Theres more to the "Needs to be an mp3", the mp3 is supposed to be sampled @ 44.1 khz, was the file you tried to upload this?

Pretty much everything in the Flash portal is made using a technique called "tweening", you probably should look into that.

You could use a filter if you are willing to loose major quality, or if they are "Clean" (no music at the same time) you could use Audacity to cut these parts out.
