I can't have it all in one scene with that one layer for the song because the size of the scene and file crashes eventually and it's impractical to have every actual scene be a movie clip. I must be missing something.
What is the way people make that work?
TLDR how do you stream a song across multiple scenes? One keyframe at the start with stream selected obviously ends with the scene.
Msg me or post ty bb <3
TLDR: looking for direct help making a custom flash-based Zelda RPG. As far as I know, we can't get paid for it at least directly, because of copywright. Only if you're simply curious about the project or willing to work for free will this post matter, but I am ignorant to the complexities of making money from these deals, maybe you know workarounds. I do this for fun and to be responsible for it once it rocks everyone's socks. By the way, while I do animations sometimes, I've created the Zone images. Lots and lots of Zone images, which you should see.
I have been delaying this post for over 5 years. I think it's finally time to look for help with this now that I feel comfortable with having enough of it finished by myself.
If you ever become interested in being a co-creator on this project or know a friend who might, I'd like to involve Skype: for any creative communicating/brainstorms we end up doing, also for people who want to see my artwork on shared screen before making their decision to become involved. (a nod to you, the skeptical masters not wanting to waste time) +chat about it /ask questions. Of course, ask me anything and everything in a comment, I can't wait and am prepared for harsh critisisms and advice.
Since I was 15 (seven years ago) I've been patiently hand-drawing and redrawing a unique Hyrule in Flash (Currently CS5.5) structured with intentions of becoming the best, or at least easily the biggest Zelda game online ever. It uses no textures and minimal pixel-based things. All rocks, land and everything else is so far Hand-drawn by me, just out of my head with use of references only for characters and places to ensure the player feels like they're in a Zelda game. I plan on finishing all the Zones soon, but there's so much room for help with other aspects of the game.
To give a scope of it, Hyrule Field is as big as the OOT version, and I have 55 FLA files containing pieces of the world. Although unplayable because I can't code it together, it's so much work that all I can say to people asking "why do you keep making this game?" is that I love it, and have long been oddly obsessed with its realization. I will see this project launch one day, no matter how long it takes. All parties involved are encouraged to be extremely patient. It's done when it's done, but as soon as even one other person gets onboard I tend to get so excited that my production goes way up.
Some items or quest items and the story arch for the decided villain Dark Link needs filling in /personal brainstorming. I'm aiming for a playthrough deeply personal from myself and hosting creative themes, concepts of light and dark, even insanity. I can only really explain that vocally. Knowing full-well the need for music to be Zelda music, this project hosts some music from other games, and cameos from other games as well. We're looking to have fun with this and make the player go "AAAH it's Dopefish!" or something like that.
Today, after mostly all of my progress is illustrations, I'm opening the doors to this game looking for:
Any Flash animators who want to create their own Toon-like Zelda-esque bosses. I'll help a lot with creating fun encounters, or you can make a scene entirely after we Skype about it so it fits in (30 fps, pencil tool 2.5-3 line thickness and a vivid palette, images of my work below)
1 skilled Actionscript3 game programmer capable of engineering a Gameboy-like Zelda RPG. Think Minish Cap. (I predict you may finish your side of this way faster than I will finish fiddling, that being the reason I hadn't gotten serious with making the game public until now. I don't want you to sit around waiting! but I will overdrive from here if I can find the right crew.)
1 cutscene artist, for story moments to remain consistent-looking. You can get really fancy if you want to shine, let's talk about what we both want to see. I may end up doing this.
1 sound effect manager. If you think this sounds silly, I understand, but my plate is beyond full. I worry about this but all that's really needed is the knowledge of where to get clean ripped Zelda sounds, and for someone, probably the coder, to whip through attaching them at some point. I hope to find a pal who actually enjoys the feeling of being in charge of the sound of Zelda. By the way, don't stress about filesize, but I hope to find someone skillful with compression. Ask me about that if we speak. (The sound manager is probably the coder, but I split them apart in case two people happen to work that way.)
Because we probably can't capitalize on our progress or sell the finished game(I'm not sure on that, but I can't pay you) we have the luxury of making it different and personal to each of us. I'm talking about cameo characters and not feeling deadlines or rigid game structure. All I mean is, if I want to put Gragas from LoL in his house in a zone, I will. If I want to put dopefish in, I will. Nobody is going to slap you for your design philosophy, we have big freedoms on this project... I encourage this, and am excited to get different views.
Okay, here are some images of random places to get you thinking. I know that it will probably lag on most systems, I don't care. Don't things run better off the computer if you download it? Maybe that will happen. Or I remember "Dad 'n Me" just increased the fps, I want input on this if anyone knows the rundown. I simply put my all into the detail, and if no one can play if full speed, we can discuss tricks or wait for systems to improve. Employ discretion with detail, but do not hold back anything. People want to see what you've got.

