Oh, Ed, you're like Shaft, but white... and short... and not as cool... and you don't fight crime... actually, you're nothing like Shaft.

There's only so many insults a man can take in one sentence.

1.) Yes, I'm white; but I'm swarthy.

2.) I'm taller than you are, by quite a lot I might add. So fuck you.

3.) I'm cooler because my name isn't a synonym for "penis".

4.) I fight crime sometimes. Usually when I'm asleep.

5.) Yeah.

It would be quite tricky to add multiplayer functionality to a game of this type - of course it would have to be online/networked, as you just can't have split screen top-down scrolling maps, heh. Plus you'd be using too many buttons on the keyboard to share.

Car dealerships I haven't thought about. Seeing as it's going to be so easy to just *steal* a car, I don't think anyone will bother buying one. Although I could have dealerships with loads of cars in a car park.. and you can just steal them. Heh. Yeah, I like that.

Aeroplanes aren't going to be included I'm afraid. I don't really want to go that far. I figure boats, cars and bikes are enough :)

Nice idea. Although, I already had an idea for your default start vehicle :) I thought it would be nice to choose "your" car, when you're starting a new game. This car would then always be available to you at your headquarters, spawning a new one if you blew the old one up. You would also be able to upgrade this car (bigger engine, better traction, armour plating, stuff like that) over time. I thought this was a pretty neat idea :)

Steve: I like the mini-game idea. Would make a nice change if the gameplay gets a little repetitive. I'll look into what things are doable.. I take it you were thinking sort of Splinter-Cell lock picking, aye?

Raven: Hello :) Where are you hanging out nowadays?

Liquidmaycry: I like that idea a lot. It would just make the game.. "cooler", heh. Like if you knew that you were really having an effect in the game. Unfortunately, the news reports would need to be made beforehand.. so there would be a finite number of things you could do that would get on the news. I had a thought of perhaps having a PC in your headquarters, and you could have news on there? Or maybe in a newspaper? That way I could include just about anything you did in the next days news, seeing as I'm logging stats such as number of people shot/stabbed/run over/etc.

What do you think?

Might have some kids on the street who have skateboards, could be a nice addition. Although if people on the street have skateboards, everyone would whine about not being able to use one yourself.

I mean, if you do, you might want to invest more on that, and not too much on the graphics, because it would cost too much space.

Some general ideas:
1) You can do it like the first GTa with the missions, that you get it from a payphone, but you can also invent another way, some ideas on that one:
1. A cell phone you have, and you get the numbers of the crime bosses once you met them, or you get it from someone directing you to them.
2. You can meet them personally, more like GTA VC and GTA SA style

2) The weapons, well, make it basic, not too many, but a couple though, like the classics:
Basball bat, Shotgun, handgun, MP5, Uzi's, that kind of thing, like go a bit old school on GTA

3) The area, you can make it the ghetto but that in time you move onto the big city, and go up andf up and when you get to the end, you're like a kingpin who just sends his men to their goal, that idea is something you can take up further, seeing the size, you can do a first part and a second, in the first you work your way up to kingpin, and in the second part you make an entirely other gameplay where you simply do the management over the crimes, it's a fun idea.

I hope I helped

Thanks for all the feedback.

Missions I'm still not yet sure one. I kinda of want to steer clear of the original "have a gangster boss, get a mission, move up a rank" kinda thing. I was thinking of perhaps the player being his OWN boss, and starting out a new company (unsure of the company at the moment). The objective of the game being to gain a market share by outselling and screwing over your rival companies (we're talking real underhandedness here, that's where the fun comes in, heh).

The area I wanted to have everything. I thought it would be nice to have a lot of different scenery on the map, divided into separate districts. For example, there'd be an industrial district (lots of derolict warehouses, train yards, factories etc), downtown (quite up market, shops and bars etc), suburbs, docks, a red light district of some kind, a really poor area, some countryside between cities perhaps (if there's more than one city). Know what I mean?

The weapons you're right on, I'm going to be sticking with the basics, but will make their effects lots of fun :)

It's a neat idea, but I don't want to make the game too esoteric. I'd like it to appeal to lots of people, so it's probably a better idea to come up with a new (fictional) setting for it.

