Promoting yourself as the greatest artist is just not a very smart idea, so I would recommend against it.

All input is greatly appreciated, and for my unknown reasons, I hope to put these lists to good use.

Thanks for the help!

Personally, I think this is a monumental task to take on but I'll try to point you in the right direction.

In case you haven't already checked it out, I recommend checking out the Flash Portal History to see a list of movies/games that have made NG history, and the artists behind them. We can all jot down our favorites artists/submissions but I honestly believe, you'll find a comprehensive list of popular artists through these pages.

You can also check out the Newgrounds Top Rated Artists list for another source.

I mean I know to use a mask. And when I do on stage it shows the outline of the object masked and I can see the pattern behind, but when I play it the pattern shows through the center of the character, like I want it, but then I no longer have my outlines. ?:/

Anyone have ideas?

I know of one flash artist by the name of MorrowDays that occasionally dabbles in the pattern effect you speak of in his movies, for example:

Are these alright to flag as abusive? My reasoning for flagging a review such as this is:

1) It doesn't help the author at all
2) Regardless of if something SHOULD be on Youtube or not, I don't think it's the reviewer's job but how we vote.
3) How does a review that basically says "You need to put this here" supposedly effective?

This is entirely my opinion, but I feel it will depend upon the intent of that review. If the review is found to be offensive/abusive say.. "Get this shit off of Newgrounds! This belongs on Youtube!" or "Tittle back to Youtube! Foo' >:-(" It's almost certain that it would be deleted.

But if the review is found to be more helpful say.. "You got some great points going on here... dig the story...but I think you'd benefit more through submitting through youtube" then I would be more lenient toward it.

In short, ask yourself if you find the review abusive in nature.

People have their own taste as to why they're living in Hawaii. It may look like "shit" in certain parts of the Island (speaking for Oahu) but the same can be said of any civilized city thanks to Urban development. Each island sports its own unique features i.e. experiencing the wet and dry side of the Big Island.

And although the weather may get plenty hot and humid at times, we do receive the cool NE tradewinds to offset it. Hawai'i isn't for everyone, and does sports its own share of negative points but like anywhere else; you just gotta know where to look.

If not, then why? Hasn't anyone other than me thought that the spam is getting out of hand?

And if by chance this has already been covered, and explained as to why nothing is going to be done about the spam that gets through, would anyone mind explaining to me what I apparently missed?

I apologize ahead of time if this has already been covered and I'm wasting someone's time, but any info would be appreciated.

There doesn't exist mods that governs what goes in and out of the portal as that would (in my opinion) give too much power/control on this site. The process has always been traditional up to the under-judgement voting. We do however have reviews mods such as Malachy who works to prevent the spam crews/individual from stealing awards.

Since Newgrounds's motto is Everything, by Everyone; spam flashes will unfortunately always co-exist. Not all spam flashes are malicious and the malicious spam flashes are usually handled by Wadefulp when whistled while underjudgement.

File swapping or alternate accounts voting may usually be the case as to how a spam movie may have been passed but it's up to the general audience. Some users actually thrive on spam flashes.

We do however have a portal watch team that have personal contact with Wadefulp through messaging that reports any maliciousness spam flashes that demands his attention.

Now saying all this, it's impossible to govern every possible spam flash as it likely comes in hundreds per day. ;-)

I thought this was a non abusive review. So if their was a better way I could of said that (it sucked really badly but if the author actually devoted some time to it, it would of been decent) I'd like to hear it if possible.

As far as I see it, you stating " it would of been worth watch at least a little." was as you say, a bit harsh.

You had good intentions to state " get some practise, spend a bit more time on a project" but perhaps that's too general of a tip. You can review on the specifics on the flash movie/game on what you liked/didn't like and how it could improve; say "working on your timing of motion-tweening" or "Practice on drawing figures/background".

It's very helpful to the author if you could provide some form of valuable feedback so that they can learn from it and apply it toward their next project.

