Midi-Copyright question Posted November 23rd, 2011 in Audio

Ive been wondering for some time now about wether or not Midi files are classified as "Recordings" when it comes to copyright.

Example: If a musical piece is public domain and you decide to use it you can either A: Re-make the piece or B: Rip a recording off a CD/Mp3.
But only A is considered "Legal" since only the piece is Public domain but the recording might not be, its like finding a PD (Public domain) sample in a Black eyed peas song and then ripping the part of the song containing the sample for your own use.

So would Midis be considered a recording? And if so, would you have to ask the originator of the file for permission to use it even if its the same notes as a PD piece?

Its currently 3:32 in the morning as im writing this. Yes, I have school tomorrow. No, I wont sleep until i have the answer.

I stopped dating a while back, every relationship I've been in I just didn't care about the other person as much as they cared about me. I think it was just about sex for me, and that made me feel shallow, so I just stopped.

I'm sure one day I'll get enough interest in another person that I'll feel comfortable dating them, but as of right now I simply don't know anyone that fits that bill.

I quit dating for the same reason, saying goodbye all those times made me feel like an asshole.
I havent been with anyone for about a year, so I think its about time I started meeting people.

I've heard that after 21, no one gives a shit about ANY of your birthdays. Except maybe the huge ones like 40.

Damn, I just turned 18 (in september... so "Just" is kinda subjective), so I should probably brace myself for some lonely night in the "near" future?

I used to be extremely prone to nightmares two years ago, mostly due to the medication I was on at the time, and when I say nightmares, I mean Potent "you would piss yourself", Silent Hill stuff.
I once dreamt that I killed my family (kind of a cliché) whit a meat cleaver, I hunted them down one by one, cut their heads of and disemboweled them, all in great detail.
When i woke up i could swear there was this stench of blood reeking throughout my room, so heavily that the first thing i did when i woke up was to throw up and take the longest shower ive ever had.

I love my family and I would never do anything like that in real life, this scared the shit out of me.

Sorry for double, but lets not try to start shit.
Just report it, the button is right under his name under "Uploaded by", if we do leave 20+ comments on "his" song then were only giving him exposure and giving newgrounds a bad rep, we dont need that.

Seems fine.

Response to: Battlefield3 vs ModernWarfare3 guns Posted November 14th, 2011 in Audio

From a realism standpoint im gonna go with BF3, but from a gameplay standpoint im gona go with MW3, MW3 had a distinct difference in the gun sound and it could help players identify what gun is being shot.

HOWEVER, we all know that these two games are aiming for two different things, BF3 is aiming for realism and MW3 is going for the more "Game" feel.

Or just "Dub" in general, i've watched too many dub songs get trashed because "This isnt dubstep, fgt, where the wobble?" (seriously, I hate that)

Just try to pick out specific sounds and timing to the said sounds.

Yeah, I was hoping for something ala "That sound on the offbeat" inda thing, but shortly after posting i realized that was kinda stupid considering the nature of those types of percussion :)
Im thinking i might as well invest in a cheap mic and get some drums (they are apparently pretty cheap), but do you know any programs that would allow me to isolate those sounds? it could become helpful :)

Thanks for the cake, I tried to eat it but somehow was not easy, maybe it's a force-field or something...

Keep trying, sooner or later you'll get it :)

Response to: Transitions and stuff Posted November 9th, 2011 in Audio

Since you apparently make house music, building up the beat ad then slowing down as the new riff begins is generally a good idea, you could try muting some instrument tracks and let the instrument(s) that changes play a few bars too.

Keep in mind, I suck at this, but thats my two cents anyways.

Edit Your Audio Submissions and click the "edit" link for whichever song you want. Some songs are unable to be updated; however, I think they're only if you get one front paged.

It has to have less then 100 listens, less then (some number i forgot, possibly 20) downloads, and it cant have been used in any sort of a flash product (Animations, games e.t.c.).

Response to: Cheap Gear Thread Posted November 7th, 2011 in Audio

Most of my gear is the kind of stuff you'd find in a bargain bin, but here goes nothing:

M-audio Keystation 47: 124$ works fine, but i had to hold it together with ducktape due to some unfortunate events involving a screwdriver and a handfull of those small liquor bottels you get in giftbags.

Louder Bass (Bass guitar): 177$ works fine, it has some minor problems with the electronics.

M-Audio Guitar interface: I use this one as a sound-card, im not sure ho much it costs since i got it for free.
