It's not really fair to equaite sex before marriage toteenagers having sex. the two are seperate issues.

Just barely. Kids are having sex and getting married in their youths (and generally in that order) due to the devaluing of both.

Hell, how can anyone even claim to know a thing about this mysterious omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent deity that chooses to be so silent today? No one knows a damn thing about the divine, everyone only has their own ideas and interpretations of texts and oral traditions pertaining to a god or gods inhabiting a mythical realm that we have either no evidence or incredibly questionable "evidence" for; and based on this "evidence" (or lack thereof), people make assumptions on a topic that we really have absolutely no knowledge of whatsoever. I think that its okay to formulate our own beliefs concerning the divine, but it annoys me when people try to pass these personal assumptions off as fact.

What were some of those reasons? I usually only hear about slavery or the South being pissed that Lincoln could get elected with virtually no southern votes.

I think what parents should teach is general morality which most philosophies, religions and laws in this country agree on (don't steal, don't kill, be nice to people, etc.). I think that the parents should then introduce their children to general concepts and ideas of religions, philosophies and laws from around the world and let their children choose want they want to belief wise.

Sure, you might want your kid to go to church and stuff with you and be a good Christian (assuming you're a Christian parent), but if you force the Bible and dogma down their throat, they'll usually grow to hate it and resist it. The best thing to do is teach and persuade.

If the citizens of another country is allowed in our election, than we should be allowed to vote in their country!

Are you talking about people who immigrate illegally and vote while still illegal immigrants? If so, no one, not even the Liberals, is trying to make it so illegal immigrants can vote in elections.

Or are you talking about people with dual citizenship voting?

people who believe in religion are ignorant. They wouldn't even know a god exists if it weren't for the fact that they were being spoon fed gospel every day for thier entire life.

The fact that you believe in the god that you were taught exists and don't believe that any other religion could be right make you infact the blindsided one.

Um, I wasn't spoon-fed gospel and whatnot in my youth and I believe in God. While I myself feel that there needs to be a certain separation of church and state, I don't tend to use the whole, "Give onto Caesar what is Caesar's" argument. What Jesus said to the Pharisees in that instance could be, I feel, only very loosely interpreted to apply to church-state separation.

I don't know why Jesus wouldn't support a state where there was religious freedom and a separation of sorts between the church and state.

Response to: The Metric System Posted November 28th, 2006 in Politics

I think we should slowly do a transition. We should have both SI and Imperial units, slowly moving away from Imperial and into SI. Using SI units for things like international trade, importing, exporting, etc. would be easier and cheaper because we wouldn't have to convert all of our goods from Imperial to SI every time we export to a country which uses SI.

Of course, I think that in the worlds of sports and everyday little measurements that Imperial units can be kept; or not, I could give a care either way there.

Response to: What Political Class Are You? Posted November 27th, 2006 in Politics

At 11/26/06 10:09 PM, SirXVII wrote: 1. How should this nation treat buisnesses and corperations?

I think that businesses and corporations should be closely watched by the government, but given a fair amount of freedom with relatively little regulation. There needs to be a balance between business, government and labor/citizenry. If one of the three becomes too powerful and/or corrupt, the country could easily be sent into turmoil.

2. How should government treat the poor, those without health care, those who cannot afford college, and those who have no where to live?

I think the government should try to educate the poor, unemployed and/or homeless. Other than that, I believe that it's mostly up to the citizenry to provide money to the needy. Of course, there are times when the government might need to intervene in extreme cases of neglect where there's no real chance of the situation getting any better soon.

As for those who cannot afford college and the issue of health care, I can't really give an opinion that I can pretend is informed, I simply haven't looked into those issues that much recently; I've been focusing my attention more on political, religious and/or philosophical movements and key leaders of them in various countries.

3. How should government treat public education?

Ugh. In a lot of areas, the whole thing's a mess. Parents, teachers and students need to work harder and be less apathetic for one thing. The government should also stop slashing into educational programs. I think their need to be more specialty schools around the secondary education level to teach kids who excel in certain academic areas how to use those skills in a small variety of jobs most suitable for them; although that's an idea I've been toying with lately.

4. How should government treat the seperation of church and state? Should it be stricter? Should it be looser?

The government should respect the beliefs and practices of those who are either religious or secular. If a child has to miss school because of a religious holiday or event, then they should be excused from school on the days that they have to miss. I don't think that there's a place for the Ten Commandments in non-religious schools or courts of law. It just doesn't seem to fit to me in general. Also, I think Intelligent Design should be part of a class on, let's say, Philosophy. Intelligent Design has no place in a SCIENCE class; and to me that's more of a separation of philosophy and science than church and state.

That's about all I have to say about that.

5. How should government respond to the majority? How should they respond to the minority?

I think individual representatives should stay with their constituency and campaign promises; and focus on what's best for the nation as a whole. Politicians should try to serve the majority, but in a way that allows the minority to still be happy and free (unless said minority is radical and militant).

6. If a minority idea conflicts with a majority idea then how should government respond to it?

They should try to do what they believe is best for the nation and/or what their constituency wants.

7. How should government treat religion, race, and cultures in this country?

They should treat them with respect and try to unify them as one, hopefully prosperous, nation.

8. What about drugs? Should the be legal or illegal? Should pot be legal or illegal?

Eh, I think that they should all be legal, but with heavy regulation and taxation; perhaps even bump up some of the age limits into the mid-to-late twenties for drugs like heroine and meth.

I'd prefer kids getting high off some weed than some kids dying from the choking "game."

9. What are the main things you think government should provide?

Protection, unity, a feeling that something might actually get done.

10. In general, what are the major things you think your tax money should be used for?

Education, public works, perhaps some of it sent to charities or given as aid to needy areas (preferably the aid would be used to try establishing infrastructure).