Or well, I guess they are, but it might be good for the newer users to know this, since seeing a review saying "WTF wai iz dis frontpage" on a submission that clearly is not frontpaged anymore is a tad confusing, not just for newbs but in general as well.

I feel urged to ask since the lower end of the review spectrum on these submissions are practically full of these "why frontpage" - reviews that still hang around.

To answer your question, yes; reviews that question "How did the submission get frontpaged?" is still abusive at all times. Cheers!

A tip I can offer you is that your jump attacks can avoid the saws and PyschoGoldfish's ground slam. You can also use the enemy's saw attacks to your advantage by lining up the actionscripters, getting in range of their saw attack, and hastily move about in a roundabout fashion. This should allow the saws to strike your foes whilst you evade. Good luck.

whoa... I've just read through the pages and have been reminiscing on all the stories and moments that many users have mentioned. It's great to see a thread like this in the open and glad to see so many old timers of Newgrounds in one thread.

I myself haven't been active on Newgrounds for the most part. I was actually quite a Club & Crew nut back in 2003 when that particular C&C forum was created. I don't know if anybody here (aside from gfox) that knew about the Club-a-club-a-club. Ha, it was a club that was created by Poxpower to act as a parody against the newly formed clubs on that age. We basically fooled around, talked stories, and proceeded to be as disorderly as possible. Members included would-be mods Poxpower, aviewaskewed, Hulk, Star_Clever, and I. Good times...

Well, not to list all the memories in one go; I'll like to list one other.

I remember the thread in which Ramagi was congratulated as the first user to reach the milestone of Supreme Commander, it sparked quite a celebration in the general forum. You can say that day belonged to Ramagi.

Well, now I like to post my old Club-a-Club-a-Club sig (created by Hulk) from many years back, for old times sake.

Topic: What Makes A Good Defense Game ?

Posted: 01/16/09 01:22 AM

Forum: Flash

Judging from your screenshot, it looks to be a promising and stellar game! I do enjoy a bit of space defense everyone once in a moon so I'll voice my opinion on this.

At 1/15/09 12:10 PM, PvtAntoine wrote: I've been working on a solo project for the last month now and it's going really well, the biggest part of work is done and I'm glad of the result so far. I'm actually working on a space invasion defense game, I know, it sounds boring and not so original but that's the point of posting this thread, I wan't to know what you guys appreciate from defense games.

Things I would like to know :

What's keeping you playing and playing ?

For me, its the sense of accomplishment + discovering "upgrades". There could even be mix rounds say..climaxing toward the end of the level (survive for X minutes, defeat X amount of enemies, etc.) it's really all boils down to replay value, and gameplay mechanics.

What kind of enemies would be great challengers ?

I understand if enemies are typically making a B-line to the fortress, but if you could somehow program the enemies to move in a orthodox manner (zigzag, circling the perimeter, etc) that would make for a uncanny challenge. Other challenging foes could force you to move through the type of enemy firepower to even an small "area of effect" that you must dodge. But I believe, its is the bosses that makes for a great challenge.

What's the right difficulty ?

This will depend but if you can get some beta testers to give you some feedback, you might be able to get a general feel of the pace. I feel starting off without feeling overwhelmed makes for a enjoyable experience.

What are the most annoying things in defense games ?

Hmm, probably if the gameplay mechanics are all awry, say no collision detection. Or if the gameplay felt stale and unrewarding.

At 1/15/09 06:38 PM, kris008 wrote: what i mean is you buy somthing new and then you can perchace upgrades for that particular thing e.g. extra guns, armour, paint, shield, etc...but when you purchace an upgrade for that item you can actually see then added onto it. i love that kinda stuff.
and the more customizables and upgrades in the game the better in my opinion, the bigger the 'shop' is the better! the most important thing for me in a defence game.

I have to agree with the points he made. In addition, i think perhaps gamers are looking for diversification in weapons, armour, abilities(?). Giving the player the option of choice. Of course, all of this would give only give you a bigger list-to-do. So please do be careful of "biting off too much for you to chew." Cheers, and good luck on your production.