I tried to write this like I'm a professional, but I don't want to intimidate people. I'm just a dumb kid who started a game he couldn't finish alone. But I have a really good feeling about this.
Yes I'm looking for a programmer, but I'm also just kind of lonely about the whole project.. wanted to try to get it out there.
I'm one-manning a zelda game for flash, check it out on facebook. 6 years in the making
SOLVED, never had sticky keys on in my life or seen the message, but I turned it on and off and adjusted the settings for sticky keys (which I've never seen before either) and it reset the ctr key aswell. stupid windows
At 3/30/09 07:03 PM, Shinki wrote: That is really weird. Maybe it's a keyboard problem?
Holding space should give you a temporary hand tool, maybe your ctrl key is messing with the space bar? Spam the ctrl key in a text editor and see if anything happens?
Flash-wise I can't think of any reason why this would happen as you would have to create a new key mapping set (as the default set can't be modified) then change the key map. Which you obviously haven't done.
I tested the ctr in text just now and its fine plus every other program except flash is fine for it. Also I actually went into the mappings after the problem to try and map around it somehow, to no avail
What bugs me is that it just suddenly came back today out of the blue.
you saying ctrl is supposed to be the default button for hand ? I though it was "h". and this sticky keys business seems promising, could you tell me how to turn them off or mess around with that please?
Every time I trigger Ctrl key for Ctrl-Z and Ctr-2 which I do like 10 times a minute, or just ctrl for no reason, it fucking becomes the hand tool icon and behaves like the hand tool, even though the toolbox stays on for example brush. I have to click something else then go back to brush for it to be useable again. I had this problem a month a go and I reinstalled flash which fixed it, but now it's just randomly back. I haven't done weird or obvious and it's starting to piss me off.
Does anyone else have this bug where the hand tool likes to take over ctrl? Or know anything at all? all input is highly appreciated.
btw I use CS3

it's the best one, not when its loading, but immediately after. the newgrounds logo slides in yellow from the top left kinda glowy and then shifts left to right, then shakes up and down and it looks awesome. couldn't find it in the preloaders DL section, or at least where I'm looking:

halp!

guess it is a bug :(
bump
I need to fix this
I am putting sounds in as usual, not a stranger to that.. but flash cuts out the first second of each sound, in the testplay and in exporting. Is this a bug or wth? all music is missing the first beat.
How do I reduce the quality of gradients, I don't need them to be super smooth and I want to reduce filesize when exporting. Please help
Simple question, probably not so simple answer:
How do I stream one music file track over multiple scenes? The first scene works, but I would need to drag the track back into the layers for scene 2, and it just starts over if set stream. So how do I set it to stream to the whole movie, or whatever?
please help
Hi, guys, I saw this while I was scrolling through the forum, and I thought I'd stop in to say hi. In case you don't know, I did the SSB:Brawl original. It came out long before the game (they stole the name><(too bad I can't copyright their name)). Anywho, good luck with this project.
I'm working on Brawl 2 right now(see my page). Maybe we can do a simultaneous release? ;)
shameless bump. Anyone know??
uhm, I used to know how to set it so gradient quality is lowered for exporting, to reduce lag/size. I imagine its in export options somewhere, but I can't find that option anywhere. I use a lot of gradients and I'd like to tone them way down in quality.

This is the big one. The one that's totally hand-drawn, with about a dozen bosses, mini-games, and original content(don't get me wrong, that just means some bosses and areas). A full-sized world map, full of NG and other Easter Eggs, TLoZ: RoDL is going to be the #1 game on Newgrounds.
Zelda: Return of Dark Link is a project that I haven't touched in at least a year. There's also at least a year's worth of planning, animations, level designs and other bits already TOTALLY finished, but there's a lot left to be done on the coding side.
RoDL was a collaborative effort between me(Danny, 17) and my friend 'GSD'(also 17). I drew everything and he coded everything. We had it going for a while but then he decided drugs were more important than life so.. I was left with half a game I would L O V E to see finished.
so, here's a link to a test ground area for the game...bear in mind you'd probably have to recode the whole thing to your liking, and I have about 3 dozen more level files and animations ready to send you if you're down with coding this. I know like ...almost nothing about actionscript, but I have everything it takes to design this whole thing.
It's an entire world(as you can see on the map, even more than that actually) that's roughly half the size of a real Zelda console game. I have outlines, checklists and full plot summaries with layouts for every detail in the game--all I need is to find someone else willing to go through it and make it work.

About me: I'm Danny R, I live in BC Canada, and im 17 atm. Im graduating this spring and taking the following year off to save cash from a job/sit on my ass at home, so I'll have ample time if that's a concern. I'm no stranger to flash, and if you want more example of my work you should check out BoA:4, which I did over the net with Grant Cerulo:

I also did Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but that's WAY outdated. That was one of my first.
Interested??? plz?? :)
also check out the preloader I did for RoDL, with cycling day and night(super-spiffy)

hey there's a preloader? preloaders are my favorite part to make. oh well.
I'm gonna make a Ness vs. Game and Watch scene. gurplaw!
At 11/25/06 12:48 AM, spare-jello wrote: Sure man... wow. Youre ssb movie was awesome.
Anyway, what you need to do is this- Choose any 2 characters not in use (I posted a list somewhere back) to use. One will be a hero, the other a guard. The hero will Be in both parts, the guard in one.
Part 1- The hero verses the guard. You can do ANYTHING with this, but the Hero has to win
Part 2- The hero vs a hero clone. They have to be recognizable, as in which is real and which isnt. The Hero should win in this one, too.
That's really all you need to know... the rest is in the first post.
So it's just a jumble of movies made by people who like SSB put together in succesion? mmmm... mm... . I'll think about it, I don't wanna dedicate myself to the project if I think I won't get it done. Has anyone completed their part yet or a preview?
Hehe...sup. if you don't remember or don't care like I certainly wouldn't, I made SSB:brawl. it was gross, but hey at least you know I couldn't do any worse than that. If you help me to understand what a "hero" is, and what a "hero clone" is, and what exactly kind of collab is this, I'll probably do a thinger.
