I'm aware some people seem to have a disdain for landing heel-first but never bothered to ask: what's the issue exactly? I've always found that as long as I'm not landing flat or over extended it's not a problem and toe/heel each have their merits pertaining to distance, running style, gradient etc.

to be completely honest, the whole heel strike argument seems to be much-ado about nothing. Experienced heel gliders are able to run as efficiently as mid-ballers. However, for beginners and extreme-distance runners, heel-striking greatly increases the chance of injury.

I'm not a distance runner though, I rarely go over 10k so I'm not too concerned with this sort of thing.

John Gruber on the new iPad (NB: I shouldn't have refered to the new iPad as the iPad 3 in the topic title, Apple are discontinuing this trend).

"No other company could today produce something like this new iPad. Not at these prices, at these quantities, at a worldwide scope, with a content ecosystem and user experience of the iPadâEUTMs quality. Apple is in a league of its own, and the iPad exemplifies it.

Two years after announcing the original iPad, Apple has produced a version that simply blows that original model away in every single regard. ItâEUTMs faster, itâEUTMs thinner, it feels better in hand, it supports LTE networking, and yet battery life is better. The retina display is simply astounding to behold. Eight days from today theyâEUTMre shipping a product that two years ago would have been impossible at any price, and theyâEUTMve made it look easy.

Nothing is guaranteed to last. The futureâEUTMs uncertain and the end is always near. AppleâEUTMs position atop the industry may prove fleeting. But right now, Apple is Secretariat at the Belmont. And the company, to a person, seems hell-bent on not letting any competitor catch up."

Paying $25 for an American Apparel, standard cut, graphic printed t-shirt (i.e incredibly basic, unfashionable and probably going to end up being used as leisurewear) in support of what I deem a good cause is a-ok by me. I make enough money to cover bills and can afford the odd splurge every now and then.

Paying $25 dollars for an American Apparel...etc and then paying $30 for shipping (none of which would go to said good cause) and then paying 3% tax (despite the fact I don't live in America) is stretching my budget too far.

Call me a penny-pinching prude but whatevs.

Response to: Kony 2012 Posters Posted March 8th, 2012 in General

Here you go: free full size posters.

Like you, I was initially planning on buying a t-shirt from the online store in support of the cause but the price doubled when shipping was included so I pulled out (not exactly made of money these days).

Instead, me and a few others intend to take part in the poster campaign, targeting our university and then the capital city.

MG Seigler nails this point pretty hard as well actually:

"For whatever reason, weâEUTMre wired to only think something is truly new if it looks completely different. But that line of thinking is foolish. Apple didnâEUTMt change the form factor of the device because it works. They have the sales figures to prove it. You donâEUTMt call back your homerun and say you wanted a double instead.

No other tablet is close to the iPad right now. That was true yesterday, itâEUTMs even more true today. If and when that changes, thatâEUTMs when Apple will undoubtedly switch things up from a design perspective. ThereâEUTMs no use in competing against yourself. Lure the competition to come to you as youâEUTMre about to sprint the other way. Next year"

At 39 minutes ago, OneBrownShadow wrote: It does not support flash.
probably because most flash videos of this era are far to powerful for the ipad to efficiently run it at laptop speeds.

Apple would rather have people complain about ipad not supporting flash than people saying "this device sucks at playing flash videos and loading flash based websited i love egoraptor shit."

The iPad sold 15.4 million units last quarter. That was more than any PC manufacturer sold of their entire (flash-supporting) PC line worldwide.

Something tells me people don't care.

Isn't newgrounds made out of adobe flash?
does that mean ipad can't browse NG?

I can browse NG on my iPad. I can't watch flash submissions though. If I wanted to, I could buy an app from the app store for £5 that lets the iPad emulate a fully-fledged PC (i.e run flash), I don't see the point though.

If the used ipad 2 price doesnt drop below 240 i might consider obtaining this overpriced toy.

FYI the ipads plants vs zombies version has a zen garden. 9.7 inch screen? yes ohh gawd yess yess stick it in

Apple iPad 3 Posted March 8th, 2012 in General

Apple have released the 3rd generation model of the wildly successful iPad. This is slightly old news but i've only just gotten around to watching the keynote.

Despite the hub-hub, hype, anti-hype, scepticism, predictions, pre-predictions and general fanfare of the tech media in the run up to the event (took place yesterday on March 7th), I feel genuinely enthused and supportive of the product.

By far the greatest feature of the new iPad is the retina display, which allows the tablet to display more pixels than HD televisions. It's incredible.

I challenge anyone to watch this product video and not be impressed by the engineering of the iPad 3.

But srsly, what do you guys think of it?

The majority of responses in this thread seem to run by the logic:

"Well I don't really do much with email so I don't care if they start monitoring them"

This is wrong. Bad bad bad.

If you're opposing censorship/digital privacy infringements purely because of their effect upon you, then you detracting from the resistance movement's credibility.

If you're opposing censorship/digital privacy infringements, it should be because of ethical disagreements, not because your worried about getting caught.

Full disclosure, i'm pretty apathetic about digital privacy.

But don't forget it hast to have the same, fantastic UI design, innovative industrial engineering and anal attention to product detail.

Attempting to fool others into thinking you're more affluent than you are is stupid at best. Regardless, those attracted by wealth are usually not worth the trouble so have your cake and eat it if you want.

To look more attractive, lose some/most of the chub and replace it with muscle definition.

Wearing anything hooded past your teenage hood doesn't give off an aura of "well put together". Buy a glossy magazine or two and start learning about fashion if that's what your after.
