And that's not taking into account playing style, amps effects etc. Tele's are what you make 'em. Guitars are what you make 'em. I knew a guy who played jazz on an SG. you'd think that was preposterous but it sounded awesome because he was a good player.
::are only telecasters in name and shape, not in sound, Jim Root's signature guitar has two active
Nonsense. Guitar construction, materials and body shape all make the sound. Humbuckers are half of it but not all. You put active emg's in a paper thin ibanez or a chunky Les Paul and it sounds completely different.
if it has a humbucker it doesn't count
Springsteen uses humbuckers in his telecaster. would you say that's not a telecaster?

Give it a try dude. Make a mix on the cheap headphones with the EQ applied and make a mix on the expensive set and then compare the difference. If there is none then you can work with the cheap set with your applied EQ.
People have touched on it here, it's just what you're used to. I test my mixes on all sorts of things but I am probably most familiar with the senhieser buds I use with my iPhone. So I bounce all my tracks to MP3 and listen to it as I'm used to listening to other things and make adjustments accordingly. I am very used to my mastering headphones and monitors too so I know how things should sound on them. It's all personal preference and experience.
I think you'll get used to the cheap headphones if you have to but they won't provide you with the accuracy of an expensive set and you'll have a harder time mixing on them ultimately.

I thought asymetrical rooms were good?? Makes it harder for standing waves to propegate doesn't it?
I don't know if it's worth it either... I would be looking to get it for the first time and don't really make a huge amount of dance music. Is this worth it? I'm running logic 9 so the gate compressor and delay are moot for me. I like the look of Kong but again I've got ultra beat which does the same sort of thing... Not enough cool synths for me either which I see as the main attraction for buying an add on like this. I agree with Chris's FM sentiment. Does it do Granular?
Maybe menu music?

let me just say, that their is almost no creativity in any song made in garageband since I can obviosly tell when it's been used before... The synths are okay for what they are (free), but not what I would expect from apple and the whole 'macs are for multimedia!' thing they have going for them.\
Anyone using it is potentially using a piece kit powerful enough to make
very good music. To say there is no creativity in it is rediculous because the program doesn't make creativity. It is a vehicle for people to express theirself and when used well, no one will be able to tell what you used to make a piece. If you use stock samples from any sequencer then it's going to sound generic. Loads of the stuff here sounds like it came from FL because people use presets when they perhaps aren't as experienced. I have logic and still use some of the garage band instruments because I know how to make great sounds with them and know how they work. It's what works for you and what you're used to that's important, not what program it is.

He spent all his money on the Mac so can't afford Logic!
Garage band is cool though. The feature set is growing and to be honest, if you know how to use it well your songs will be good.
Garage band is suitable for most I would say.

Hardrives it is then. Thanks Jarrydn!
Hello,
I wanted to know if anyone has looked into this or maybe has such a setup at home...
Solid state memore is all the rage at the moment because of transfer rates and non moving parts. I have a couple of PCI express slots on my tower at home that aren't being used and noticed that you can buy PCI express flash card readers like you find in a laptop. If I were to get one of those and store projects or samples on flash memory, would it give me better performance than using a regular hardrive? It's all looking rather cheap at the moment too. Am I overlooking anything glaringly obvious?
Id take a look at SE electronics too. They're doing some insane deals on some of their mics at the moment. I just bought a Titan which was £800 when they first brought it out. Now they're selling them cheap because they're putting it in a new body. My engineer just used it to record Skin from Skunk Anansie's new album!
Also, interesting technique for recording vocals.....

Sounds awesome! Really rounded and full sounding.
Sounds like you need a project....
Download someone's stems and try a remix.

