I don't like to pick vet posts apart here but here's the thing:
Newgrounds is a flash animation website.
I understand you're on about "flash animation website" a la AlbinoBlackSheep, Ebaumsworld, and other sites floating around in the hay day 12 years back. But the point is that we were founded as a Flash animation website and we became popular not just because of the model of such but because it was "user driven." Hark back to the early 2000s, when Usenets, AOL chatrooms, YTMND, and Askjeeves were things - think, "what websites used a user driven content system... ?"
Heavenduff, that was my point. Our purpose was not exclusively animation, it was that we had a user driven content system that really helped Newgrounds take off. And it is in this site's history. YouTube stole this concept and this is why I relented to @andrewstelevisionNG that he shouldn't "sing it like it's his anthem," because it's so easy to get lost on why someone should not like a website. The point stands I SEE what you're saying but I am not going to really listen because my explanation should drive the point I am trying to make.
That's kind of a big difference, especially considering how YouTube is mostly about live action, at least when it comes to original material.
YouTube is not just mostly about live action. In fact, YouTube isn't really about anything at all beside the point I made.
If you remember the dark age of 2004/2005, you will remember that videos were indeed a thing. But sharing a video was easy - PLAYBACK was a bitch because there wasn't really any true video players besides Quicktime which was totally garbage. Flash was also an alternative to make videos, but due to the size constraints -- videos were often very low quality.
YouTube did this before NG even came up with the concept of embedded external Flash videos - which was the ease of sharing videos online and how YouTube became popular. These two websites function in the exact same regard, except that Newgrounds utilizes a quality standard type of system versus the "everyone can do it!" idea.

Uh. No. Newgrounds is a website that USES Flash Player, but it is not strictly a "Flash animation" website. It has not been since the audio portal was a thing over a decade ago. It also has a variety of different file formats that it takes compared to YouTube, making it a versatile internet medium for the artist and viewer. In addition to .swf we take:
mp4,mov,avi,m4v,ogg,ogv,wmv,mkv,webm,flv,3gp
(excluding image formats)
YouTube combines all elements of formats (though is strict on what constitutes as an upload) as long as it is in YouTube form, but you completely missed the point. It's about the AUTHOR of the work and the VIEWER secondary. Both websites function in this regard that it is user driven content. It is also broadcast to a wide audience, and that's exactly what both websites serve as a function for. Therefore they are similar websites -- same in many regards.

There's some pretty hilarious Let's Plays assuming you don't want to shell out the $5 to buy the garbage some of them play. For instance this guy Markiplier wasn't very interesting to me until I watched a couple of his Let's Plays, but he actually edits the footage and cuts out all the bullshit so you get the cream of the crop.
Unfortunately I don't think "let's plays" are the generation gap, it's just the style that the gamer demonstrates how stupid or ridiculous something is and they rely on their reaction to the stupidity. 95% of YouTube Let's Plays are low quality, mundane, and boring, and stupid.

Not true, the two websites function in that the artist/author broadcasts to an audience and can monetize so they basically serve the same modern function. they were much different in 2005/2006, but NG is more lenient on content control compared to YouGross

And he was the original reason I first went to newgrounds on December 31, 2003! DBZ in a nutshell, that's the first thing I ever saw on newgrounds.
very true point - in fact, if you look at my favorites I just recently re-added DBZ in a nutshell. That guy made the stupidest animation we had all witnessed yet it was hilarious for the time, god knows why. Now yes - pan it to what he's doing now, it's like he's a burnt out lazy ass that has drained his little fountain of creativity. So burnt out he's trending shitty Let's Play videos with hardly amusing commentary, boring video games, and depreciated video production.
I think it's because he's already made his living and he won't jump out of his comfort zone anymore to appease his fans or take his skills to the next level. That right there is not a good sign for any artist, so I hope the best for Egoraptor, but as far as the NG underground goes he is just not particularly welcomed anymore. Fuck Game Grumps, I can't believe he dropped being an animator to become a mediocre video artist.

