It's not the word, but the implied meaning. Retard means to delay or fall behind, and I've met plenty of people with normal brains, who were clearly 'left behind', chief among them would be the folks who created and marketed political correctness in the 1980's.... The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

When you mentioned the tin I was like, "Oh crap, the tin is still downstairs! People might have dug into it!" but luckily it was in-tact so it's now safely waiting for Sabs. The card idea is really cool... I wonder if people would even use them as personalized cards, if we printed them individually with the userpage URL of the user who is receiving the payment.... HMMM.

Make it (having a username on the card) an option you can check! I'm thinking orange (like the one I'm typing on) background, with raised black ink for the stock card.. then you could print the names in office? Any cards mailed to the supporters and ad-rev receivers, would go a long way in getting our love out to the brain-dead masses! Either that or make up a few ink-stamps, so we can deface dollar bills :P

Type in 'city', 'background' or any other tag-lines into the Art section of search (above right). Once you find something, ask the artists permission and/or check the Licensing Terms on the lower left hand side of the Art page. Is your work for profit or fun? Either way, be sure and credit/share profit the artist in your work.

Myself, I got about 200 spanning many decades and genres. The analog highs and lows cannot be reproduced on CD's (maybe if there's some serious software behind the decoding).

Gravity, very low light, just cold enough to be uncomfortable, no movement. You get one good shot at the bright light, then it's to the soul-compost heap, with the rest of the animals. It's lonely and empty, your thoughts slowly disintegrate, you can't move, but, there's no where to go, nothing to see.

Love and selflessness, is the only way to ascend.

Response to: What does it mean to wear a hat? Posted April 20th, 2013 in General

Read this whole thread, and no one got it.

Hats were an expression of economic, occupational, regional and marital status. At once glance, you could tell nationality or even what part of the country a person came from, and.. the other things I just mentioned. Plus there wasn't much to do inside except eat, sleep and fuck... so hats off inside! No sun, rain or blowing dust in the house, or need to publicly ID yourself. Uncovered hair on dirty (any) streets was a big no-no. It kept the animal stink out too.

Hats were the things you put on when you went out... like a status icon nowadays; day off hat, work hat, sunday church hat, office hat, banker hat, etc. It's been a civilizing device, in countless centuries past.

It was also an equalizer (for men) - bald, hairy, freaky, didn't matter, it was covered up, so we had an equal chance at attractiveness. Men took them off to ladies, to show them the quality/honesty of their hair, and for respect, yo. Older men were preferred by women and employers, for their experience, since the mortality rate was kinda shitty, so baldness wasn't necessarily a bad thing anyway.

Okay I'm done

Response to: People who take NG too seriously Posted April 20th, 2013 in General

At 4/18/13 05:11 PM, Omegeist wrote: Do you know anyone who takes Newgrounds and it's community way too seriously?

I take the people and their submissions here seriously... usually. I've certainly said things (off the BBS) that no properly sane person should believe (even though I did).

Take the time to look at the better online newsites, usually local newspapers and TV stations. The comments under the articles dwarf the BBS here. Same shit talking, same junior academics... though, their spelling and grammar are way worse at times and structurally less attractive. But, as adults, they can forgive a lot when the subject matter, matters more. They listen to all the comments, and don't get into too many pissing matches. Just a quick jab or two, then onto the next commenter.

Was I too serious?

... yes, barely. This is just a sparring ring for the more public, adult forums. Any semi-legit bullshit you receive here, is just 'motivation', to persuade you to learn how to convey your thoughts and concepts, in a more coherent manner. Tough love, bro. I'm actually quite proud of the quality of some of the posts that come through here. Some of the shit in the Political threads are just.... excruciating. Get some of those guys in a locked room with Congress, and we be aight.

Oh, also notice my post count is shit (and my opinions may also be, despite my occasional lurkings). But since I'm old and feeble of mind, no one seems to tear my balls off when I do venture here - thanks guys.

Response to: Your Worst Injury Posted April 20th, 2013 in General

It's probably extremely uncouth of me to do so, but this poor chap... http://mr-shark.newgrounds.com/news/post/838365 deserves some recognition.

I never broke any bones, and while my soft tissue injuries were bad, they ain't life threatening. Might go blind and deaf from them soon, but I'll know better in a few weeks. Side injuries to the head can... suck. Oh, yeah, it was from a car accident 2 years ago. My head cracked the drivers side window, but didn't break, unfortunately. Face stitches are just surface crap, internal injuries that are difficult to see in standard MRIs, are for over-specialized MD's (ENT-DO).. who don't take car insurance |: The local hospitals near me are such crap....

Meh, here. I felt the ass end of the car rise up considerably upon impact, since I was going downhill. Went dark and quiet after that.

The sciatic nerve pain (lower back, disc rupture) was so bad after the swelling went down... took 45 minutes to get out of bed, just to minimize the level 11 pain. Now I know why grown men scream, you just can't help it. Worst pain in my life. Operation two months ago to fix it was a blazing success, but I went through a year of pussy steroidal treatments, which had no chance of correcting the problem. Why? To prove to the insurance company this was a procedure I needed. Otherwise, they never would have approved it. And that's why insurance (in general) for kids under 21 is so high. The End. Goodnight. Watch those intersections, trust your gut and definitely not the other guy!!

No prob. That API you mentioned was released just recently by clay.io. NG has missed opportunities in the past, but they are on job when it comes to html5. PM or email Tom or Wade Fulp about this API. They are very concerned with helping the content producers (such as yourself) in anyway they can.... they really need the traffic here. The ad-bucks they make, pay for Tom Jr's formula, and Stamper's smokes.
Also consider, there's only 4 or 5 people really running NG, while the much younger YT and FB, have hundreds of high-priced guns. This is basically a peer operated/moderated website, with a shit-ton of experience.

At 4/11/13 08:32 PM, farflamex wrote: Are ads only for Flash games? Is there some way to put ads under my game on my page I'm creating for my game?
That's a good question. Same question could be applied to video submissions and html5 movies as well. Tom had mentioned in a news post (some time ago), that some special means would be deployed to compensate for a lack of in-game and in-movie ads.. but I can't see that happening. Tom has considered what you've suggested in the past, but has a set way of looking at the layout of this site.

The real question is, can html5 run a Flash ad? I imagine if you can link to a gif or jpg image, that opens a new browser tab once clicked, then theoretically yes, you can run an ad... but is that something the ad company will support?

Sorry, I don't have any good answers for you, but if you haven't already, Tom's current news post on the upper-left hand side of the Front page, deals directly with html5 content.... ask there, or be patient and wait for a more detailed response here. Other help with html5 can be found in the Developers & Programmers area of the BBS/Community page, though it's still a new programming field, that needs to build a following there.
