I'd say it's a fine balance between Mike Patton, Devin Townsend, Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, and Meatloaf - I cheated for this next answer, Elton John. Elton John has arguably some of the most diverse, most inspiring music right next to Meatloaf. I'd be with @Sekhem on "Prince," Prince is a good multi-instrumentalist. But skill wise, I think Josh Homme trumps him in terms of production, sound, and skill - Josh prefers bass but plays a mean lead/rhythm guitar, plays drums in Eagles of Death Metal, and while his discography has yet to meet that of Prince's - its good to say he's the modern Prince, or otherwise - the Ginger Elvis.