Actually this is very true, not just the dead people part but also the whole "you didn't actually like this" thing. I've seen twelve things I never liked in my entire life. That really means someone or something makes it so you randomly like just about ANY sponsored page - and trust me I know because Twitter has similar setups to gaining followers. Money will speak the tongue of false sponsorship.

I have a very awkward feeling british hip hop is already at its pinnacle which, to be very fair, it probably is not a very high point. And I will go with my gut feeling that there is nothing particularly interesting about british hip hop, given that to me it's a roots thing. And this is a roots thing.
You think it makes me look dumb? Did you know hip hop and rapping didn't technically originate from America, but were influenced by Jamaicans in the Bronx? This and the culture surrounding street gangs of America make the music have soul, and gives it the embodiment of something real... while I'm sure there's something great hiding out there in England and Wales, my response to this thread was generally sarcastic a la InsectGadget.
But my point still stands, if you are from the UK and you are an avid fan of hip hop - you should trash the shit you are hearing from the indie labels there and give the U.S's stuff a shot. It's very similar logic to enjoying rock music, if you are listening to mostly American bands - you are just not hearing the right stuff.

There was a documentary being made for NG, but I don't know what happened - I think it met its goal and it just never came out.
TomFulp never became a millionaire, though he likely did make quite a bit of money with the rest of his broz. Something the pretentious Mark Zuckerberg could never hope to achieve in this lifetime, so he also helped come up with "people" that were his "friends" in that movie. The reality being that Mark Zuckerfuck is a total snob and asshole, and TomFulp could kick his ass in a TLC Hell in a Cell Money-In-The-Bank ladder match.
At 11/26/14 05:19 PM, andrewstelevisionNG wrote: Awesome for what? For those couple of animators who ran from NG? Yeah those ones. I guess they are cool, but it doesn't make youtube awesome, for 1. it has shitty site design as for NG, holy fek it's kewl.
First: You understand why we don't like the people that "ran from" NG, but don't sing that like it's your anthem because I doubt you really understand the nature and politic of the individual's decision to do so
Second: When YouTube was starting it was no different than NG. It was user-driven suggestions as a website, it had staunch limits (100 MB or 10 minute uploads max I think it was in 2005). But this was the only website on earth that would allow video uploads with the recognizable video player attached, so the code monkeys at YouTube did something right.
Now what is WRONG with YouTube is that it is corporate drivel, powered by Google with an insane amount of money being made from monetized videos + ads. This combination has either inspired or caused NG to follow suit with the reasoning that these ads are totally ok, but at least on NG you can get Supporter status and avoid this bullshit altogether.
However the thing that has and always will bother me about YouTube is that it will kick your legs out should you break any single rule. On NG, it's still 1998 - unless your account is deleted and your IP is a known problem to the staff, you won't get exposed to this shit of demographics/banned videos/deleted content/other shit Google doesn't care about. They want to probably assassinate any Let's Play YouTuber that doesn't generate 10000 views daily, they don't care about your video if it can't go viral/doesn't come with ads, and let's not forget that videos can only push like the age of 16 as the hard limit.
This garbage makes YouTube a nuisance and a problem, it's a serious shame it died well before NG. And the ironic thing? It's probably more widely used and much more popular in terms of e-media.

PX9 is a user that was popular years ago, when drops in electronic music were just becoming cool. That being said, PX9 has far outlived their fame here, on a level of several top audio vets. Granted, their music is timeless (like the YouTube National Anthem), but PX9 will likely not return and any sign of a return may just be shortlived.
If you've noticed, the moment an artist gets noticed, they aspire and totally forget NG. PX9 is likely the same.
With that being said, I think it's also clear PX9 is also male because I vaguely remember their profile being ticked to Male years ago. It's a popularity thing to 'seem' female.
The UK has a lot more talented acts and many performance artists that do not colloquially clash with the roots of the genre that birthed it -- this being said, leave the *NSFW* hip hop and rap to the Americans, especially because British hip hop/rap has less passion than the electronic/rock music their country is pushing
