COMPLETE edition of the interactive "choose next panel" comic
4.09 / 5.00 12,195 ViewsAlright everyone, here's a slightly updated version of it I made last night. It still has some things to adjust, all I did is adjust the navi, replace the tombstone with another picture (which I need to finish), and show you what it looks like with sample work (It's acedareaper's). Since you all seem weary about the BG being distracting {which, I have to agree), I figured it would be a good time to introduce the 'Dim the lights'-esque function. Click the horrible drawn circle to see it in a different 'light'. Still a WIP...
Anyway, keep the submissions coming- we need more art! Also, as acedareaper said, see if you can make Easter Eggs and if you have a spooky audio loop in the works [or already finished] share it with us!
^^ Opps, my bad. I forgot I messed around with some of the art earlier. That movie is missing some parts, namely the rest of the logo and some colored clouds. Go ahead and look at it anyway, just keep in mind nothing is set in stone and some things are missing! XD

The little tombstone thing is kinda sad looking too. If we're going for Halloween, what about something like a black cat, a bat, or ooh... a skull?! Maybe if you posted what you have so far, everyone could give feedback and stuffz!! :D
Thanks for grabbing the reins though! If there's anything I can do to help, lemme know! :D
...and yeah, we need more arts!!
Thanks for the input! The background does change, and it is still in a VERY early state. [Here is an even early version to look at, I still need to adjust colors (oh so much), smoothen transitions, and the like. [and now that I think about it I'll be re-doing the side bar]) It's coming along though. I will also have a 'Dim the lights'-esque button [more on that later]. I like your idea about the background for a box, I never liked the tombstone anyway XD.
Anyway, input is much appreciated! So keep it coming and I'll post a newer design tommorrow!! Thanks everyone!
Alright, a bit of catching up to do. I've been hard at work with the designs and such. Sorry if I miss anyone:

easter eggs would be a good idea to make too so people start making some easter eggs.
it looks good E-Yeah try a more refined look though something that would pop out at the people and still go along with the grim style.
Good tip. I've basically finished the design for the slides and I'm working on a menu. Maybe I'll post the .SWF up for everone later!

Sorry we over looked you! I'd love for you to code it (saves me a lot of work XD), I'm not very good with AS anyway. PM me your email address and I'll email the swf file to you when I finish. What version of flash do you have, and do you use AS 2 or 3?

Id make all three boxes the same width though.... that is: make the "NG user/artist" box a little slimmer.
lol Thanks for the tip, but the slightly uneven box looks better in the flash itself because the background changes colors.
Finally, thank you everyone who has submitted their art! I've seen some really cool pieces! I'm glad this is all coming together despite Genocide's absense!
Good call. A lot of people are complaining about the scouting system, and I thinks it's good to start fresh!
At 10/3/09 08:05 PM, ashman112 wrote: sorry dude but they got it down, and can i just say try a darker purple for the side the pink doesnt
:work in my view, but yeah that work
Agreed. I added the borders now (including boxes around the logo and stuff) to make things more balanced. The background will be changing colors to give it a 'mysterious' feeling, by the way. Anyway, if someone could find some Halloween-themed music from the Audio Portal, that would be a nice touch.
Finally, IF (keyword: if) I do end up making the layout for it, can we have a surfire cut-off date? ~October 27 would be nice that way acedareaper has enough time to go through the entries and I have enough time to add them to the flash. That way it can be posted on or around Halloween.
Finally, finally, here's another low-quality (slightly trimmed) picture of the flash board.
At 10/3/09 05:16 PM, acedareaper wrote: hey maybe you and i can do it if your good at making a flash board
OK, if you want too! :)
Not to get ahead of anything, because Genocide might come back, but here's a low-quality image of the WIP for what might be the flash board. I still need to add a border, finish the backgrounds, fix some images (exspecially the tombstone nav button) and such, but tell me what you think. I tried to make it go with the color pallete for the logo.

I guess if anyones interested in showing me a rough sketch of the logo, its a fox with armor (seriously, whats more awesome than that?).
Totally random, but I love the looks of that drawing! It just reminds me of a 90s cartoon character mixed with modern internet mascots! Very good job.
Anyway, just my 2 cents that I just wanted to say. Continue... :D
It would be a shame for this collab to go to waste, there has been a lot of great submissions for it! I agree that if Genocide does not come back within the next week someone should take it over.
On that note, I'd be happy to help with some of the display for the flash if the new organizer needs any help (that is if Genocide is still MIA).
How much longer is this open for, anyway? (I really need to get around to finishing my art...)
Here's the Nintendog WIP so far... (sorry for the low quality)

Correct. I did a science fair project on this a while back. I learned that how many fps the eye can see and identify actually correlates with age. At around 60 FPS, those over the age of twenty had trouble identifying images, while those around the age of 5 could identify them up to around 112 fps.
Back on topic, I usually go anywhere from 18-30 FPS depending on the animation. I use 24 fps more than most times, though.
Perhaps you should give us more info? What voices can you do? What is your range?
Maybe you could make a demo reel of your voices to show us. (There's just something about saying 'your voices' that sounds crazy, am I right?)