As for unzipping your pants when you're on fire - You really do love Postal 2! I thought about the ability to assault people on the street, heh.. maybe that's going a bit too far though.

Different types of citizens I had already thought about yes. There will be different types in the game - including children (oh yes, you can hurt children!) and stray dogs/cats and rats. Each citizen wil have a different amount of money according to what kind of person they are and a stochastic function.

Evark: Thought about boats, they will Probably be in the game although I haven't thought about the layout of the map yet and where there'll be water. You will also be able to swim :)

BananaBreadMuffin: Very neat idea, heh. Funny noises are always funny when clubbing people with something - like an old rotary telephone for example. *ding*! The trouble comes when you can just pick up so many different weapons (as in Vice City) things start to get a little annoying. I'll have a think about that one..

.40 basicly like 9 mil, but hits harder, bit harder to handle.
Shotgun
Machine gun
.50 rifle (badass)

Keep it simple and manageable.

There would have to be breaks between shots (reloading and stuff), which is dependant on the weapon and the weapon using skill (which would go up by using guns, but wouldn't be visible)

I hadn't thought of a rifle (and I'm definitely using that) :D

As for the breaks between shots for reloading being dependent on the weapon, and a skill for weapons which increases with use of guns. Well, it's a little more complex than I was thinking of going with weapons. I mean I could do it, but I don't think it would bring much to the game, in fact I think having to reload and "build up" your weapon using skill might annoy quite a few people. In just a shooting game it's a good idea, but I think for a top down game with lots of other features it's just a little too in-depth.

JohnnyWang: Gangs are something I've thought about. I'm not sure what exactly the game will be based on though. I like the idea of being hated and protected in different areas of the city(ies). I don't really want it to be the same as GTA2 with doing missions for gangs though.

FishyJap: Destroying things is great fun, although the trouble is when to renew something if it has a use and has been destroyed. Eg: You don't want to accidentally blow up all the ATM's and have no way of taking money out, heh. I like the ATM idea though, I could structure money so that you can bank it or carry it around with you - or would that just get on people's nerves, having to go to the bank or a machine all the time?

Evark: I see what you're saying about the weapons. I totally agree, and have just the basics at the moment (fists, knife, pistol, machine gun, flamethrower, rocket launcher). And yes, I had the same ideas about cars too - lots of different handling.

I also thought you could choose "your" car at the start, which is always available to you from wherever your HQ is (spawns a new one if you destroy it). That's something I've always wanted from GTA.

Missions are of course a must, but it won't be in the style of having a boss and getting phonecalls I don't think. I was thinking perhaps starting up a business and trying to outdo competition.

Ok, so it has been a long, long time since I have posted anything on the Newgrounds BBS.

To those who know who I am - Hello :)

And to those who don't - Err. Hello :)

Anyway, down to business. I have decided to make a Flash game (most of the development will take place over the extremely long summer break I have, although I already have some prototype game engines).

To sum up, it's based on the original GTA in Flash, but with one important difference - It isn't going to suck like all the other GTA-esque Flash games I've played. You might be thinking well what's the point in making GTA in Flash? It's a good point, and my answer that is that it isn't GTA in Flash, as it will have lots of features not featured in the original. I have lots, and LOTS of ideas for this game, and you're probably thinking that the whole thing will never actually get released (people who know me will especially be thinking this :D); BUT IT WILL!

Now what I need you guys to do, seeing as you'll be my target audience, is to give me a list of all the things you would like to see in the game. Features, gameplay additions, weapons, cars, characters, abilities, map features (districts/cities/etc), even a name for the game as I have not come up with one yet. Just about anything you can think of.

If it's an idea I haven't thought of and I decide to use your idea in the game, you will of course get full credit - Some may even receive a cameo role :)

Those who submit useful ideas (whether I use them or not) will also be chosen to beta test the game engines I create, so that I can gain a lot of feedback and tailor how the game plays to what people like.

Just to let you know of the scope of this. I plan for this game to be of a very high standard, and will hopefully be able to Market it in some way; the loyal users of Newgrounds of course having a full version in the Portal.

Add all this up, and I should have a game that everyone will enjoy. Please take the time to reply, it will be much appreciated :)
