP3 quality' is checked, uncheck it.
3. Under 'Compression', choose 'MP3'
4. Under 'Bit rate' choose '64kbps'
5. Under 'Quality' choose 'best'
6. Uncheck 'Convert stereo to mono' and click 'OK'
7. Put the sound in to the animation by putting a keyframe and dragging the sound file onto the stage from the library.
8. Select the keyframe the sound is on, and go to the Properties panel (Ctrl+F3)
9. Under 'Sync:' choose 'Start'

That should do it, I guess. Tell me if it works.

Response to: Record then animate or... Posted May 18th, 2009 in Game Development

I'm not an animator, but i think you should create a storyboard before doing anything, then you can get voices from that and animate at the same time. Maybe it's just personal preference.

There should be a better approach, but I always write the text, break it up and arrange the letter manually. But don't do that. It sucks, just like me.

The code i'm using for the ground is this one...

}
if (_root.ground.hitTest(_x, _y, true)) {
air = false;

...I tried re-wording it to make a wall hit test but failed. I don't know if i need to put the code on the wall or on the player it's self =/

I think you should put it in the player MC, as that code checks if another MC touches THIS one, so with this, it means player so it should be in the player MC.

Well maybe it was just a copy/paste error, but you gotta close your if statement.
if(rr){
should be close with }

//example:
if(_x == _root.char._x){
_x --
}
// not:
if(_x == _root.char._x){
_x --

You should try making a wall MC on the frame, instance named as "wall1" and then put this code:

while (_root.wall1.hitTest(this._x, this._y+this._height/2-1+yspeed, true)) {
        yspeed--;
    }
    while (_root.wall1.hitTest(this._x-this._width/2+1+xspeed, this._y, true)) {
        xspeed++;
    }
    while (_root.wall1.hitTest(this._x+this._width/2-1+xspeed, this._y, true)) {
        xspeed--;
    }

Not too sure wether this works or not.

I don't tell them to fuck off. I try to help them at first, but also tell them to search Google from now on, with the basic stuff like buttons. Example:

(Guy): Hi guys, I'm kinda new to Flash and I want to get into programming. I tried to make a button, but it isn't working, (code)
(Me): Well what you're doing wrong is .... , you should be doing .... (Blah example code blah) ...But try and google from now on first, before you post.

Is this okay?

What if you do both? Tell them to google from now on but tell them what they want to know anyways? :3
