Response to: Has Anybody Here Ran A Marathon? Posted June 28th, 2010 in General

Oh ok, guess I didn't provide enough personal information in OP

I foolishly neglected to mention that i'm actually aiming for a half marathon this year.

My previous running experience, well I run most days of the week (5). My run distances vary throughout the week in distance and pace, shortest being 14K and the longest being 20K. I think I can cope with the mental aspect as i've trained pretty hard mentally for other things before like cycle from Glasgow to Edinburgh as part of Pedal For Scotland (52 miles). I swim 2-4K each day for lung capacity training as that is definitely my weakness.

Err, don't really know what else to say.

Has Anybody Here Ran A Marathon? Posted June 28th, 2010 in General

I'm planning on running my first marathon later this year and i'm just wondering if anybody else has on NG. I'm not sure if i'll be doing the Dubai one or London yet, but i'm training for Dubai just in case.

If you haven't ran a marathon, what is the furthest distance you have ran? I don't suppose anybody here has ran an ultra-marathon?

Any tips?

The exact opposite thereof.

She may be pop but shes a more than capable singer, pianist and songwriter, if you want me to provide links to examples then I will with pleasure :D

She has also significantly outsold Ke$ha
Being around longer will help anyone in record sales.

This is a somewhat valid point, but GaGa continues to outsell Ke$ha.

They both suck ass with their uninspired, unoriginal, trying-too-hard crapfest.

Ke&ha doesn't try hard, she really doesn't. Her performance on SNL was tired and lame.

Lady GaGa, by a longshot. She is both a capable pop superstar, and a musician, you need only see her acoustic performances such as this oneto see that she'd wipe the floor with Ke$ha if they had to compete without sonics. She has also significantly outsold Ke$ha and doesn't need to have a fucking dollar sign in her name to be iconic, instead, she does performances like this.

Yes, because your sign-up date, thoughts, your blog, your user level, etc. are all respectable and meaningful.
yours aren't though

sorry to burst your bubble
My stats: 1,500+ posts, signed up in '06, a great year for NG users. I also happen to have a higher level than you, you don't have medals, and I have a substantial amount of them, etc.

The list goes on and on. I really have no reason to see why you should have any serious sway around here when it comes to your own personal opinion, Mr. Plunger. :P

I don't see why everybody sees stats as being important. The first point that people usually raise is that it shows dedication to the community and site etc. But you have no way of telling how long a user frequented the site for before they made an account, we have no way of telling how many accounts a user has. Sign up dates, are almost entirely irrelevant. I could say i've been visiting this site since 1999 (I haven't) and nobody can prove otherwise.

Levels are also vaguely irrelevant, due to the chance that users have more than 1 account, levels are a poor indicator of how active a user is amongst the flash segment, they could vote on 5 submissions each day, they could vote on 500, levels do not distinguish between this. It can take about 20 seconds to deposit experience.

Post counts are also slightly silly, if someone has 10000 posts, whats to say that 75% weren't quotes saying yeah I agree or lol or caps of their desktop. If someone has 100 posts, whats to say that their posts aren't some of the best amongst the BBS, well thoughts out, constructive and intellectually provocative?

I don't give a shit about stats, I look at peoples posts.

Response to: Classical Music Posted June 28th, 2010 in General

I'd highly recommend all of Max Richter's work, even the soundtrack he did for Waltz With Bashir. He isn't entirely classical and does use some more contemporary instrumentation and technique, but the beauty of tracks such as Vladimirs Blues and On The Nature Of Daylight is irrefutable.

Response to: I think I hate obese people.. Posted June 28th, 2010 in General

I don't necessary dislike fat people, I dislike fat people who are apathetic about their condition.

If they wan't to live a healthier life style and are taking steps towards it, good for them, thats constructive. I can also relate to a certain extent, i've been trying to gain weight since new year, and i've made very little progress. But I don't complain about it and give up.If they just complain about people being judgmental and shit without taking any constructive action, then that irritates me.

The thing that gets me most about obesity is, it's in 80% of cases, self inflicted, self inflicted via a lack of self control. It's the lack of control and discipline that I find most repulsive on a characteristic level. I also find excess body fat to be unattractive : / so yeah.

I don't have a problem with overweight people, unless they complain without taking constructive action.

I'm not 'hating' newgrounds or anything, I'm just thinking about how the forum might be better.

I've never gotten into trouble for "bumping" threads because the posts I make in them are always relevant to the subject mater. According to the rules you can only get into shit for "bumping" if what you post contributes nothing of any significance to the thread and just puts it on the front page. Quoting somebody and saying I agree probably would cause shit, but writing a new post with new material probably wouldn't

If there can only be one thread about a subject, then after a while it's impossible to make a new thread anymore, cause everything has already been discussed once.

Now I hope that I don't get banned..

But there is no need to make a new thread to have the same discussion, you can just post in the older version of the thread. It makes it much simpler because you can see everything in one thread instead of hunting around everywhere. Think how chaotic it would be if a different thread was made for every football world cup match

Response to: Videogames art? Posted June 27th, 2010 in Video Games

I think video games are more a form of entertainment than a form of art. Maybe in time they will develop to art but I think right now, they lack the maturity of other art forms.

The only thing that bothers me about her songs are those really annoying repetitions of syllables. A really good example is Poker Face, another one being Bad Romance, etc. Though Bad Romance is a much better song.

Oh, ok I understand your point. I think that they usually make insanely catchy hooks, especially when married up with the right melody. I think Poker Face and Bad Romance are equally solid pop tracks. Although I find the sonics a lot more interesting in Bad Romance because of the different depths of sound. If you listen to it through a high quality sound system (i'm a bit of an audiophile) then you begin to appreciate the level of quality in the production.

What did you think of the Poker Face I linked? I like the one you linked :D

Ok, you've yet to get back to me on this yet, but imma just carry on.

I think that this performance of the song really summarises everything that I like about the song (for some reason the intro is missing, all of poker face is there but there was a short scene before hand that explained the basic premise of the fame factory). It has a great stomping beat in the foreground and the incredibly infectious hook providing a backing track, to me, it just seems like classic dance pop. What is in particular that you don't like about Poker Face? I think it's an odd track to particularly dislike, I would understand Just Dance or Speechless, but i've never heard somebody single out Poker Face before.

It's quite complicated, the best summary I can think of would be: I had to move out here to live with my mum after my dad kicked me out.
Make a list of sentences of the highlights of the journey. Start the day before you were kicked out and end with the first person you met in Dubai.

You see that wouldn't really work unfortunately, a lot of why I moved happened before I was kicked out and after I arrived here. There was only actually like a 2 day period in between "no, your not staying here anymore" and "welcome to dubai".

The basic gist is, I live with my mum until i'm 13, my dad uses the law to force me to live with him, me and dad really don't get along, fuck this, back with mum at 16.
