Why assume it's Spanish? "La" is also a French word for "the", further still, "la" is a feminine version of "the" ("le" is the male one).

Well, La just tends to be known as Spanish in many American regions, that's why. But where you are gendo, La is used as french because Canada is very french[some places at least].