Thanks SBB, I Got there in the end. There's a big friggin' obvious display on the Transport bar. Tells you velocity, note etc. If you use a control it will display the control number. It was #71 in this instance so I just plugged that into the modulation router.
Are you still having problems with the "audio overload" error message or did you manage to sort that out?
... Triple post.. Do I get banned for that?
Anywho. Here's one for you. I have a big MIDI controller keyboard with loads of functions. I'm trying to assign a fader to a control in the EXS24. How do I know which MIDI CTRL number my fader is putting out? trial and error would take ages as there are obviously 128 possible...
Removing the download button isn't going to eradicate piracy or people stealing stuff, no. Where there's a will there's a way. I just don't think having the option of removing the download button like on soundcloud would be a problem. If anyone wants to use a piece (legitimately) then they would PM the composer.
That Cache stuff you mention sounds nuts. I had no idea you could do that. Is it legal? Not that anyone who uses those methods would give a crap...
Why aren't artists given the option of taking the download button away then if we're aware that there are bots that rip music from this site?
Hi RRC,
You guys are doing a really nice thing for Newgrounds here. I wish I could dedicate some time to help out. Would someone be able to give my piano track a look? I'm not a pianist but I've tried to make it sound like I am! If anyone who knows a thing or two about piano music could give me some pointers, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for your time!
hello buddy,
sounds like you're overloading your harddrive. take a look at the conversation below and see if this helps!

take it easy!
Hi guys,
Apparently I submitted on the 10th of August... Have I been banned or am I coming up on the waiting list? I'm not after a quick approval, I'm happy to wait my turn but I would like to know if I've been banned and you need some more information from me.
Thanks!
Hello,
Have a look through these. There'll be one you like the look of amongst this lot
I see you were refering to acoustic guitars before dude and in that case guitar tops do make a larger difference to the overall tone. Sorry about that.
But to OP. If you want to be a bass playing disco producer, then learning a little slap really would not hurt. That is one of the defining features of disco music after all.
At 8/25/11 10:26 AM, SBB wrote: The main factors for sound are the material of the strings (nylon or steel) and the wood of the body (especially the top).
Sorry dude the top doesn't have an awful lot to do with the sound. The body is a lot thicker and provides a lot more of the instrument's character and tone. The top is for decoration only really.
Oh and slap is a tired gimmick and an abomination.
Not sure about that one either. There is some amazing slap stuff out there. Stuart Zendo from Jamiroquai will learn you a thing or two. And check out Square Pusher. Outstanding bass player.
Get a J bass. They're great for everything as opposed to say my own P bass which just growls and squeaks all the time.
... Agree that J basses are cool but P basses are cool too. P basses are classically funk and punk. They do one sound which is woody and earthy and do it very well. J basses are more varied in their sound. I'd look into 5 strings too as they allow a wider range of tones. yamaha bb514's are pretty good for the money.
Sorry for double post. Keep your sample libraries on the 2nd drive too, not just your logic save files. Keep audio files and programs seperate! Also I just noticed from the screen grab underneath your post that it does look like you use lots of cut up audio sections. Highlight them all and glue together (I've set '=' as a shortcut for this) and that will help alot.

Hello buddy. Do you have two hard drives? This tends to happen when your hard drive can't keep up with all the audio streams. There's a few things you can do...
Change the length of your audio regions so that they're not all starting at exactly the same time
Freeze tracks to free up memory
get a second hard drive and keep applications and programs on one and your logic save files on the other (saves the drive head having to quickly scan between loading data for programs and loading data for audio. Will also prolong the length of your drives!) I would say that this will make the biggest change. Terrabyte drives are like £40 at the moment as well so not very expensive.
Increasing your playback buffer will help but will incur latency. Reduce when recording live and increase when mixing.
Consolidate audio tracks. If you're anything like me, you'll end up with thousands of little slices of edited audio on a track in the arrange window. Lots of tracks with miniscule sections of audio hogs your resources and stresses out your hard drive. Highlight all audio sections on a track and bounce as one file and this will greatly help your memory consumption.
Hope this helps.
You're asking for something very specific. I would have no problem in creating something that I wanted to create without incentive. You are asking someone to take time out of their own pursuits to make something for your needs.

Crystal is nuts and there's one by Tal called Noise Maker which is quite nice too. Chunky Saws.