If you don't know any coding at all try Webs.com , if you want a free host and you know coding, try x10hosting, if you are willing to pay, 000webhost looks good (there are a lot of great paying hosts, look around for reviews).
"Cutting a character up" (I love your word choice!) is an easy way to animate, and I use it often. Although I absolutly love the look of hand-drawn, frame-by-frame animations. They look more traditional and fluid, but they take more time. I'm experimenting right now with having some parts of the body that don't change much (like the head) movieclips and then more dynamic parts (like the arms) are hand-drawn.
At 9/27/09 06:07 PM, PowerWave wrote: When people make flashes that have to do with drawing, do they draw theirs with paint, or some other program?
To make flashes, you use Flash. Thus the name! XD
At 9/27/09 06:07 PM, PowerWave wrote:
:And what is frame by frame, what are the other ways besides frame by frame?
Well, there's different types of animating. There's frame-by-frame where you just miniputlate the parts of the character to make it move, re-draw the character to make a frame-by-frame (it appears more traditional), and there's tweening, where you just draw the character at the start and end of a movement and flash will 'in-between' the movement.

:Right now, I'm at a point where I'm not sure what to do, whether to do a drawing flash or a sprite flash...
Sprite flashes are by far easiest, because there is no guess work when it comes to making the animation natural looking. But there are limitations; you can only animate what is on the sprite sheet, and you can't really make it 100% original work, unless you are a sprite artist. And even sprites usually don't look as nice.

:I'm trying to learn how to draw anime, but it's getting frustrating...
NEVER learn to draw with anime. It limits you on what you can learn. Anime characters have differing proportions and shape to them, so once you learn to draw like that it can be challenging to learn to draw with other styles. I recommend starting out learning how to draw real shapes and people, then slowly evolving into other styles (I went from realish, to anime, and now I'm obsessed with retro-style drawing, for instance). Always start out by drawing what you see (not tracing), then select a picture by an artist that you like and try to 'imitate' their style (DO NOT copy, just try to learn to draw like they do).
I would say "Happy Madness Day!", but then I realized that would be an oxymoron... ;)
Clock Day, closely followed by Pico Day.
I dunno... I'm not even much of a fan of the clocks, but I just feel like Clock Day has the most 'holiday spirit'. It's fun to submit random entrys, boost your PROTECTION Pts. by 155000000, and watch the hilarious movies some users submit.
I like Pico Day a lot, but it just isn't quite as big as Clock Day... maybe it will be one day, but for now...

Oh my gosh, I never realized this (I new most entertainers were male, but never dawned on me that that ment 1% were female XP).
Granted, there's a lot of literature... JK Rowling, Jane Austin (although some of their books are love 'em or hate 'em). A decent amount of music and acting (it's an art form, right?). And then there's DeviantART, which has a lot of girls... but when it comes to creating things like movies or animations, no one. =O
Sounds like fun, I'll give it a try! I don't have a BA as of yet, but I will posts the swfs when I have them mostly done, and then you can decide if you want them or not.
I'm currently working on a shooting mini-game featuring P-Bot, n00b flashes, and spam flashes, and an avoid mini-game. As I said earlier, I'll post the swfs once I get them done/precentable.
:Um... I own CS4 and it can't save as a Flash 8 doc... That might be a problem...
Sorry I haven't been posting my progress on my art peices. Haven't had much time to work on them, ya'know? I've worked on the Ghost/Grim dude a bit, completly re-constructed his scythe and face, and I've started the line-art for this scarecow-girl thing. I still have time to finish, though, so I'll post back later!

Might throw something together for it. 2 questions though:
1. Can we have some standards, like, perhaps not allow way to many Google images or make people have SOME sort of animation? Because I have an awful feeling this might turn into a "Random images flying across the screen with stick-figure bodies Collab". XD
2. Will there be music playing, or do we add our own sounds?
(SSB vioce) "Complete!" (...I think??)
Popichu
Nintendogs, anyone? (Serious WIP [workings on textures, touch-ups on coloring, and so on]):

On a happy note, you won't have to worry about the Swine flu anymore once you're better!
Oh also though he ment .swf animations, not sprites. That's why I asked that. ^_^;
